June 9-11 MORG at Hell Hole
RobertDingli replied to Elherbinator's topic in NCLR Scheduled Trips and Event Information
I will be heading up Saturday morning and will head straight to the trailhead. I may not be there in time for the start of the trail run and may not run the trail myself. I’ll head down the trail and park somewhere and catch you guys on foot. I wasn’t able to book a site for Saturday night and will squeeze in somewhere. -

I didn’t notice this. I was also assuming the 13th from the calendar. I could probably make both dates. -

I’m hoping to attend. This trip is definitely a scenic highlight of the year. Camping overnight is recommended to see the amazing sunset. Edit - note this is a photo from Corral Hollow, which was the original target trail. I hope we can run this later in the year -

April MORG - Bowman Lake
RobertDingli replied to Elherbinator's topic in NCLR Scheduled Trips and Event Information
Thanks to all who joined and made this a memorable trip. We certainly had our work cut out winching, towing and digging our way through the soft surface. There was about 12-18” of fresh snow over an icy base layer or 2-3’ thickness. Four trucks (two D2s and two Defenders) is actually a good number to have in a single convoy for these difficult trails. We had a fifth (RRC) on the first day up until about 3pm. There were spots where most or all of us needed some kind of assistance. At times the heavier, big wheeled D2s plowed through and other times they just sank. Whenever the call went out that someone was stuck, a party would immediately show up with shovels in hand ready to start digging. And there were times when nothing but digging would get us out. The weather was quite warm and never dropped below freezing. We had light rain in the evening and overnight. It was wonderful to go to sleep with the pitter patter of rain on the RTT. I was awesome to meet everyone again, and especially Roberto and Diego who drove up from San Diego to join us. -

March MORG: Bowman Snow Run
RobertDingli replied to Mr.BlueSky's topic in NCLR Scheduled Trips and Event Information
I plan to join. Hopefully the trail is firm and it doesn’t end up being another winchfest. -
+1 for the Exped Megamat and a good sleeping bag My lowest temp sleeping bag is synthetic which supposedly works better when wet at the downswing of weight and bulk. I try very hard not to get anything wet. Condensation becomes an issue in well sealed tents and I now err on the well ventilated side to avoid moisture inside the tent. I have various tents from a well sealed Autohome RTT to a Crashpad swag tent and a Haven Tent hammock / tree tent. I’ve used them all in the snow. I use battery powered and chemical hand warmers in each case. A heater would be nice, but I’m usually warm within a minute of climbing into the sleeping bag.

2023 Annual Shaver Lake Snow Run
RobertDingli replied to Elherbinator's topic in NCLR Scheduled Trips and Event Information
It looks like my daughter, Charlotte, will also come up. She will drive her ‘91 RRC and share our site. She wants to try running the trail but we will have to see what the conditions are like. This would be her first snow trail run. -

MORG cancelled. It appears the smoke is affecting areas a long way south of the previous predicted smoke path. -

Further update. We have heard that Tamarack Lake is low right now. The plan is to head there first with nearby Lost Lake East as the backup. Backup camp spot Apologies for all the changes in plan. I did scout the original White Rock Lake site just last weekend but the Mosquito fire has flared up since then.
