What Did You Do With Your Rover Today?

Put on a fresh new bumper. It’s the same bumper as my old one, but not all twisted up. It’s a TerraFirma brand, which I generally hate, but I like the look of it and a side effect of all their stuff being cheap crap, it’s pretty light. I generally don’t hit stuff with my front bumper so the weight is more important than strength. My old one got twisted from the tire catching it, not hitting stuff. I trimmed this to avoid any tire issues, so hopefully this stays straight.

So did some web wrench working, new shocks for the RRC and shock towers( ugh wasn't what I was looking forward to).

Also finally remembered to order parking brake for the LR4 as that failed a month ago.

So shortly I'll have some projects to finish.

During the last Bowman Lake run my tire carrier finally gave up. It was modified to fit a larger spare and had some weak points that tore and bent.

So I purchased this heavy duty one from Devon 4x4 that was supposed to accommodate large tires. It wasn’t that close to being high enough. I didn’t want to chop up this new tire carrier, especially since I need it uncompromised as far as strength goes since my spare isn’t light and I often have weight in a trash atop as well. So I decided to modify the bumper instead.

I cut a hole that would fit the bottom of the tire

Filled it in with pieces of metal

Painted it and voila, no more problems!

So freshen up the beadlocks with some paint and installed the apex valve stems.

All the new parts arrived so it’s time to finish off the RRC and get it on the trail soon!

New truck cab roof restoration project complete! Have to say, that was more of a pain in the ass than I anticipated. Next stop, cage.

Why aren’t you signed up for the Rovicon?

The event shows as “sold out†so I’ll keep an eye out for another ride to participate in. I’m excited to get out there!

Have fun!

That’s a mistake. There are 6 more driver spots left. I will have Miles or somebody fix it. No wonder we haven’t gotten any sign ups for several days

  • 3 weeks later...

So catching up from Sunday, was able to make a final visitation to Rrc with the new socks and shock towers.

I got those installed with help from Don and Guatav!

One additional thing was trouble shooting why my turn signals were shorting. Seems a post I read on the turn signal switch did the trick and Don's parts car come through again for the win.

Some finishing reassemble and it finally made it home and is ready for the trail again.

Now to see if we can mount the beadlocks in time for hellhole.

And maybe a cosmetic change?

Not exactly a hard core project but when I was a little kid a friend of ours had an Australian built series and it had the Australian land rover badge and I always thought it was the coolest thing ever. Many years later I finally found one and put it in place of the solihull England badge on mine. Yes a purists might vomit at that thought but my whole 88 is a rover abomination so damn the crowd I love it.

That's fascinating! Guessing as they were assembled in OZ they did that... really cool!

Andrew came by and we played with his new Karnage Trail Welder. Really cool setup that is self contained with its own battery pack. I was impressed with the consistency of the arc considering we ran it off the self contained battery.

  • 3 weeks later...

Finally got around to getting the steering box for 404 Not Found cleaned up.

Snagged it from a pick n pull month ago and it's been on the bench waiting to be cleaned...

And now, there are more pressing matters to be on the bench !!! So clean it has become.

And now back into a bucket until I have time to install.

So funny,  I had to order my second steering box today as the one I bought from parts geek just busted up on me.

Ideally it arrives next week and I'm back putting miles on it by the 4th of July.

Yikes! I just go out and try to find a not-so leaky good used one. I figure it is going to leak on me any way! ; )

A little late but better then never, we spent Father's day playing with my dads ambulance and got it out on a test drive around the neighborhood. There's still boat loads to do but it gets the fire going again to finish it up,I supposeit's never really finished though is it.post-1380-0-19478200-1624572669_thumb.jpg
