  2. I thinks is just rare to see a stock height Disco. The tyres may be larger than stock which tends to fill the guards.
  3. There is talk of also doing the Mattley Ridge trail. Since we would be camping at Corral Hollow, the Mattley Ridge run would need to happen before entering Corral Hollow. I guess we will make final plans at the meeting point at Camp Connell at 10 am on Saturday
  4. 5. I am booked to stay at Canyonlands RV Resort and Campground from Sunday 12th to Friday 17th (5 nights). It is a basic cabin that sleeps four in two pairs of bunk beds. I am currently by myself and would be happy to share the accomodation. I did try to extend the booking by another night, but they are now fully booked. I will probably leave Saturday morning from South Bay and be travelling at a leisurely pace. I am not sure which route I will take or where I might stay en route. Alternatively, I might leave Friday afternoon and try to make it to Reno to meet up with Rupert on Saturday morning. I plan to leave Moab on Friday afternoon and return Saturday or Sunday to the Bay Area. The accomodation is quite central in Moab on the main ‘strip’: Canyonlands RV Resort & Campground, a Sun RV Resort 555 S Main Street | Moab, UT 84532 Phone: (435) 259-6848 | Fax: (435) 259-6844
  6. If you are close to Cupertino, I also plan to leave at 7. Note that my D2 is only happy to a max speed of 65 mph and so you will have to be comfortable at a leisurely pace. Text me to organize a meeting point 4086370426 Make sure you have a radio tuned to 146.460. If you don’t have one, buy the cheapest Baofeng ham radio you can get on Amazon and I will show you how to set it up when we meet. For example Baofeng UV-5R Two Way Radio Dual Band 144-148/420-450Mhz Walkie Talkie 1800mAh Li-ion Battery(Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074XPB313/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_VRHTPD7EJV56DY62BY20
  7. I plan to drive up from South Bay on Saturday morning.
  8. I plan to attend. Corral Hollow is one of my favourite places to camp. Yes, it’s near Bear Valley. Check out my friend’s D1 in this picture.
  9. Yes definitely. We will need to figure out the travel arrangements to the event since I will go up earlier for a wedding at Tahoe. I’ll have room for the trail run.
  10. I think we will come up for the day on Sunday. Count us in for three or four for Sunday lunch and let us know what we can bring.
  11. Great write up Eric! I have just added 115 photos and videos to the album. Here are some teasers.
  12. Here’s a link to Gaia route for this trail recorded last year. You can tell from a couple of places where I walked back and forth with my phone in my pocket where we stopped for tough challenges. https://www.gaiagps.com/public/6uvYXNsezufqgoeT5NHvLylP And the GPX file Hellhole_resevoir.gpx And for reference it took us seven hours or so to do the trail last year and over eight the year before. This includes spending some good time down at the lake.
  13. I plan to leave South Bay around 6 am for the 4+ hour trip to the staging area. If you guys have started by then, I will catch you on the trail. At this time, I’m planning on camping at the bottom of the trail along the lake (effectively half way for this in and out trail) with the option of returning with the group if the campsite are not suitable or occupied.
  14. Nick and I are considering dispersed camping at the bottom of the trail along the lake shore. This is the half way point for the in-and-out trail. At worst, we can always return as originally planned and find camping elsewhere. A gentle reminder for those who have not done this trail before - this is a very tough but rewarding trail. I would suggest that there are sections that are at least as tough as the worst you would see on the Rubicon. I would not recommend anything other than a reasonably prepared trail truck. I have attempted this in my L322 two (??) years ago and only got through the easy first fraction of the trail before I had to park and walk the rest of the way. I still sustained lots of wheel and tyre damage. There are very few places to pass, park or even turn around. For the built up trucks, there is still a good chance of scratches or panel damage. There is one very tight spot that challenges the big butts of D2s and all three D2s, including mine, sustained some damage last year. There is a small section of water fording that may be shallow or deep. Last year I didn’t have a snorkel and was lucky the water level didn’t go any deeper than mid headlight (~3’). I am better prepared this year with a snorkel and sealed intake system. I don’t want to scare anyone off. This trail is one of my favourites. Just remember that you can always jump in another vehicle or walk the beautiful trail if it gets a bit tough.
  15. Hi Rupert, I have booked a cabin (2x2 bunk beds) at Canyonlands RV Park. The total cost for five nights (Sept 12-17) is $577. At this stage, I will be travelling solo and the other beds are available to share the cost. Let me know if you would like to share. Robert
  16. Usually 146.460 and sometimes 146.550 as the alternative.
  17. I have a 2000 MY 996 that I sort of inherited / bought cheaply from a friend that returned to Australia at the start of the pandemic. It’s a nice daily driver now.
  18. If you are really keen, you could consider changing the diff gears to a much shorter (numerically higher) ratio and then the TF high ratio to a taller (numerically lower) ratio. This would produce a greater spread of ratios between the high and low ranges, improving the crawling ability. I was planning to use 4.73 diff ratio and then change the high range gears to ~1:1 ratio. This would have provided similar effective high range ratios as stock (for my 35s) but improved low range crawling ratio Unfortunately, GBR delivered 4.11 gears and so I decided to live with these rather than wait a potential eternity for another set. My transfer case has remained stock. I have found the performance with 4.11 gears to be fine both on and off road for my 35s.
  19. I have just booked a cabin (2x2 bunk beds) at Canyonlands RV Park. The total cost for five nights (Sept 12-17) was $577. They have one more similar cabin available. Camp sites are $44+. Cancellation is free if cancelled over 7 days prior.
  20. A great relaxing trip. Thanks for showing us one of your favourite campsites, Eric.
  21. Jason and I will drive up Saturday and meet at Esparto at 11. Happy to convoy from South Bay. Sina (white D1 that joined us for our first Hellhole trip) plans to join us on Saturday at the campsite.
  22. Eric has definitely upped the ante in the D2 underbody colouring stakes. I repainted all of my axle parts gloss black which makes it easy to do touch ups. I will have to do better next time.
