  1. Just a little heads up,  Robert has graciously accepted my request to run the event this year.

I'm really bummed as I really enjoy this one, however, I've come down with an illness and it's best for me to stay at sea level.

I'm looking forward to hearing the stories, a little bummed it looks like a dirt road adventure vs a snowy one.

I had already purchased a tree permit so if you haven't yet let me know and I'll email you mine or if you want a second tree.

    Cheers!

  2. I caught up on the episodes during my drive to Utah for Thanksgiving.

Loved the discussion around projects and likely hood to be completely!!

BTW, I am getting things done on my project...did appreciate the help from a friend to learn how to start welding and some basic instructions on fabrication.

Now I'm onto balancing free time for projects and saving money for the next round of parts.

It was fun to hear myself on the air. The call in function sounds great though...some options there for you to bring on other guest.

Looking forward to the next episode on my way home...

  3. Been a minute since I've sat down to catch up on the progress...or maybe lack of?

I did take the panels back off and then pulled the transfer case off which required more effort than I remember installing.

I also tack-welded a bracket from the cross member to support the Transfer case.  So now I need to make that more permanent in the coming weeks.

Transfercase is off to Scully Offroad to be rebuilt and add the 1:1 high range plus maybe some additional enhancements.

I've been researching clutch setups, learning a lot, and also not learning LOL.    I was going to pursue the Advanced adapter kit but it's set up for the mechanical linkage. So now back to the beginning of lucking at hydraulic throughout kits as I need the space for the exhaust system.

So this work got me a little bummed out and work got busy with budget season so it sat for a few months.

Fast forward to November, I have found time to knock a couple of projects out.

Worked on the grill removing the radiator support pieces, need this to create more space for a larger radiator.  It was a little more challenging than I thought it would be but some cut-off wheel and body weight finally gave way.

I also did the oil cooler delete as I don't I'll need the space for the headers is needed.

Next up looking to finish grinding the frame smooth on the parts we cut off.

I also need to remove an exhaust bolt that broke off in the head.  Then I can move to secure the new headers permanently.

I'll be removing the engine to get access to the frame, so ideally I'll get the clutch figured out and assemble it all together on the ground before installing it back.

From there I'll finish some clean-up grinding on the bulkhead, then plan to get it media blasted and then paint.

From there I can start to build the truck more permanently, looking forward to that!

  4. Man, it's been too long since I made time to work on anything!

But couple projects knocked out... always takes more time than you think .

First was removing the oil cooler lines from the LS and placing a cap over it.

Gives more room for exhaust so that's good.

Next was the front grill, removing the old radiator support pieces so I will have room for a new larger radiator.

  5. It's time of the year to plan our Xmas tree run!

Planning for Saturday, December 2nd,  the tree permits go on sale 11/7 and can sell out quickly.

We'll be in the Truckee River corridor again this year as last year went really well.

Here's the link to secure a permit.

    https://www.recreation.gov/tree-permits/b2ce4e36-ebd2-11ea-b83f-6e0e43d29f74

The plan is to meet in Truckee at the Donner Creek Brewing Company,  they open around 11 AM.

Thinking we'll head out to trailhead around 1 p.m. and it's just a mile down the road to the area.

Here's the link to the tree-cutting area.

Now the roads go back for a ways and drops you back out onto the 89,  we'll see how many people feel like exploring up the road.

For the most part, it's used at this time to access the cutting areas, but it is an unplowed forest service road.

It's the mountain side so the kids had lots of run sledding down the hills and expect more of the same if we have snow.

  6. I plan to head out Thursday afternoon. Not later than 4 (hopefully), maybe earlier.
Will probably get to camping site after dark.  Will follow Lutz’s trail map.
Do I need to do any registration at Loon trailhead, or just drive to camp?

I shared maps from prior years on exact location.

Nothing to reserve, we'll keep an eye out for your headlights.
