Fit vs flex?

I only got one side on.  Still have to do the other side and may want to tweak fitment some more yet.  Pics will come eventually.

So was able to swap tires around, crazy how the sizes very for the same size.

Here’s how the kmc beadlocks look.

I finally got around to replacing the broken strut on the front of the LR3.

This should be a simple job, but I managed to drop a nut that fell between the rotor and the dust shield - meaning I had to pull the caliper, caliper carrier, and rotor off to retrieve the silly nut!

That sure looks like a nice way to work on a rover.

Not on my Rover, but on a 5.3 last engine that I’d like to put in my Rover one day (lucky 8 has a kit for these engines that can use the stock electronics on a disco 2). They are also popular motors in all kinds of builds. I can personally say they are excellent motors from my experience. This one here has 250k miles on it. No major service at all, still actually running original injectors, plugs, and wires. Although I’ve been meaning to do those for a long time now, but you know how that goes sometimes. Good power, good fuel economy, and reliable as anything. Water pump developed a leak and squeal. The pulley has a bad wobble. I suspect the bearing wore out and the caused the seal to fail. Not too bad for 250k tho. 4101b050b25f119370b70f2dd6aafe12.jpge37f0a24c01ee2be0d0ebecd87441d27.jpg1f733cc8811f250c89fd08bd759b8f31.jpg

Started on swapping the rear axles around.

Took a picture of the difference between a gbr hd 24 spline shaft and a summers Bros hd 30 spline.

Noticable but slight difference.

Difference is weight is significant.

Ah, at first I thought that was going to be an LS motor, but I see it's the last version of the venerable SBC.

If not for the smog issues I'd seriously be looking at doing an LS swap in my D1.  I know it can be made legal, I just don't want to jump through the hoops of figuring it all out.

I didn’t do it, but I had a guy draw up the Rover. This is from a photo taken going up the staircase at Slick Rock with Greg and Jaime last fall. I also asked the guy via email if he would like to donate a drawing to the WNLRR raffle. I figure it would probably be worth the advertising. I just emailed him, so I haven’t heard back yet. What do you guys think?7d9b7d43848fd3884a206cc1e11d7391.jpg

My old man's got 480k on a vortec like that one. Still runs somehow. Good choice.

Good call, and just in time.  That blond guy looks pretty sketchy.  Definitely up to no good!

  • 2 weeks later...

Been working with Don this week to swap out the broken BW TC from the RRC with the one from the disco. Making lots of progress.

I’ve also replaced the rear differential as it had a blown Detroit locker.

So that creates some work to swap over my 30 spline running gear. But that stuff is done now.

Just left is finishing up the install.c009e9e41872b884989c109f623d70ad.jpgdb11836f9ee76cfd1d837ac409eff384.jpgaa3bd65ac61919600a10c6309dbaaa31.jpg

I replaced the snapped parking brake cable on my 1988 Range Rover Classic. It snapped in the parking lot at the END of an A's game with my family in the car.  Not bad, 30 years.

SO, easy to replace?  Putting it back in was very easy.

Taking it out?  There are 9 steps in the manual.  Due to gunk, took me 3 hours.  and it was hard to undo the nuts coated in 30 years of blood sweat and gears.

But its done.  Thanks to Roverware for the exact right new part at a great price.  I can park on hills again.  Now on to the NEXT item on the list.

Mike,

Glad to have been able to help.  Hope http://www.RoverWare.US  can help on those next items too.

We had the new Overland Pros tent open and setup for the family. Making sure we all fit and loading sleeping bags for next weekend's first outing.

Hey, aren't you supposed to be working on the RRC?

I did some...I got the sawza out and cut parts of the front bumper off.

The brush guard they connected to the bumper wasn't my style.

I'll be working on it tomorrow night as well after the British car show.

Been commiting some time to the RRC this weekend and it's back on four tires.

Hubs are all assembled with missing seals plus replaced swivel seals.

I need to add liquids and tighten a few bolt.

Now I can finish the transfer case swap as I need to finishing connecting the linkage and then adjust the center console.

Shooting for a drive father's day weekend!
