I forget what I put in my P38... I do whatever Jiffylube synthetic because they top it off for free between changes. This is a policy that will likely bankrupt my particular Jiffylube franchise. I do roughly 4,000 miles between changes.

Howdy! New to the area from south Texas. I'm just starting to build up my rig and am starting with the bumper and winch. I am more than willing and capable to do it myself but after reading a lot of posts saying that its not as easy as it looks, I am getting a little discouraged. Plus I have another car project that is taking up most of my time and garage space. Does anyone know of a good shop that knows how to put them on or can give me some encouragement that it is not too bad of a job? Thanks guys

You might remember that I fitted new radius arms to my otherwise stock D2 at the workshop. Well, since then, I built up that D2, wrecked it in a roll over and then built another one. My, now 17 yr old, daughter helped with each build. It has been a very rewarding bonding experience.

Couldn't just let the parts all sit over night on the To-Do bench... so the extended bump stops have been installed.'

It is a bit sad, but shame on me for not ensuring the truck had them when I bought it.... alas the passenger front fender is now far more - ... not flat.

Hopefully this will save Snowflake's fenders from further carnage....

Hi. I also have an L322 and participated in Rovicon 2019 as a passenger in Colin’s RRC. I would suggest that 33†tyres, a winch and a lot of underbody protection would be required. I would also carry some spare suspension bushes and rear tow links which I have been know to destroy on trails. Lastly, you would need to have a healthy dose of don’t care when it comes to cosmetic damage.

I have sliders but not the underbody protection. I fitted 31.4†tyres (285/50R20) and get rubbing on all four corners at various times. I would really like to go to 33s and perhaps downsize the wheels to the smallest size I can fit at 19â€. A project for the future.

This year I will be taking a D2 with Nick as my passenger. I look forward to meeting you and sharing L322 ideas.

Perhaps a limited late model vehicle run to the bowl can be attempted in the future.

In my mind your never experienced enough I definitely learn something new new every time I go out. But thank you all, some of my best memories as a kid are wheeling with my dad in his rovers and is no doubt why I have such a sickness for them. I’m hopeing my kid gets saddled with that same sickness and will spend all his time and money on rovers that way when Hes old he’ll understand why dad never got him that new toy or trip to Disney land, all the money was spent on the rover.

Let's see how things go this summer and maybe we'll do a late-model Rubicon run.  I'm thinking just go in to the bowl for starters; maybe push on to Spider and spend the night there then come back out.  That would give a good feel without getting into the hardest parts.

I've never seen or heard of an L322 on the Rubicon.  To even get through the gatekeeper you'll need at least 32s, rod lift or similar (2-2.5"), GOOD sliders (you'll use them extensively), steel bumpers or the willingness to damage your plastic ones, a winch, and skid plates.  I'd say that pretty much holds true for any late model Rover.

Robert would be a good one to discuss this with as he was at one time thinking his L322 might be up for the Rubicon, but after riding though decided maybe a solid axle truck would be a better option.  After taking my LR3 through I pretty much came to the same conclusion!

If you dig around here you can find the write-up I did after taking the 3 though in '16.  Here's a link to photos of that trip as well.

If anyone has room for a stowaway, please let me know. As much as I’d love to sacrifice my L322 to the trail gods, Don has forbid it. I’d still love to ride as a passenger though.

P.S. I travel light on everything but booze.

Mr.BlueSky reacted to Elherbinator in Custom Spring retainer
So I’ve been having an issue with my front driver coil for almost a year. It will sometimes dip under the dislocation cone and then get jammed into the bottom of the cone.

I had a few ideas of how to solve this. First was limiting the suspension droop with a limit strap. Straight forward and would work, but who wants to limit suspension travel on a crawler? Another was to buy or make longer cones. Fine, except any longer would likely impede on the shocks movement at full droop. The shock already touches on the inside when extended. The third was to try and modify how the spring moves.
The axles movement when articulating causes spring to appoint out and forward because the axle itself is moving slightly more under the vehicle. That forces the top of the spring to travel pretty far away from being centered when the bottom of the spring is full retained. So I ditched the old spring retainer and made one out of some scrap steel and a random nut and bolt. The new retainer only retains the spring at one point and allows the spring to pivot off of that point. The point I chose would be about 4 o clock if the forward most point of the spring was 12.

I just welded the bolt down to where the bump stop should hit (it doesn’t reach anymore, and doesn’t even reach the new bolt) and then tightened down my piece of 1/4” steel with a hole drilled in it and a lip with a locking nut. Simple, but should hold down the side and allow for easy removal. Also should not move around when the spring is compressed.
Seems to work when extended with the Hi Lift

Btw, the sway is disconnected on the other side so this should be fully extended. You can see the outside of the spring is lifted and that gives me just enough extra height on the top rung to stay on the cone.

Fingers crossed this holds up on trails.

Also, did the a similar thing for my rear spring. That somehow popped out of its cone too. That was more straightforward. I just cut off the back side of the retainer so it only held it on the front side.
