  1. Back to Signal Peak we go!

Who: Anyone with a stock rover can make this trail, depending on who is attending and what vehicles they bring will determine our route as there are a couple ways to do it. So make it known if you are going and I'll update this post as a plan forms.

What: A trip up to the top of Signal Peak and the site of a C.P.R.R. Railroad Lookout. The trip can be done as a day trip or as a weekend overnight. The plan will be to run the trail in a counterclockwise fashion (up the easy side, down the hard) as we will have some more modern stock trucks and vehicles without front or rear lockers in our group.

    When:

    • Daytrippers: Saturday 10:00
    • Overnighters: We can plan on camping Friday and Saturday nights.

    Where:

[Daytrippers] Plan to meet at the Lucky's Travel Plaza gas station in Cisco Grove for a 10:00AM departure Saturday morning.

    • 90 Cisco Rd, Soda Springs, CA 95728

[Campers] For those headed up Friday, plan to camp here just off the beginning of the Fordyce Trail - Saturday morning we will work our way over to the Travel Plaza to pick up the day trippers.

    Communication:

    • We will be on 146.460 per usual.
    • My cell is 402.741.0231 if you need to get a hold of me.

    Some reading on the trail:

  2. Just got in to Golden Pines.

when you roll in stop by the front office for a vehicle hang tag. Just let them know you are with the rover group. You’ve already been checked in.

Bears have been a bit of a problem, so food/coolers/fridges need to stay in vehicles overnight.

Trash has to be in the bin by 6pm before they do rounds and collect it.

    Fires out by 10pm.

The communal campfire will be held at site 114 to help keep audible space between the RV park folks and our group.

    see everyone soon!

  3. The Rivian did really well. Granted, the most technical bit was the last bit down to the lake. (Sparsely scattered small boulders).

Really nothing of a challenge at all. The R1T had plenty of ground clearance and almost double that of Snowflake's-diff-to-ground.

Trip from Truckee to White Rock takes about 45-60 minutes depending on how fast you take the washboards.

We entered from Truckee and exited through Bowman, with the regenerative braking, Dan only consumed 7% of the pack capacity. In contrast, Snowflake sucked down 25% of a tank of fuel. So the Classic was once again more range limited than an EV.
