Back home one day early for Easter.   Fantastic trip, kudos to Miles.   The EMHT is a trail like no other.  I highly recommend this trail for any Land Rover and skill level of driver.    I ended up traveling over 400 miles off road over the course of 7 days and 6 nights.  I left with wonder and appreciation of the hardship endured by those early settlers and miners.  Here is a sample of pictures from my phone.  Pics from my Canon R5 will follow over the coming days..

    ***OFFICIAL MILES WYNN APPRECIATION POST***
Let me explain. I’ve been home for 24 hours. I needed to leave a few miles early because of family needs. Wife at home with our energetic boys for 6 days alone. Having checked in with her on Night 5, I could hear in her voice it was time. I knew what I needed to do and what it meant. I would have to tell our leader that I was hitting pavement.

Having traveled together with Group 1 since Sunday and in the Convoy the day before, I definitely felt a sense of commitment to you all and if there was a way I could have seen it through, believe me I would have.

I’m a new member. This was my second outing with the Club. I’d made Shaver in February and knew an extended overland trip is what I needed. I had actually been planning a trip through Mojave Road right around the time the pre-run happened. So it was serendipity that the Club was organizing EMHT. I jumped on registration as soon as it opened having no idea what to really expect. But after months of planning, spending, and over-analyzing, it was time to join the Convoy down in Gilroy.
Upon meeting Miles for the first time Saturday morning, he radiated passion for this lifestyle of ours and I was admittedly expecting someone much older! There. I said it. I can’t explain why but I just had a vision of some salty Rover die-hard leading me across the desert for a week. I’m grateful it was him instead.

It was evident to me that he had invested an enormous amount of time and energy of his voluntarily planning this trip, for us, so we would all enjoy an epic adventure. The planning, the attention to detail, the effort to share the knowledge from the books, the commitment to the groups. That doesn’t just happen. That takes someone willing to put in the work. Someone that wants the best experience for everyone he’s leading. From Mike and Leanne all the way to Biko the Adventure Dog, he wanted the best for us all. And I for one truly appreciate what it must have taken.
I’d like to think I made some great new Club friends out there walking around the mines and Joshua Trees of the EMHT. Thanks to Miles Wynn and all those that helped organize and guide the trip! Cheers to you my friend. We had an unforgettable time. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

And I forgot. We are GO for Convoy. Leaving Napa at 5:30ish to get to you in Gilroy by 7:30 for a splash of fuel and go. I'll be on the ham and will call or text if something comes up.

    Am I overpacked? I feel overpacked…and I don’t even have tool chests!

Bay Area Convoy Details - Saturday April 9th:
Alright folks here is the current plan.
South Bay Meetup in Gilroy @ Starbucks (*audible groan*)  Starbucks, 6865 Camino Arroyo, Gilroy, CA 95020 7:45AM Departure to Needles Several gas stations in the area. Tractor Supply was my go-to, but seems they do not open until 10AM... Depart Gilroy Starbucks at 7:45AM Achieve Blister speed of 60MPH before hitting Pacheco Pass. Feel free to begin guessing maximum speed for a 1990 Range Rover Classic up Pacheco... Hint: It is faster than the grade up to Tehatchapi Hit I-5 and accelerate to Maximum Plaid (~65-70mph) Arrive in Bakersfield around 12:15-1:00PM if our Paso folks want to intercept. Hopefully glide into Needles around 5PM (accounting for food, bio-stops, gas) I will be monitoring 146.460 on the radio.

Camping condition from the 2021 trip. This is where I got stuck the night before and this is where we camped.

This event was also notable for being one of the very few times where 4x Maxtrax actually came to the rescue in getting me out. I’ve carried them ever since. They were also useful to avoid my ladder sinking into the snow.
