I was thinking of running Bald Mountain the 3rd weekend of January (Jan 21st trail run but likely camping the entire weekend depending on snow conditions and interest). If we do end up camping we would likely camp at Camp Edison or dry camp just off Dinkey Creek Rd. I'm hoping to get some of the offroaders and overlanders from UCM to join and I've got Reid (silver TRD truck from 2022 Annual Snow Run), and some other UCM people interested. It will be a more beginner trip as I've got to learn how to snow wheel the LR3. Anyone interested in coming or camping that weekend?

Up in Shaver Lake they have snow parks along the roads with cheap parking and usually pre made sled runs from local kids

Well, hate to join the bandwagon of those not attending but we will not be joining you all this weekend.
Hopefully soon Oliver and I can run our LR3's together on a trail.

Soooo this is my first time at Oceano Dunes (crazy I know!) but have camped at and traversed Ocotillo Wells down south.
Some questions:
-Do we need to bring firewood or is this disallowed?
-I have ordered flags for our vehicles, what is the best way to mount them on an LR3?
-Can we set up camp with awnings and tables and leave them for the day or do we need to pack up while we explore?
-Anything extra we need to bring since rain is forecasted for the weekend?
Much thanks.

My buddy back out now the debate is lr3 or army truck.
Both! Put the LR3 in the bed of the army truck. This way you have the mothership and the light attack vehicle!

I'm planning on leaving from Merced mid day on Friday (if all goes well) and hope to be at camp a little before sunset if anyone would like to caravan from the central valley (I'm open to leaving at any time on Friday and can meet anywhere along 99). Unfortunately the D2 is gone and so ill be taking an LR3 down

I'm in! Hopefully the rest of my family and a few friends will join with me.
So it looks like I (Oliver)will be taking the LR3 down and my dad will be taking down the LR4 with hopefully my sister(s) as well! If anyone is in the Merced/Modesto/Fresno area I will likely leave that Friday and would be up for a convoy heading down.

Does the spot we get matter? or is it a ticket to simply camp on the beach somewhere?

Heading out from Merced in the next hour or so, will have my radio on and at worse case can be contacted at 650-918-9823. Hope to be there before 6/7pm.

Will there be a trail run on Sunday and or split groups going for difficult/easy trails?
-
Unfortunately it will just be me (Oliver) making it as midterms have scared away all the engineering majors. But will be bringing the D2! I plan on going down on Friday and leaving Sunday. I can also take spare passengers if need be.
-
I will be attending! My dad and one of my siblings will be out of town, hoping on convincing a few friends in college to join so we will see how that turns out. I will snag 82 if y'all don't mind.
-
Oliver: I should be able to make it and hope to bring the D2 if I can get out of work on the 9th (will go late on the 8th and head out early on the 10th) My dad won't be able to so only 1 vehicle this time
My first choice would be Big sur, and second be Corral Hollow, and unfortunately have been to Hollister quite frequently making it #3
Edit: (Oliver) I got the time off of work and would like to change my #1 to Corral Hollow as I can now do a weekend trip rather than a day trip. I plan on taking Amelia and possibly a friend or 2.

Now that we are starting to really get into winter wheeling mode with these storms coming up, I thought it would be a good time to get us thinking about this trip. This is always a really fun trip for all levels of Rovers and is always a unique trip depending on the snow conditions.
Where: Camp Edison Campground and running the Bald Mountain Trail
When: February 19-21
The plan will be to run the trail on Saturday. So people can come up either Friday and camp, or drive up early on Saturday and meet us near the trail.
(edited for length)
Is anyone interested in doing a different trail run on Sunday in addition to Bald Mountain? I'm not sure if any are open nearby (if anyone knows any please lmk).

Oliver just booked Campsite #239 for the 18th-21st! We plan on bringing 1-3 cars so the kids can learn how to drive.

Ack! Me and Oliver would love to go but Oliver's spring break is the last week of March!

Was a fun trip! We had a blast and we are currently working on the plans for the Shaver Annual. Sorry to see your rear diff in pieces.

We are leaving in the next 10-20 minutes and in the need of contact Oliver's phone number is 650-918-9823.

Are we having a campfire at wherever we decide to camp? We have some wood we can bring as well as a propane fire pit. We plan on leaving San Mateo around 7:30-7:45

Oliver and I are going taking the Disco 2. Planning for staying the night but if its too cold or we don't get too far we may drive home at night. We are leaving from San Mateo.

I'm in! just had a failed attempt there to go there today (P0118 and U2023 practically disabling the car), with the Toyota guys. They report good conditions similar to last years, with a few LRs and 4Runners there today. I do have a group of friends who will likely join, and as long as the car runs we will be there.
