May MORG - No Flats at Poker Flat

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone!

May MORG is almost here! See all the deets below as they stand. Can't wait to see ya'll there!

When: May 20th and 21st

What: May. MORG - overnight camping optional.

Where: Poker Flat

Things to know:

  • Easy enough for stock trucks but more fun than just another fire road.
  • This is a MORG - all Rover owners and all vehicle models are welcome to join! If you have a friend that is a rover-head and wants to get a taste for the NCLR club life this would be a good trip.
  • Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
  • I will be coming from San Francisco if anyone wants to meet up along the way we can coordinate.

*Note - we have had record snow fall so there is a chance that we won't get all the way through or very far at all.*

Message if you have any questions or concerns

Lots of Love,

Mario

I’m hoping to attend. This trip is definitely a scenic highlight of the year. Camping overnight is recommended to see the amazing sunset.

Edit - note this is a photo from Corral Hollow, which was the original target trail.  I hope we can run this later in the year

I'm in! As usual will see if Mark will go but I wouldn't bet on it. I was up by Pinecrest Wednesday and Sunday with 0 snow on the roads or side of the road 7,000 feet. I saw a lot of snow melting in shady lots. With it being a ridge over I'm guessing it shouldn't be terrible. On the other hand Dodge Ridge (8,200) still had at least 8 feet at the base and maybe 30 feet at the top.

Did the dates change? On the calendar it's listed for the 13th! Shoot I can't make 5.20.

I didn’t notice this. I was also assuming the 13th from the calendar. I could probably make both dates.

Ah bummed. Hope y'all have a good trip.

That's a pity...

I want to go, but I'm still not sure if I will be able to come. Too many happenings and definitely not enough weekends!

I hear you - it is truly a challenge to keep up with the home chores and rover chores and camp!

But looking at the calendar, Theresa, Henry, and myself should make this one!

Should be interesting with weather. Shows to be raining now and warm up over the next few weeks, but far out weather reports tend to be inaccurate and more of a guess. Shaver Lake got a mix of rain and snow these past few days totaling 2". That itself isn't much, but considering's its May and suppose to be in the 30's and 40's for the next week. Was hoping to go camping this weekend but left my snow gear back home :(. Yosemite closed Hwy 140 until June/July due to weather. Pinecrest and Dodge Ridge (similar elevation and a ridge over) got some snow and rain totaling 2" so I'm guessing the river along the trail will be rather high. Now this is is 16 days before the trip, but figured would be worth looking at.

If the trip is on the 20th to the 21st I don't think I can make it. I was planning on the 13th to 14th.

Bummer.

It is on the 20/21. Had to make the change due to Mothers Day

For fun - here is the live web-cam of the bear valley ski resort.

Looks like they closed early this season!

Yeah! Dodge Ridge closed on Sunday. Not because of snow, but seasonal workers.

OK...

So I checked in on road conditions...I'm sad to say as of the May 4th corral hollow will be closed until at least the 31st.

We will be trying to make the run up to Poker Flat (it's also a ghost town 👻). This trail is a little further for anyone who plans do make it a day trip (at least from the bay).

Lets plan to meet at the Rite-Aid in Grass Valley at 10:00

There are 2 routes to get up to Poker Flat depending on the conditions, so get ready for an adventure!

Weather will be sunny with temps in the 60's to 70's during the day and dipping down in to the 40's at night. Don't forget your wooly jumpers!

I'll plan to put a corral hollow run on the calendar for later this summer when its open, don't worry.

Sounds very tempting, but unfortunately I'll have to skip the trip: things to do at home.

Will wait to see the pictures.

Leigh Anne and I are thinking of going to Poker Flats.  Anyone else going for sure?

We are planning on going still!

@El Chapomint what's the head count? Might want to put the new plan in the first post for easy access : ).
