Making some progress putting my truck back together. Scary find today - one of the massive cables wired straight from the battery to the winch had been rubbing the steering linkage and had worn through the insulation in one spot. Lucky it was the ground (I think)!

Planning ahead this time, got my truck just about set for the Rubicon. Just need to put on the rear axle, and a new clutch, and the transmission, and re-gear the transfer case…

New fire today near Markleeville, Grover Hot Springs. They have evacuation orders out for Markleeville, and looks like they cancelled the Markleeville Death Ride bicycle thing. We may not be able to get down there from Reno, will have to see in the morning. Could possibly come across 89 to 4 if Rt 88 is closed. Fires. Sigh.

Not sure whether Leigh Anne and I will camp over Sat night, but we’ll throw stuff in the 110 just in case. If we do stay over we’ll just sleep in the truck, so we’ll be able to pull into/next to anyone’s site wherever that might be.
Planning on stopping for lunch before starting the trail in Downieville, or should we just load the cooler?

Leigh Anne and I are in, planning to drive down on Friday and meet up wherever. Just looking to have a nice trip, probably drive up some trails/canyons, possibly stop/camp at one of the hot springs to swim or soak. Would be nice to be able to leave our tent and stuff at one place for a day or so so we wouldn’t need to pack each morning.

Brand New Safety Devices Rack for sale
Adding to the DV post because if someone wanted this it will be on my truck for the trip and we could swap it to another truck if someone wanted it. Just put it on my 110 and decided I want a longer rack. This one fits 90’s or 110’s. $1700 as shown, the post in the for sale forum has more pictures and details. And by the way - another vote for Gwynn Lewis. It’s worth welding on the diff guards!

Leigh Anne and I have made a refundable booking at the Best Western Greenwell Inn from 9/9 to 9/18. We stayed at this hotel last Sept. Location is great, in the middle of town so walkable to all restaurants etc. Cost about $220/night for the refundable rate if you join the Best Western rewards program. We would really prefer to stay with other members of the club, whether that’s camping or whatever. Just booked this to have something set.
A little south of this hotel is the Canyonlands RV and campground. That’s where the Oxford in America group stayed last fall. They have tent sites, little cabins and RV sites available. It is reasonably walkable to the center of town, a possible place if we wanted to get our group all together. Not sure of the cancellation policy though.
Would be great if there’s a consensus on a hotel/campground for club members.

FYI - I had Stockton Wheel make a set of 16x7’s by welding centers from stock 5 1/2†wide wheels into wider barrels. They said they could not make the stock 16†centers into 17†wheels because there weren’t any barrels that would work with the 16†centers. Doubt they could turn 15’s into 17’s.

Valves seem fine. Only damage beside the cam was 2 bent pushrods.

Leigh Anne and I are heading out from Reno on Thursday, will be in Moab Thursday night or Friday morning/lunch. We have a little cabin booked at the Canyonlands RV park on the south side of town. We’re looking forward to making a couple of runs or preruns on Saturday and Sunday.
