    Hello Land Rover People!
We are thrilled to announce that the club will be hosting the Third Annual Overland Event in 2024.
    _____
    2024 Overland Event Location:
For 2024, we plan on traversing Segments 3 & 4 of the Eastern Mojave Heritage Trail in Southern California. The route will start near Ludlow and conclude in Needles, CA covering approximately 350 miles. This route is far more remote than those experienced on Segments 1 &2 we traveled in 2022.
The trip highlights are many including petroglyphs, old tank tracks, local history, mines, sprawling scrublands, and of course, incredible desert camping opportunities galore!
Dates and Itinerary:  May 11th - May 19th
May 11th - Transit Day to Aiken Cinder Mine May 12th - Trail Day 1: Aiken Cinder Mine to Mailbox 3 May 13th - Trail Day 2: Mailbox 3 to Granite Pass May 14th - Trail Day 3: Granite Pass to Hole in the Wall May 15th - Trail Day 4: Hole in the Wall to Lieser Ray Mine May 16th - Trail Day 5: Lieser Ray Mine to Raiders of the Lost Arch May 17th - Trail Day 6: Lost Arch to Eagle Pass May 18th - Transit Day: Eagle Pass to Needles to Home May 19th - "Situation" Buffer and Optional Transit Day As always our pace will depend on a variety of factors including road conditions, speed, interest in stops, etc. Please check back as the itinerary is being put together.
    Registration:
Cost per driver is $65, $30 per Passenger Members will get a discount and get first grabs at the open slots before we open this to the public. The registration fees will go towards T-shirts, patches and other goodies - we aim to make this a break even event. Registration is LIVE! --> https://forum.norcalrovers.org/store/ Registration will be limited to 15 vehicles in order to maintain a manageable event. Difficulty & Vehicle Requirements:
Stock vehicles are certainly welcome and will likely have no issues on the trail. While the trail is certainly not easy in all places, I expect we can get everyone through without major difficulty.
Adventure trailers are welcome, but expect hitch dragging and tight quarter maneuvering.
    Things to expect:
Pinstripes are 100% going to happen. Divorce yourself from your paint now. There are many steep drops and rises in and out of washes, depending on what this year's winter brings, the roads could be fine, or a washed out disaster. Vehicles that have low profile front and rear bumpers may see scuffing/contact. Minimum Vehicle Requirements
Mechanically Sound Rover (as best as they are) Working E-Brake/Parking Brake 30" tires including full-size spare Recovery Points front and rear Center Differential Lock (CDL) (or other modern equivalent) Minimum Gear Requirements:

well not as bad as I first though, found fitting going to the steering box from the power steering fluid reservoir loose.  I woulda swore it was tight when I put in the new box.

Yeah, unfortunately I'm not sure I can make it either.  I believe the power steering pump gave up on me this morning on the way to work in the D1 and the LR3 is giving me transmission faults...☹️

I’ve taken a little break from the restomod while I travel for work. I’ve been lucky enough to work on a project in my home town of Melbourne, Australia.

While here, I visited Les Richmond Automotive (@lesrichmondautomotive on IG).  The business owner, Andrew, showed me around a few of their current projects. They specialise in LS conversions to Land Rovers, from old classics, Defenders and Disco 1 and 2s. They also do interior and exterior work in house.   The quality of their work is inspiring.

Some more work...got the passenger side rear wheel wells cut to match the drivers side.

Finished up doing some mock up on the front fenders.

Next I'll pull the rear tub off and clean it then paint it and clean the rear frame up and paint it.

So couple days of work caught up in one post...

Removed the tub, started scraping the tub so I can get it set up for paint...

Then began grinding the frame clean. Hadley my daughter found it funny being covered in rust dust lol.

Really love KOH...had that on as I finished up some frame prep and then a coat of Rust-Oleum.

It will likely come in areas for more fab but good to get it cleaned too.

Got back on the project today, gorgeous weather too.

Tackled the rear passenger side brakes.

Removed the drum and got the disc brakes on.

Forgot where I put the disc .

    So I'll finalize that later.

Finally pulled trigger on flywheel and clutch too!

I just booked a cabin at Sun Outdoors for April 5th-8th, and definitely considering heading to SCARR after that. Is anyone else up for the Texas run?

Planning on taking the northern route to experience Middlegate Station again, and to get some more of that hot sauce.

@SDS came over on Friday and we welded up his front diff guard for the D2.

Then on Saturday after working on rebuilding the water tank roof, @yokrieger used the D1 to pull the skidsteer; acting as added horsepower and ballast as we pulled fallen trees up the mountainside for firewood processing.

    Wow! Bravo! Nicely done Robert!
The progress is looking great. I love the home brew machine shop.

Also... I think you may now have as many vice grips as a body shop.

Still debating on dropping the LS3 vs. 4.2L into Snowflake when the time comes. One the on side, I've been a fan of the LS3, on the other hand, there is a fully rebuilt 4.2L ready to go in the donor truck...
Of course, watching along intently as this is turning out to be a good guide for the future!

Trip was fantastic...! So sorry to hear that Lutzi's trip this coming weekend is cancelled, I would go again if I could justify the time off, but either way I would be looking at divorce and most likely homelessness...!
We will be creating a photo dump for all to see -- so stay tuned. Meantime, here are a few nuggets.
