Mr.BlueSky got a reaction from DHappel in 2020 Meeting of the Members & Q3 Board Meeting (Annual Event News Update)
    Members,

This year, 2020, by far has been the most disruptive year I myself can remember in a long time.

The novel Coronavirus, heat waves, massive wildfires have impacted all of us in ways big and small. From disrupting smaller trips like our Monthy Offroad Gatherings to our biggest event of the year the annual.

As I type this fires burn across the state, taking homes, affecting the air quality and leading to National Park closures. The Creek fire currently burns at 10% containment directly in the National Forests we had aimed to host our 2020 Annual.

The board has decided to cancel this year's Annual Event. We did not make this decision lightly.

    The Good News

We of course would be doing a disservice if we canceled the event without any alternatives however!

I am pleased to announce - in place of the annual -  we will be resurrecting the 2020 Meeting of the Members!

    What:

The Meeting of the Members this year will be held at Don's place in Walnut Grove (Thanks Don!). Saturday morning has an optional run to Prairie City to play until retiring back to Don's in the afternoon for BBQ and Rover Games as well as the traditional rover parts swap.

This event will require attendees to BYO-food - Bring your own meats, beverages, and sides. Feel free to bring enough to share - it's a potluck. The Board will provide grills (possible a BBQ trailer) as well as a few kegs.

Additionally, Don has offered folks who wish to camp out Saturday night .

    When (Rough Agenda):

    October 3rd - 4th

9:00 AM Start at Prairie City [Optional]

Lastly we went back and cleaned out the rental, I found a couple rover suspension bolts, and found the cat.

    Up the hill we went....

    And stayed : )

Maybe we should do a DitD in Skyland?

This past two weeks was a whirlwind of activity.

Scott helped out by lending his small utility trailer and it was promptly filled with Rover parts, rover engines, and merc engines. - Up the hill it went.

There was probably at least two trailer loads of other random rover gear - Up the hill it went.

Probably 3 trailer loads to move the outdoor workshop/carport stuff - Up the hill it went.

Snowflake was loaded up with all the camping gear - Up the hill it went

Then came the big move... I had booked a 20ft U-haul and auto-hauler. Of course due to the fires all the 20ft trucks were booked. So a 26ft truck it was! (fun fact they are the same price).

Then comes the day to pick up the truck and lo and behold someone backed a truck into the last hauler.... great.

A scramble ensued. I thought of Don. Too far. Colin had a lead that led to sadness. Luckily Scott saved the day again by recommending his neighbor's trailer borrowed from the East San Jose mafia. .

The 110 was winched onto the trailer (thanks Johann and Mario ) -  Up the hill it went.

    Photos to follow.

Grabbed a bunch of SWAG today from the brewery and will be picking up the beer tomorrow on my way out.

There will be two tin tackers, one for the furthest driven Rovicon truck and the other for the best documented “hold my beer†moment...

    What’s on tap?
    - Bo Pils: Bohemian Pilsner, 5%
    - Pre-Prohibition Lager, Heritage CA malt, 5.2%
    - Red IPA: malt forward IPA, 6.5%

For the Thursday night crowd, something from my archive of releases might show up .

I’ll have some bags of ice and a bundle of firewood. Traveling light since my hall pass is only good for a night.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. Look for the “LAGER†LR4.

So here is your all star crew of trail leaders for Friday. Don will taking off for a scouting run to grab a camp around 8 with one or two other folks. Mike will leading the first regular group around 9, Lutzi at 10, Luke at 11, and myself about noon. We will figure out who goes with each group up there (I already have too many requests to be in the first group so be prepared to be disappointed if that’s your hope). Note that these are departure times, so you want to be aired down and ready to roll. Friday’s trail run is relatively short (3 miles), so don’t stress about leaving early. There will be plenty of camping spots to use and plenty of day to get there.

Ended up going with a Whiteline brand panhard. I looked into getting some heims with a 16mm bore, but I couldnt find any with bungs that would fit into standard size tubing. I was able to find some that would fit into 21mm ID tube, but could not source decent tube. I could make some standard tube work with a little boring, but I decided to take the easy way out. I chose this brand because it had 3 bends instead of 4. Besides one less bend, which is a weak point, the bends are also more shallow and should be stronger. Plus, it isn’t TerraFirma so it is automatically stronger.

Spent the weekend at Strawberry Lake. Before even hitting the trailhead, I had my panhard literally snap in two. It was weird, happened on just dirt road that any Honda Civic would have been fine on. It was TerraFirma brand, so I wasn’t totally shocked. After it broke, the passenger side flopped down and hit a rock, so it was broken and pretty badly bent as well. I took off the broken pieces and ended up driving the trail without it. It was a pain in the ass since I couldn’t really turn very much and it is a very narrow trail with lots of S turns. It worked out, just had to do a lot of 3 point turns.
On Sunday, Andrew drove me and my broken panhard to Lakeshore Resort (site of this years Annual) to see fellow NCLR member Steve. It just happened to be the closest civilization to the trail and owned by a club member.
Steve had a sledgehammer that I used to straighten some of the bent parts and then he welded the snapped portion back together. I was able to slap it back in and drive it home.
