  1. Finally got my rear diff back together and installed today. I needed to replace the internal locker air line which had cracked. Thanks to Eric for helping me check the gear mesh and setting the back lash. It was interesting to note that this professionally built diff had been set to a back lash of 12 thou which is 2 to 3 times the correct spec. Next time I will build it myself.
  2. I’m in. We should consider a night at Alabama Hills, perhaps on the last night.
  3. I’ll be traveling down with Nick and also staying at the Avi. We will be leaving South Bay mid morning.
  4. We are hoping to make it. I purchased the pass in anticipation.
  5. We intend to join with at least one child. I will ask my teenage girls and see what sort of reaction they have to celebrating John’s imminent departure.
  6. What about your D2? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. We will be leaving the Bay Area around 4pm and expect to be at camp some time before 9pm.
  8. I am trying to consolidate my overlanding activities to just one vehicle (DiscoStu the D2) and want to find a home for some stuff that I have built for the L322. In particular, I would like to sell the rear storage drawer system that I custom built to fit an L322. It takes a Dometic Cfx65 fridge and Frontrunner 50 water tank. It was two large drawers of 60 and 50 liter capacity. This unit goes into the rear of the L322 in place of the spare tire cover. The spare has to be removed but this creates a large additional storage volume that can be accessed with the drawers in place. To complement the storage unit, I will also throw in this custom fold down hitch mounted tire carrier that also holds a shovel and high lift jack. It is designed to neatly follow the bumper of the L322 and I have never scraped it on various trails. The storage unit will also neatly fit into a D2 without the water tank. It’s a tight fit and the door storage pocket and speaker needs to be removed. The storage unit will probably fit into other models and you are welcome to come check it out in Cupertino. A complete write up of the build can be found on Expedition Portal (L322 Overlanding Build and Adventures). $800 OBO for the storage unit and tire carrier. The fridge and water tank are not included. UPDATE: L322 ITEMS SOLD More items to be listed. Watch this space.
  9. Excellent work. I too had to make sliders for my 07 RRSC years ago although there is now an option to buy a reasonable set through Lucky8. Ironically, I could not find a good frame mounted set for my D2 and made a set for that vehicle as well. I like the way you did the infill panels. I am thinking of doing the same since it is possible to slip a small foot between the slider and step. Please share any more photos you might have to show the detail under the infill panels. Moab is awesome and well worth the trip if you have the time.
  10. Interested. I just need to confirm that we are not otherwise booked for a family camp trip.
  11. I used to think the same but managed quite nicely with just the front. My traction control was in working condition and probably helped a little.
  12. Thanks for the write up Don. It brings back many fond memories. One minor correction, DiscoStu didn’t puncture a tyre but did crack a washer bottle. Tragic, I know. I also ripped out an air locker air line but completed the last half of the trail with an open rear diff with no problems. This raises an interesting question - if you could only fit one locker, would you fit it to the front or rear?
  13. Text book torsional break of a brittle material.
  14. When are you thinking of going? I am fully booked prepping for Rovicon and next available in September.
  15. Thanks for checking. Good thing I have packed the BioLite fire pit. I don’t have firewood (only heat beads for cooking) but we should be able to find something.
  16. Certainly Jason (11 yr old) will be joining me as always. He would love to meet your kids again.
  17. We plan to meet up for the early morning convoy with Miles. I’ll probably be taking the L322 since I am still waiting on a delivery of power steering fluid for the D2.
  18. Looks amazing. I can’t wait to see it in the flesh.
  19. I’d love to join you but I can’t get out during the week.
  20. Are you impressed with my ability to build two rigs in the space of a few months or my extraordinary ability to destroy one within a few weeks?
  21. Looking forward to seeing you out on the trails. You might remember that I fitted new radius arms to my otherwise stock D2 at the workshop. Well, since then, I built up that D2, wrecked it in a roll over and then built another one. My, now 17 yr old, daughter helped with each build. It has been a very rewarding bonding experience.
