  1. We spent the day getting closer to the finish line on the motor swap on my dads 109 ambulance and we fitted the pto winch. Turns out if your running military air lift bumpers you have to modify the winch mount alot. Then we turned our wrenches on my new to me 88, it hasn't ran since 1989 but with a little love we got it fired off and surprised it runs pretty well and doesn't smoke so mabey its a keeper after all. My driveway is starting to get a bit hectic now but their like my children I can't sleep well at night if they are parked to far away.

  2. Not to go off topic because I love to talk about the next generation and the need for land rovers, but unfortunately our good friends grandmother passed away last week and they are headed to the funeral this weekend which unfortunately for us leaves us house/animal sitting. So we will miss out on another adventure with everyone im jealous and with any luck won't miss the next one.
  3. I can second this thought, another skill to add to the list is on the spot resourcefulness. When I was 16 I was in the boy scouts but due to work I had to meet my troop at camp late Friday night and on the way my 88 decided it would be the perfect moment to not know how to idle and to make the starter give up. So there I was at the gas station in my boy scout uniform having to put a rock on the gas pedal so it would run then crank start the truck and run around and pull the rock off the gas so it wouldn't blow up while then climbing in and feathering the gas so it wouldn't die. You never get the chance to learn such skills when in a Toyota.
  4. Planning to get up there a few days early to prerun a few trails be for the event .Going to tow the 110 up with the ford . Haven't decided if im going to put the camper on it or rent something.

if were up there early as well and you dont mind we would love to join you on a couple pre runs, i promise to try and not be too big a pain on the trail.

  5. The other place we were gonna look into was moab rim camp park. We have stayed there alot, just about every time we go to moab, they have nice tent spots and showers and are dog/working on your broken truck friendly. As it gets closer if anyone wants to coordinate some sort of togetherness were in for sure. Plus if anyone wants to do some more primitive camping in the area were up for that as well honestly any time spent in moab is time well spent.
  6. Julia and I are still signed up as well i think we are planning to get to moab on the 11th and roll home on the 19th. Still not exactly sure where we are gonna stay but we talked about renting a house for the week so if we do im sure there is room for others to stay with us and I think my folks are planning to head there too.
  7. A friend of a friend had a friend who’s wife was fed up with the broke down cars in her yard, lucky for me my better half is ok with my horrible rover addiction. So over the weekend I was followed home by this little gem. She is definitely worse looking up close and the rats have chewed up the spark plug wires so the big question is does it become a parts bin then off to the scrap yard or get it going and see how many cheap mods can be thrown at it then see just how far the little Range Rover can be pushed up the trail. Any thoughts on which way to go? I’m open to other fun plans with it as well.

  8. Great write up don it’s fun to read about some of the adventures of the other groups. One story to add on, once we got down to the staging area we began to air up and check over our 88 and see how unroadworthy it was, we said our goodbyes and headed up highway 89. We were on a sea of emotions happy we were going home to a shower but sad our time on the trail was over that’s when we came across Zach and his Cummins 88 on the side of the road just at the base of the hill up to emerald bay. The fuel filter had rattled apart over the trail and drained his fuel down to empty. We decided to strap it to the next fuel station so we stopped Tahoe traffic got hooked up and began to head up the hill. My series 2a 88 is definitely not a power house and Zacks 88 is a big heavy girl so we were a sight, 2 beat up rovers going way to slow up a road that I get nervous on just running by myself let alone with another truck strapped to me. But we’re series owners so with our never say die attitude we made it to the junction oh highway 50 and pulled into a gas station. We fueled up and proceeded to crack injection lines to get the truck fired up, at that point a guy in a mask not so politely warned us we were leaking fuel and with that dose of reality we parted ways to head back to “normal†life. Once again I can’t thank everyone involved in planning this trip enough, iv been on that trail dozens of times but I can say this was one of the best times iv had on the trail and as long as the event goes on and we are welcome to come we will be there.

Got the rest of the shaft out of the diff. There was no magnet that was pulling this sucker out. Needed to weld a little stick to it and pull / pry it out. About as twisted as you’ll see them get

That’s an impressive break how’s the open diff working? Any bad gear noise on the drive home?
