  1. Ground tents should not leak water. After time you will need to reseal the seams, but the fabric should be totally waterproof. Seam sealant or sealing tape can be bought at most camping supply stores. I use a “footprint” under the tent, but that really just to protect the tent from damage. I use a ground mat for the vestibule area so I can use it as a mini mud room. Most non 4 season tents will require the rain fly to be waterproof. Most 4 seasons do not, but the rain fly keeps its a lot warmer and allows you to vent your tent without compromising the waterproofing. I have 4 tents and use 2 regularly. The 2 I use are 4 season tents. I don’t carry the fly in warmer weather. Makes it a lot easier to fit in the sack without the fly which is an added bonus. I try not to use a tent that is bigger than necessary either. A small area to heat combined with 2 dogs and a rain fly can create a tent that is significantly warmer than outside. I don’t think you need to get too crazy when snow camping. Just get some basic quality gear. Nice 4 season tent, good quality sleeping bag and pad, and some dry clothes to sleep in. I just use a 15 degree down bag and wear long John’s and rarely am uncomfortable. If it gets really cold, like the Shaver snow trip 2 years ago, then I’ll wear my down jacket all night and that combo can handle almost anything. Snow camping is pretty easy, camping in the rain generally sucks imo. I avoid that if I can.
  2. Uploading the podcast didn’t work. The recording device ran out of batteries during the outro music, maybe that created an issue. I tried to do it my typical way from the SD card through my phone, I’ll try with the desktop tonight, but there’s a chance the episode is lost and will have to be redone. If so, I might try to find time this weekend to do it. If anyone is available and wants to join for the pod, DM me.
  3. We actually did another pod and n Saturday after the ANARC episode focused on winter camping and wheeling. We did it since Gus and I were both at the studio and planned to release it later. I’ll put it out tonight since it’s a relevant topic on the forum lately
  4. I appreciate the kind words. Being new to this whole thing, Gustav and I blindly hope the podcast is entertaining, informative, and inspiring to fellow club members while not really knowing what we are doing. Our goal is to try to keep everyone in the loop as to what’s going on with the club and keep people interested in the club and our events. It’s hard to tell how it’s going from the eye of the storm, but we really appreciate your feedback and it motivates us to keep it going and to make improvements.
  5. We put out a new podcast today. Mike McCaig and Brice Fowler join Gustav and me and talk about ANARC. ANARC is a larger Land Rover organization that our club is contemplating joining. They explain the general organization and also their big event coming up this summer to commemorate Land Rovers 75th anniversary. If you haven’t, also check out our previous episode where Paul and Will join me and recap the AZLRO event and the recent MORG to Lost Coast.
  6. Just a heads up, those pretty much take all day to heat up. They have small heating elements meant to mostly maintain hot rather than heat up cold water. So start the generator early
  7. Thanks for coming by Paul! Also thanks to Will for making his second appearance on the pod. If anyone else wants to join in, let me know. Recapping an event is always welcomed from guests, but we can go into any rover related topics.
  8. Also, I do have questions prepared for a Rover Feud game, but we do need some additional people to play. Anybody near San Jose around 1:30 is welcome to come hang out and join us. Dm or call/text me at 408-772-8534
  9. Paul will be joining the podcast tomorrow and will be recapping his trip to the AZLRO event. If anyone from the Lost Coast would like to join us and do a recap they would be more than welcome. Mario was originally scheduled, but could not make the trip due to COVID. DM, call, or text me at 408-772-8534
  10. We ended up having a weird technical difficulty. Our podcasting recorder died, or it never woke up. So we have a new machine coming tomorrow via Amazon and are going to to return the old broken machine later. We will reintroduce the concept soon.
  11. We are doing a podcast today. But it isn’t just any podcast. We are going to try a call in segment today. Gustav and I will be doing some normal pod stuff, but at precisely 4:30 we will be opening the phone lines and allow club members to call in. The podcast will be generally focused on winter. That means winter camping, winter wheeling, and winter projects. Call in at 4:30 to 5 if you’d like to chat about that or anything else. The call in number is 408-772-8534
  12. Another clean p38 today. This one is stock, but super clean. How many P38’s can I spot today? I’m trying to snap a pic of all of them today.
  13. Getting some breakfast behind this P38 equipped with sliders and steel frond bumper, sliders, roof rack, and a canine navigator. My kind of rover
  14. Baofeng UV-5R Two Way Radio Dual Band 144-148/420-450Mhz Walkie Talkie 1800mAh Li-ion Battery(Black) https://a.co/d/fLA7XZw pick up one of these. They work great for trails since you don’t need a ton of range.
  15. The Annual Recap pod is out. Will and Sasha join me along with Sasha’s kids to go over the event. We ran out of time to go over the raffle, but we did hit most of the other things. We also got to play a new game for the pod, Rover Feud!! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/nclr-after-dark/id1615586586?i=1000582759412
  16. We will be doing an Annual recap podcast next Saturday. We are looking to have a member who attended the event join us for the recap. So if you were at the event and would join us in San Jose for the recording, DM me.
  17. I’m out, sorry guys. Merlyn isn’t feeling great. A longer than normal gap between dialysis plus a tiring few days has taken its toll.
  18. Capitola Freelander looks at home near the beach
  19. Merlyn and I will be coming home from Monterey on Thursday. We would stop by on the way home if it ends up happening Thursday evening.
  20. Got home around 4:30 today. Another fun Annual event. The trail run was a successful one. No breaks or any mechanical issues. Didn’t hit any traffic on the trail either. We made good time and got to play on several optional obstacles and lines. It’s always fun to watch people challenge themselves and their vehicles. Even though we had plenty of drivers getting out of their comfort zone and trying some hard lines, we didn’t have any obstacle or line win. Every attempt was eventually completed without needing recovery. Looking forward to seeing the pics and vids.
  21. People can organize a run for Sunday while we are there if they are so inclined. We will all be running the same trail, in the same fashion like last year.
  22. Just wanted to go over some last minute info on the trail run Saturday. The plan will be the same as last year, we will be running Bald Mountain. We will plan on leaving camp and heading toward the trail at 10am. Camp (Dinkey Creek Campground) is close to the forest road (Rock Creek Rd) that we need to take to get to the trail, so folks coming up Saturday morning should still meet us at camp. The alternative would be to meet at the intersection of Dinkey Creek Rd and Rock Creek Rd about 10:15-10:30. The trail should eat up most the day but will depend on how many detours we take to challenge ourselves as this trail has a lot of optional stuff. We will be using ham radio frequency 146.460. Any stragglers can catch up to us on trail. The trail should be available on Gaia and all the other electronic map things. I’ll include a pic of the trail. We will be following the route direction in the pic.
