  1. Back home one day early for Easter.   Fantastic trip, kudos to Miles.   The EMHT is a trail like no other.  I highly recommend this trail for any Land Rover and skill level of driver.    I ended up traveling over 400 miles off road over the course of 7 days and 6 nights.  I left with wonder and appreciation of the hardship endured by those early settlers and miners.  Here is a sample of pictures from my phone.  Pics from my Canon R5 will follow over the coming days..

In preparation for the EMHT (Eastern Mojave Heritage Trail) trip with Snowflake I needed a (better) way to carry fuel.

    • Problem Statement 1: I don't like plastic cans, the expand a ton, I break them. etc.
    • Problem Statement 2: Personally I like the robustness of 20L NATO cans, but they are heavy, bulky, and I have tiny T-rex arms. 2nd Rotopax are expensive and also can be an odd form factor (and see above).
    • Problem Statement 3: Snowflake has never had a dedicated fuel storage solution

In the past, I typically just tossed a random diesel can on the roof half-cocked with some ratchet straps and called it a day. ..

Hey it worked and led to some fun discussions at the gas station about how rare diesel RRCs are. : - ). Many of those discussions were with by-standers WHILE i was pumping Premium ; ).

For this trip, I made it a point to figure out what I wanted.

    Enter the 10L Jerry Can.

    • Roughly about half the size, I can carry two with 10L each. (~2.64 gallons for the uncivilized)
    • My tiny T-rex arms can carry and manuever the smaller cans without spillage, to much exertion etc.
    • Never, have I been on a trip where I needed to carry 10 gallons extra (yet).

Sadly, I could not find any great stowage solutions for the 10L... However, there is a LR3 that always parks nearby with a Baja Rack and a Baja Jerry can holder.

    Just the inspiration I needed.

An order was placed for the older 10L U.S. style cans. I may switch to more expensive NATO Wavians in the future, but for now, this was to be a "low" cost experiment.

Here is a sequence from 5 years ago running SW from the area near Fort Piute to the Leiser-Ray mine. This was part of the joint NCLR/AZLRO Mojave Road run. On our EMHT trip, we will be running in the opposite direction. As you can see, it's pretty much rustic whoops. Great scenery.
