Thanks to Miles for keeping it all together and coordinating a new venue. I had a great time and it was good to see everyone again.

Just got here. I would go to grab a table but it looks like that won’t be much of an issue.

    See you all soon!

    Good news!

I called and Alpine Inn will be open Sunday.

They don't expect the Coronovirus to strike until the work week, thus they are open tomorrow and then will be closing for a two week period.

See you all there. Leave your coronas at home.

A little more when idling, but that’s it. Nothing I’d notice if I weren’t paying attention

Mr.BlueSky reacted to mepienta in Hood Louver Installation RRC
I finally decided to do something to reduce under hood temperatures and ordered some louvers from RodLouvers.com. Price was very reasonable at around $119 including shipping and tax. Base, clear, reducer and catalyst was purchased from usa.specialistpaints.com and was 1/3 the price of my local source.

Overall I’m happy with the result and was surprised at the large volume of air coming out of louvers , even at engine idle speed. I would have done this years ago but couldn’t find louvers I liked or that were reasonably priced.

Schools are now closed in Santa Clara county and my three kids will be home for at least three weeks. I’ll need this DitD to prepare. Nida and will be coming and possibly a rugrat or two.

It's that time of the month again where we all gather to drip oil and break rovers bread.

Join us this month at the Alpine Inn in Portola Valley!

If you haven't been, this is certainly a local favorite with outdoor seating.

We haven't been over this direction for few, so this should be fun!

Where: 3915 Alpine Road, Portola Valley, CA 94028

    Honestly, I got nuthin.

I sadly have to admit I've never had the heads off a Rover engine so I'm not going to be a lot of help.  But in general, as you pull it apart you should see what comes off and what you'll need from the kit to put it back.

    (ahem)

    How hard can it be?

Had I known they were coming in today I would have driven the truck into work

Looks great. Sorry we couldn’t make it.

We got as far as Livermore before my L322 transmission threw a fault code and went into limp mode. I drove home stuck in third gear and proceeded to tackle the technical issue with my new found spare time once I got home.

Apart from getting oil everywhere, getting the ZF transmission diagnosed and apart was not too challenging for someone who has never done it before. The transmission is common to many car brands and there’s some good advice online.
I learned that removal and disassembly of the mechatronic unit is quite straight forward. Let’s hope that my root cause analysis is correct and she’s back on the road soon.

I’ll write up my findings in a later Tech Talk post.

So it looks like now I'm out too.  I've got a tiny bit of a head cold.  In other words, I've totally got the corona virus and will bring death and destruction to all who come within 1 mile of me.  Or maybe it's just a small cold like everybody gets every year, but let's be honest with ourselves, global pandemic is far more likely isn't it?

Regardless, our man Jamie has agreed to lead so no fear - we're still on and you don't have to die from exposure to my horrible virus!

After I pass, please bury me in my Rover on the Rubicon.  Somewhere near the overlook would be nice.

Mr.BlueSky reacted to Elherbinator in Looking for LIFT KIT suggestion for our D2
The gears would be referring to the axle gears, specifically the ring and pinion gears in the differentials. By going from stock (3.56:1 I think) to 4.11:1, it will increase the torque at the wheels. Really common and necessary upgrade with any Offroad vehicle when adding larger tires and weight. Most Offroad shops can handle it or you can find some specialty shops like Rear End Specialists in Santa Clara. Most shops can order you the new Ring and Pinion gears as well as the bearings and seals needed. Otherwise GBR in Utah is a good supplier. They can also ship you differentials that are prebuilt. Ashcroft also sells them directly and probably most of the major parts companies will carry them. I am certain that regearing will help resolve your issue or at least improve it quite a bit. While you are in there it is also a good time to consider other axle upgrades to save on future labor. So if adding a locker or HD shafts are in the plans it would be a good time to do it since that stuff will be getting taken out anyways. Upgrading the axles is probably the most important thing you can modify on an Offroad vehicle. Building up an axle isn’t cheap, but you will get some very tangible improvements in both traction and power

The 4.0l doesn’t have a ton of power, but your issue with going up hills may be as simple as a regear. If you’re running stock gears with larger tires and a bunch of extra weight then you will struggle up hills even with the 4.6l. Maybe consider going to 4.11’s or something similar.
