My truck was way too far apart when I learned about this run last year so I made me promise myself I wouldn’t miss it this year. So I joined NCLR as soon as the sign ups came on. Now I just need to keep the rover alive till then and hope I don’t make a fool of myself and slow you guys down on the trail. Not gonna lie I’m pretty damn excited for this can’t wait for August now.

Ashcroft?  I was able to get stuff from them quickly despite the Covid fun.

I don’t go to the welding, the welding comes to me. Besides, that sounds like a job for a sledgehammer, not a welder

You would think anything involving the word 'yacht' would pretty much automatically disqualify you from 'essential'.

Yet I'm still working, pretty much normal pace.  I've had a few cancellations; lost a delivery to MDR for this month for example, but nothing big.  Still plenty of work.  Since I work alone and rarely interact with others I'm pretty much just keeping a low profile and just doing my thing.  Michele has been strictly wfh for weeks now and has been traveling to the bay with me as an excuse to get out.  This is a sometimes good/sometimes bad thing....

Mostly I'm eager for the barbers to re-open!  this 2 months between haircuts thing has me starting to eye my beard trimmer and think bad thoughts.

On the other hand, I've gone on a Rover-Improvement program for the D1.
Completely re-doing my OBA setup to include (2) 2 gallon tanks and front/rear air quick connects
Ditched my existing small compressor/tank system that ran the front locker and tied that into the tanks
Swapped the rear Detroit Locker for an Ashcroft air locker (also part of the air system now)
Pulled out half a mile of random wiring and switches and changed to an VoSwitch digital controller/relay box
Sent both driveshafts off to Tom Woods for a refresh
Installed a remote control engine kill/battery disconnect at the dash
Finally installed a fan shut-off switch for deep water crossings
Rebuilt and re-valved all the shocks
Re-organized my on-board tools storage for the 12th time

Probably a couple other things I can't think of off the top of my head.  I think much of this is a way to avoid doing the job I really should be doing which is swapping all the doors/front fenders over from the parts truck and re-painting.  But then again I've always been good at avoiding jobs like that.

All this and nobody will even be able to tell a difference!   But hopefully she'll be good to go for the Rovicon and Moab later this year!

Oh yeah, speaking of Moab, also bought new axles/wheels for the trailer and have plans for some mods to that.  I'm still not comfortable with the adapters that I'm running after last year's episode.  Had that tire gone into traffic, that could have been a major issue instead of just a major annoyance.

A couple folks have been asking about "Light Mode" and forum color schemes.

To make it easy here is a quick how-to post your never even knew you needed .

At the bottom left of your screen there is a button "Change Theme."

If you select this and choose NCLR - Light, the forum becomes a brighter place!

What is the benefit you ask? The forum itself was built and designed for light mode - in some places (The store for example) the fonts are a dark grey and do not automatically update in "Dark Mode" to be read-able.

    Hello Land Rover Rock Crawlers,

I am happy to announce that The 2nd Annual Rovicon Event is a go. The event will be held Friday to Sunday, August 14-16.

The plan is to run from Loon Lake to Buck Island on Friday. Camp at Buck Island Friday night. Run from Buck Island to Rubicon Springs on Saturday. We have reserved camping at Rubicon Springs for Saturday, and that will be included with registration. Sunday we will exit up Cadillac Hill and out through the Tahoe side of the trail. Same plan as last year.

What will be different this year is the registration and we also hope to have nearly twice the trucks. After last years success with very limited time to plan and market, we are anticipating many more people interested in attending, especially with our large feature in Alloy and Grit and a years worth of features in our social media pages. Because of the nature of the trail, we cannot have too many trucks in our groups. For this reason we are limiting the event to 30 drivers.

Members will not only get a discount, but you also get first dibs on registration. REGISTRATION IS LIVE as of tonight!!!
In addition to running the trail, your $45 gets you camping at Rubicon Springs, free beer courtesy of Benefits Experts, a Rovicon 2 shirt, and a Rovicon 2 patch. Essentially designed to be a break even for the club.

This is a hard trail. It is also a long trail. We have strict vehicle requirements stated on the registration page designed to provide a safe trip and also allow us a pace that will make the group runs enjoyable. Please DM me, Greg, or Don if you have questions regarding vehicle or driver requirements. This is not a good trail for first timers to rock crawling, but luckily there is plenty of time between now and August to get in some experience and also modify your vehicle to get Rubicon ready!

Got a new fog light switch (PRC3432)for the 110 off fleabay today.

My original switch had a cracked plastic handle.

Didn't expect this "New-old stock" to come corroded.

Some elbow grease, pencil eraser, and bristle brush and it is back to new.
