I was lucky enough to draw a deer tag this year and in tradition we took the lr3 out scouting over the weekend. We did about 250 miles off road explored some abandoned ranches and mines. Soaked in a hot spring, found probably the nicest middle of no where camp site iv seen, and happily found some deer. To my delight the high milage worn out lr3 did great and I must admit I'm softening up a bit because I'd almost prefer it over the old series truck.
And while having a few beers at middle gate station we found some evidence of others coming through stapled to the wall.

Here's a fun history photo if your board. From left to right a 1967 early 2a, a 1969 "bug eye", and a 1969 late 2a. Pretty much the moment rover went to lights on the fenders thanks to the USA. I figure this will probably be my only moment I'll have all 3 in my driveway so dance while the suns out I suppose.

In preparation for rovicon and the never ending desire for more storage in an 88 I started looking at the Exmoor trim door storage cards. But finding they will cost me my first born and block my tootsie vents I went looking for a work around, and found some 20 doller Kelty seat storage thingys. Some drilling later and they more or less fit the bill.

I ment to post this last night but got wound up in finding the best prime deal and failed to hit post. But a few coins put in the way back machine gets us here, this was one of the first camping trips Julia and I took together. I drove through the puddle and thought that would be a cool picture and made her get out in the mud as I drove through again.

My dad wanted to be an old man and go to the car show so I carted his 88 down and he took his ambulance. In the end the ambulance took best in show in the 4x4 division, granted it was us 2 old jeeps and a d90 in the running so a hollow victory but a trophy none the less.

All in all I have to say a very good run and credit where it's due my hats off to Gustav for leading us through and being the bar tender. Aside from a rock reaching out and unlocking my hub by some magic trick. We didn't have any break downs or issues. Traffic through the trail was light which let us have a fantastic lunch at alpine lake. Then at camp we got lazy at the river with adult beverages and rover building dreams. A fun run with fun people and sorry to everyone who had to eat with my dog wanting to be uncomfortably close.

Well official screw ball of the trip award needs to go to me because I took dozens of what I'm sure were national geographic level photos but happened to not put a memory card in the camera. So I got exactly 1 picture from the trip when I went through a sand storm on the way home. For your viewing pleasure is some dust and my spare tire.

Very cool no surprise you guys made it without any drama makes me wonder if you two were the first rovers through it for the 2022 year. That and many other random questions are what plague my mind a 2am. I can't wait to see pictures and stories from the trip wish I could have gone with you two.

I am woefully unprepared but hell or high water we'll be there. I should be off around 6 and probably to camp around 9 so if you hear some poor soul lost in the woods come find me please.

I'm made good use of my club membership so far this year and missed every event so my summers resolution is to stop that. So I'm planning to make this one I probably won't make it up till Friday evening but depending on Julia's work schedule I may have an open seat. Once she finds out for certain I'll post if it's open or not. Its an extremely uncomfortable ride but we can get some pith helmets and have the uncomfortable safari look.

My hell work schedule means no week day fun for me. but I will be hading in the weekend before then so if you see me half way through the trail please let me hitch a ride out because that means something went not so well. And cantina for the con is that weekend as well but by Monday I think most of the riff raff will be on the other end of the trail.

Looks like a great time sad I missed out. And I'm starting to think an Eric fishing tradition is burying the truck to the frame.

I was really hoping to make it out there but work is once again being inconvenient as usual. I want to see pictures of the Tahoe stuck like your d2 at hell hole last year.

I'm heart broken to say but Julia and I had some soar throats yesterday so on the side of caution we took the big test and unfortunately the Mattson family is part of the numbers now. So rather then causing the super spread we will have to miss this one. We're definitely bummed as can be and will probably go camp in the back yard with all of Coopers toy rovers and pretend we're up there. I wish we could go but I hope everyone has a great trip and get stuck a couple of times for me.

It was so I suspected it was when you guys ran through on the way to moab. Even though you know how it got there it's still fun to see.
