  1. i have spare-parts box stuffed with alternator, serp belt, drop arm repair kit, jack & stand, spare brake hose, 1qt diff/TC squeeze pouch + usual extra quart of oil, trans/steering fluid and 1g of coolant. Recovery kit, and adding toilet, pop-up tent and wag bag kit.
Plus, camp kitchen stuff and fridge-food, water. Oh, let's not forget clothes and sleeping bags.
Not sure how I'll stuff everything into the truck at this point. I may need to put cargo box on the roof.

I don't do one of these trips and everything is again foreign to me. 😕

So many posts to catch up!

    - if we we are stopping for supplies on the way up, I’ll grab some stuff for the @jcb meat frenzy.

    - planning on returning 2-July. I have a beer festival on the afternoon of the third.

    - my first “stop” will be the brewery to grab necessary supplies and order fulfillment, but I may just do that Friday. Haven’t yet figured out where the potential SF/South Bay intercept will be on I-80.

getting excited and looking forward to some time on the trail.

I plan to get home by July 3rd, have a July 4th parade & bbq to prepare for. NCLR always welcomed.

So Mark as of now can't make it. But Amelia and Cassidy are in! This does mean I will be solo driving the road miles. Any advice for prepping for such mileage? I haven't done more than 400 miles in a day since 2021.

Since you’re driving a rover, at least couple of credit cards with high spending limits for gas. 😂

But seriously, besides the credit cards, extra fluid (oil, coolant, etc.) and snacks.
my 3yo will be riding shotgun, so I’m sure that 400mi drive will be broken up into at least 3 stops.

  4. Those are nice and going to royal brass has been my plan all along. But it looks like most crimps have a service life of a few years before needing service again. So, I was thinking the hose clamp route will make future serviceability easier.
Of course, California could ban & outlaw all gas powered vehicles in a few yrs and this becomes a non-issue. 😂 😭

Wow… glad you caught the oil leak in time. I bet snowflake saw its life flashed before its headlights!
Now, let me introduce you to thermo hose wraps… I put these around the oil hoses so any oil spray is contained inside the hose even if hose bursts. it’s cheap insurance if nothing else.

  5. The trans cooler line crimps are leaking on my 90.
Apparently, it's a fairly common issue on just about anything with trans cooler lines (Jeeps, GM, Fords, Pontiac (yes, not all pontiacs are rusted out yet) etc.).
While looking for a video on removing cooler lines on the 90, I came across a few videos on DIY replacing the hose.
Basically, the DIY (for those not familiar) is to cut the crimps, replace with new hose sections and use hose clamps to secure the hose to hard line (instead of re-crimping).
Here is a vid explaining: https://youtu.be/gDKmf2IdHt4?t=116

    Any downside of doing this?

    Hi All,

We have a family medical issue and won't be able to make the rally. If anyone is interested, we have one Member General admission and one guest ticket, plus Blackhawk camp ground site 113 for 3 nights if anyone is interested. We also posted this to the AZLRO Exchange area on FaceBook. Sorry we won't be able to meet everyone that's going. Next time.

Hi Joling, Sorry to hear about the news and I hope you and your family are doing well. We missed you at the rally and hope to see you at the next event!

  7. @Joling Mew If you haven't already, I'd suggest getting your HAM license before this event.

Most club outings & events use HAM radio for inter-veh communications. A technician license is relatively easy to study for & pass, and handheld radios can be had for about $20-30 on amazon.

Here is an on-line resource to help with study: https://hamstudy.org/. Their practice test is really good as a readiness gauge for passing the actual test.

  8. want to share this info here first before posting to the AZLR comment section.

@PaulD@Mffoster@Joling Mew - If you're up for roughing it at Cottonwood rally (instead of the hotels or wait for leftover volunteer campsites)... I reserved a campsite at Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood. It is about 9min drive to center of Cottonwood and  7min walk to the Blazing M Ranch.

There are a few sites left at the Blackhawk loop: https://azstateparks.com/reserve/#dead-horse/camping

It's $63 for 3 nights (Thur - Sunday check out) for 1veh tent campsite.
