  1. I have a bunch of National Geographic paper maps. I like to use them for planning routes in new areas. I prefer it over a scrolling through a screen. Also always a good idea to have a paper map handy in case your electronics fail you. I also recommend getting one of those giant map books. I’ll give include a link to the one I have below. These maps are good since they have forest roads and 4x4 trails in them. They won’t be useful for closures.

  2. Fun trip! Signal Peak trail was ok, we got through it much faster than I thought we would based on the trail description I had read. It was good because it left us plenty of time to explore the surrounding area. Really impressed with what we were able to find as far as forest roads, campsites, and river access. I am sure is a lot more since we really didn’t get too far from our camp. Looking forward to another trip there next summer. Going to have to talk Chris and Sasha into doing a podcast soon. We can recap the Annual and this past MORG.

  3. Just a reminder that we will be having a raffle Saturday night. The raffle will have new items that have been donated to the club and also purchased by the club.
We will also be having a “Swap Meet Raffle”. This means that members can trade in old gear to raffle off in exchange for tickets. Tickets will also be available for purchase, but this is a good way to get your gear that’s collecting dust and get it into the hands of somebody that can use it. Also gets you an opportunity to win some gear you want through raffle tickets.
The general idea is that we will determine a reasonable value for the item you’re donating to the raffle. That value will be translated into tickets based on our single ticket pricing, so not based on larger denomination ticket pricing. We don’t want to clog up the raffle with items nobody actually will want, so if you have a questionable item or one in really rough shape, please DM me first. Also feel free to provide any documentation of the items value, like a screen shot of an online store. Generally good condition used stuff goes for about half the new value.
If you have any questions or concerns, please DM me. Should be a lot of fun. We have some big ticket items this year and hopefully we will get a bunch of members bringing some Cool stuff as well.

  4. It was a great one this year! For me, it was a little disappointing due to mechanical failure, but it didn’t prevent me from having a great time. It’s like a reunion every year where we get to hang out with our rover rock crawling buddies from around the country, and world at this point. Many I see on a regular at club functions, but many I only get to see once a year at the event (Donnie 😂). Great trail running and even better post trail camp socializing.

  5. Don and I decided we want to run the Rubicon back to Loon Lake from the Springs. In previous years we have just run the trail from west to east, Loon to the Tahoe side, but have always planned on incorporating an optional run back to Loon Lake for folks trailering. Plus it’s like running a whole new trail if you haven’t done it before. I especially enjoy running Big Sluice uphill instead of our typical downhill descent. Our plan will be to split it into another 2 days and head home on Monday.

So the plan will remain the same as far as Friday and Saturday. Sunday morning we will still be running the traditional trail run up Cadillac and to the Tahoe staging area like we have in previous years.
For those who are trailering or anybody who would like to run it back to Loon Lake, we will lead an optional group run heading back the way we came and running the trail “backwards” relative to how we have been running it.

At this point we aren’t sure how many trucks will want to come, so we aren’t get ahead of ourselves on the specific plans as far as camp and exact parts of the trail we want to do on each day. We will figure it out once we have a better understanding of who would be coming with.

So please reply on the thread if you think you’d be running this option with us. We don’t need to know in advance though, so you’re welcome to just figure it out up there and decide on the fly. Feel free to DM myself or Don with any questions or concerns.

  6. New episode out, and it’s our longest ever! By probably like an hour 😂. But only because we were having such a good time and had many stories to tell. It was actually so long that we got the last few minutes cut off for unknown reasons. Don and Gustav come by to tell some tales of their summer trips with an improvised guest appearance from Robert. We even started a new drinking game. The rules are simple, drink every time Don says “anyways”. Make sure you have a safe ride home because you’ll be drunk.
