What Did You Do With Your Rover Today?

Today on the 110 got a bit more progress on installing the new fuel lines. Almost halfway to engine bay now!

Yesterday the Classic got an alignment courtesy of Theresa driving it in :)

Over the 4th of July weekend did roughly 300+ miles of dirt and rough old tracks in Mendocino with Yokrieger. Basically had the forest to ourselves!

Lots of roads washed out. So many new pinstripes on Snowflake!

Heyall,

I'm replacing the upper front arms on the LR3 and have been looking around for the parts and prices vary significantly from place to place, Lucky 8 has them for $70 (Allmakes)  to $199 and British Pacific has them for $95 for OEM to $134 with semi hard bushings...what do you all suggest? I def don't want the cheap ones (from certain large country in Asia.

TIA for your suggestions

Having changed many bushes on my L322 and had some subsequent failures, I will usually aim for original LR. If the price is prohibitive, next on the list are the OE suppliers Lemforder (ZF), Delphi etc. LRParts is often the cheapest if you can wait for delivery from the UK.

I challenge anyone to beat the prices we have genuine LR for ... last set though!  One even comes in a box!

I have no respect for you at all if you didn't build a Camel Trophy style bridge over that washout.

Alas, we did not bring the PSPs... and I respect the road closed sign the Forest Service put up... had it not been there...

Shenanigans surely would have ensued.

  • 1 month later...

Did a few things today to prep for the Dusy/random Snowflake shenanigans

1. Picked up the roof rack from powder coat

2. Cursed at the roof rack for not fitting properly in the gutters

3. Cursed at the previous owner for the flimsy little mounting hardware

4. Cursed at the government for potho....  Picked up a bunch of paint for the roof rack

5. Got home and watched the UPS guy roll my tires up the drive :)

6. Modified the tire swing gate to accept a 33inch tire

7. Cleared front diff breather

8. And threw the new spare on the roof to go to work to get swapped on the tire machine. :)

Now all that is left is - Steering Link upgrades, oil change, replace front diff fluid, trail camera install, and then I can finally think about the 110 again!

Looks great will keep the trees from attacking your roof on the Dusy :) .

Now only to get better roof rack mounts so I don't end up donating the rack to the trees!!!!

First wash/wax in 3+ years.

And it shines!

Lookin good. How is the Esab performing?

Really happy with it so far. Really like the easy auto feature of the smig. Keeps its simple for novice welders like myself. I haven’t done much and only on 1/4”, but so far the arc is really consistent and clean. The cabinet and controls are really nice too. Feel free to come by and play with it

Nice next time I need something welded I may take you up on the offer. Borrowed Robert's this past weekend and it has ignited a past love.

Today:

  1. Tested an 11 year old rover battery - PASS. I credit it's good health to Enrique :)
  2. Started packing the truck and charging the handhelds.
  3. Decided that maybe I should fix the steering wheel... because that ain't right...

And yes the wheels are pointed straight...

So much has gotten done today! We had man guest stars as well!

I started the day off by replacing the rear taillight broken on the Dusy - I had already replaced the mirror on Tuesday.

Then I started un-boxing the new Rovertyme rear links.

IMG_20190921_092055.jpg

By the time I started to get moving on those, Scott showed up with his Classic LWB to undergo a 2" lift install.

IMG_20190921_181310.jpg

Later in the day Johann, Cris, Matthew, and Serge showed up as well. (Matthew's Dodge Dart is coming along very nicely, if you haven't seen it already it must be checked out!)

All was uneventful. Once the new links were in, I tore down and replaced the fuel rail on Snowflake. Seemed like it would be a pain to do, but in the end was pretty simple.

Overall, I am really happy with the links, though I wish I had been able to have the option to adjust them further back later on. But alas, I have but 1" of thread engaged as it sits today and I'd prefer no less. It pushed the axle roughly back to where I wanted it.

And if anyone is wondering if there is any Buick DNA left in the Rover V8... there sure is, found a smattering of standard bolts in there...

It’s been a busy week working on DiscoStu over the last few days.

The sliders have been wire brushed and coated in clear coat to match the front and rear bumpers. (I’ll do a tech write up with the details shortly.)

Refitted the front radiator air guide which fitted perfectly above the steering shield. I expect that this should help direct cool air into the lower radiator and avoid hot air recirculating back under the radiator.

Note the extra front bumper bracing to the diagonal gussets.

Also fitted the ARB compressor and ran air lines to the pair of lockers.

Following the successful headliner replacement on Stu, I decided to remove the headliner in the L322. For reference, the last few screws around the sunroof require removal of the sunroof sunshade and glass. This is a bit of a pain if you have a RTT and platform roof rack.

  • 2 months later...

I have a hard time believing no one has touched their rover since September...

I myself just haven't had time to post.

A few things done:

  • 110 Oil cooler cleaned and BSP bungs cut off and welded new NPT fittings on - work done by San Jose Radiator - dudes are old school pros.
  • Patched rust and re-furbed the 110 battery box.
  • As I watched the paint dry on the battery box, I decided I am cutting it all out for a new idea.
  • Built up the front end of the 110. Time for some fiberglass fan shroud building.

Looked at the classic and wondered if it misses me yet.

I swapped out my panhard bushings. I was hoping they would have been more thrashed than they were. Trying to cut down or eliminate my wobble at around 35 mph. Knuckle ball joints are next on the list
