Elherbinator Posted June 30, 2021 Report Share Posted June 30, 2021 Last year we had our Annual plans go up in flame both literally and figuratively. We had planned on having it at Lakeshore Resort at Huntington Lake, but the Big Creek Fire that started last Labor Day quickly exstinguished those plans. Luckily for Lakeshore, they narrowly avoided the flames and generally survived the disaster. They are still working on some clean up and getting power back soon, but things are in motion and they plan to be open at some point this summer and plan on accommodating us for our Annual this year. So the basic plan will be to have the Annual at Lakeshore Resort from October 8-10. October 11th (Monday) is Columbus Day, so maybe some can extend their stay through then. We are going to reserve their RV area for members to camp in, but there are also cabins you can rent at Lakeshore and motels rooms available nearby at China Peak Ski Resort and Tamarack Motor Lodge down the road. In addition to the many trail runs we will leading, the general area offers a lot of outdoor recreation. There are tons of hiking trails leading to vistas and lakes all around the surrounding area. Boat rentals can be had at Huntington Lake and Shaver Lake to enjoy water sports, fishing, or just cruising around and relaxing. There’s even a horse stable where you can take a guided ride around the lake And as far as the wheeling goes, this is my favorite area for that. There are tons of trails from mild to wild and they nearly all end at a pristine mountain lake. Stock rovers to fully built ones will be entertained and challenged.So mark off that weekend on your calendar! This will be an epic event and I’m excited to share the area and trail system with the club. If you’ve only been to the area for our annual snow run, then you really ought to check it out in the summer (or early fall ). Details on trail runs and other event stuff to come as we get closer to the event. Good question, the board will be holding an "emergency" meeting next week to discuss alternative annual plans. We don't plan to cancel!!!
