  1. argh. taking the little one to the oakland zoo on 18th... so, i'm out.
  2. You have the same ARB bumper as mine. So, if/when you do put a winch in... you'll need to get an offset hawse fairlead (unless you go steel cable and rollers). And the winch will mount feet forward. And you'll prob need about 12-13' of cables to run from battery to the winch. Once i complete my suspension swap, you're welcomed to look at my setup.
  3. Hey, welcome to NCLR! I replied to your post on Defender source and glad you found your way here. Enjoyed your Defender blog and look forward to seeing those upgrades!
  4. spotted this the other day at the Pruneyard in Campbell (San Jose). It's a '94 NAS soft top (#999) converted to station wagon & swapped the taillights.
  5. Happy to share stuff I have in the car. I had high flow cats, but removed b/c CA SMOG. That reminders me I need to go smog it. :-/ Def drives different than Rovers. But yea, happy to meet up to talk about not-a-rover. I'll check about Lost Coast - love to go. Maybe bring wife and the kid to this.
  6. Hey Ron, I think I went on a drive with that group when I reloc'ed here few years ago. Anyways, here is my 2008 Boxster S.. prob more mods on this than my 90. Not sure I'd make the 24th on short notice.
  7. Congrats! And unlimited PTO catch is... you can't bank your PTO and company doesn't have to keep it on their books. And most people take less vacation days when it's unlimited PTO.
  8. seems like all the cool kids are going to this... need to figure out how to pull this one off.
  9. Saw this on ExPo....I don't have A&E or FYI network, but in case anyone here does... https://expeditionportal.com/ae-partners-with-land-rover-on-60-minute-all-you-need-to-know-overlanding-documentary/ A&E Networks have partnered with Land Rover to produce an hour-long overlanding documentary titled All You Need To Know: Overlanding, which premiers on Sunday, April 18 at 10 p.m. Eastern time. As part of this comprehensive content partnership, All You Need To Know: Overlanding delves into the burgeoning trend of overland travel, and features Land Rover’s new Defender in action on the trails of Arizona and Utah. The host of the show, Christian Murphy, joins our very own global travel expert Scott Brady, for a five-day overland trip to learn about this exciting style of travel and see why it’s become so popular in recent years. “Overlanding brings a unique joy and nuance to travel, providing access to all of the experiences, culture, and natural beauty between points A and Z,†said Scott Brady, CEO of Overland International, Inc. “Using an overland vehicle like the Defender allows us to get off the beaten path, to venture further into the unknown, and to connect with adventure in entirely different ways. As travelers, we need experiences like that more than ever.†“With more and more people taking four-wheeled adventures, Land Rover and A+E Networks want to shine a spotlight on the world of Overlanding,†said Stuart Schorr, Vice President of Communications, Jaguar Land Rover North America. “Packing up your vehicle with everything you need and getting out to explore our amazing natural surroundings is truly rewarding. This program starring Scott Brady and the new Land Rover Defender should inspire continued growth in this specialized area of adventure.†All You Need To Know: Overlanding premieres in the Outdoor block Sunday, April 18th at 10 p.m. ET on FYI.

  12. I got a hall pass. Yay! I need to catch up on the thread... (or someone can give me cliff notes ) I can meet Saturday morning in Lodi also. On the return home, I need to fast trek home by early afternoon. Otherwise, my wife will turn my truck (maybe she said me; I wasn't really paying attention) into a pumpkin by Sunday morning. Do i need to make some sort of reservation somewhere? Or did Don take care of that? Johann, what to caravan up to Lodi on Saturday? Anyone else want to caravan up?
  13. still working on a scheme plan to make this happen. It'll either be just me, or me + a 12mo old, which will be all too interesting... Or I guess a 3rd option is no trip. :-/
  14. take a picture of the tree(s).. it'll last longer. I, with wife & kiddo, will be in LR2 with all season tires. Greg, what does the route look like?

  21. Alright, as most of us know...NCLR club member and secretary John Foster will be moving out of bay area in November. All, most, many, alright.. some of us will miss him dearly. So, we are going to celebrate his move with a send off next Saturday, Nov 7th. Miles has offered to host this send off party at this new compound in the santa cruz mountains. festivities will start at 11 (come earlier or later)... I think Miles has a grill to cook up some burger and hotdogs. Maybe he can find some chickens from his neighbors...who knows. Here is his address... 24900 Skyland Rd, Los Gatos Hope to see you there! And especially you, John Foster!
  22. Hey Paul! It'll be a good reunion trip! Yea, married + a kiddo. It's been that long since we caught up! I'm optimistic that i'll make this trip. fingers crossed!
  23. I run Mobil1 15w50. It’s heavy weight, but synthetic runs even in cold. That said, I use it bc of higher zinc content that’s typically recommended for these older rover engine designs. That and these engines usually run hot and benefit from the 50 weight. I buy these by the 5qt jugs when they have sale and rebates on them. I think they work out to maybe $4/qt some times.
