Well, as with many of this D1's gremlins, this one fixed itself the next day.

Thanks for the info Mr.BlueSky.  I'll cross my fingers and check out those breather tubes the next time it happens.  Hopefully no time soon.

Any one have any insight into this problem?

Out of nowhere when filling up, it was filling super slowly, then suddenly pouring out of the filler without shutting off the pump.  Happened three times and I even tried a different pump with same results.  It's like it's the tank is not venting and it's getting pressurized?

    Thanks for reading.  -Chris

It's a short drive to the area to begin cutting.

That's the plan essentially, from there we can build additional ones based on groups interest.

Luke is co-leading and will likely not be doing a tree too....so folks can scout if there's any snow left... doubtful.

I am thinking about getting lift rods for my RRS. What does everyone thing about the different options, I am looking at either the pround rhino ones on lucky 8 or johnson rods. Are there any others I should look at? The GAP tool is out of my budget right now unfortunately. Should I leave them on all the time or only when I get to the trail? Are they hard to install?
    Thanks in advance!

Took the classic to smog - it promptly failed before I could roll it in the station...

Check engine light came on as I rolled into the parking lot.

The only time I have seen the GAP tool on sale is this time of year at Lucky8. FWIW.

I am running the Proud Rhino's because they were inexpensive and from what read, the same length as the Johnson Rods. You are replacing a piece of plastic with metal to trick the height sensors in both options. So I don't think it matters.

I do use the GAP tool in conjunction with the lift rods. I have a highway setting that puts me back to stock height-ish to preserve fuel economy in my daily driver. If I am off-road, I put it in off-road height. The other functions with the GAP Tool are great if you are doing your own wrenching, off the beaten path...

Rods are the cheapest way to be at off road height at all times.

My experience is.... Upside: more lift. Downside: harsher ride. I didn't care for the ride, so I took them off and got a gap tool.

The rods are pretty easy to put on/off. Maybe 20 minutes at first, and you'd probably get faster. I wouldn't want to do it all the time, though.

If you install them for permanent use, you'll want to get an alignment. Not a big deal, but another expense.

I'll send you my unused ones so you can play around with them.

Going to try and make this one for my first event! Apparently no trees, so hanging out it is then. Snow running is probably out of the question with all seasons.

Mr.BlueSky reacted to foster in 2010+ RRS...I want to build one for trail capability but still enjoyable to drive on pavement..
I briefly had a RRS that I was planning to build into a dedicated trail rig. A few people here have built out RRSs; Esten and Chad. Esten's is a later one, and likely the one you saw at the Annual. Mario's minty green one was there, too, and I think I remember discussing it with you.

They are pretty trail-capable out of the box, just like all the modern LR3 and later Rovers. The shorter wheelbase makes it pretty maneuverable, compared to my LR3. If you wanted a fun on the pavement but can handle itself off-road truck, the RRS is a very good platform. Some of the 2010+ ones have a rear locking diff, but it's harder to find.

The limitation for adding off-road bits are two major things; brake size and parts availability.

Wheel sizes are limited by the brakes, and all over the place. The 2006-09 4.4l NA motor will take LR3 18" wheels, no problem. I forget the specifics about the 4.2l supercharged and can't remember if any 18" rims will fit over the Brembos. 2010+ non-supercharged will take 18" compomotive wheels, and maybe tuffant wheels, or 18" LR3 wheels with spacers. On 2010+ supercharged RRS, I think you're stuck with 20" wheels. There are pretty good 20" AT tires now but you definitely will have a lot less sidewall. Depends on what you want to do with the truck, but something to consider.

The bigger issue I had was parts availability. Off road parts for the LR3 are plentiful, tested, and all across the price spectrum. For the Sport, there aren't many aftermarket parts suppliers, so things like sliders, bumpers and roof racks can be way more expensive with fewer options. But, they're out there.

I really like the RRS, and don't think you'd regret it. 510hp sounds like a blast (and is on my short list for the next truck I get). The LR3/LR4 is a bit more practical (bigger, more utilitarian design, etc) but the RRS looks better and is a bit more luxurious. There's a tradeoff either way, and no wrong answer.

We probably won’t get a tree but we would love to bum over the hill and hang out with everyone if that’s ok. I’ll bring my chain saw to at least look the part.

    Hello everyone,

The board has the idea of going to cut down Xmas trees together in the National Forest and hope you can join us.

Plan is to meet in Pollock Pines on Saturday Dec 5th at NOON,  at the SafeWay parking lot.

                 Safeway, 6498 Pony Express Trail,
                 Pollock Pines, CA 95726

From Safeway we have a short drive to the Mormon Emigrant trail just past Jenkins lake and we are able pull trees from the shaded Green areas.

You can get up to two trees, just need to acquire the permits.

The cost is $10 a tree and you will need to purchase prior to our event.  Also buy soon as they have sold out already in the Tahoe NF!

    https://www.recreation.gov/tree-permits/cce82478-ebcf-11ea-b83f-6e0e43d29f74/order

Mormon Emigrant is a paved road that is not plowed, so for those interested in going snow wheeling we can organize those folks there after everyone has a tree to head on up the road to explore.

Additionally, depending on the COVID state we maybe able to head to a restaurant/brewery for additional socializing.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and please mark attendance in the calendar or reach out to myself or Luke so we know to keep any eye out.

This is open to all "Running" Rovers so please feel welcome to attend for the tree, socializing and or snow wheeling...something for everyone!

Read codes on the classic today (already forgot what it was : ( ... )

LRDirect order came in with the extra alu wheel nuts.

Even if 3/5 wasn't bad, I feel much more comfortable driving around with 5/5 lug nuts ; )

A friend of a friend had a friend who’s wife was fed up with the broke down cars in her yard, lucky for me my better half is ok with my horrible rover addiction. So over the weekend I was followed home by this little gem. She is definitely worse looking up close and the rats have chewed up the spark plug wires so the big question is does it become a parts bin then off to the scrap yard or get it going and see how many cheap mods can be thrown at it then see just how far the little Range Rover can be pushed up the trail. Any thoughts on which way to go? I’m open to other fun plans with it as well.
