FYI, a few years ago I took the kids to Yosemite without reservations and was able to secure a tent-cabin by showing up before 8am at the office and waiting for the day's cancellation list.  First-come first serve and not a sure bet for certain, but if you are feeling lucky....

I plan to be there with Sebastian!
This will be the first time for Sebastian above the tree lines, and good experience to get him ready for Whitney. 😝

Note! For anyone planning to drive through Yosemite on Tioga Rd, you’ll need to have reservations for Yosemite NP.
    https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/reservations.htm
And plan for ~2hr drive (~70mi) from one end of Yosemite to the other. Most of the park roads are limited to 35mph.

    Procrastination kicked in...
So, here I am with more yosemite rez info:
The mandatory Entry ticket is good for 3 days. The site has 900 ticket now for July 10th (good for July 10-12 entry), and 400-some July 14th tickets (good for 14-16th).
Each ticket is $2/veh, limit is 1. This does not include park pass - if you have your national park pass, bring it. Your national park pass alone will not allow entry into Yosemite without the entry ticket when entry tickets are required.
Alternative is, you buy entry tickets for July 12 (good for July 12-14) on July 5th at 8am PT - 7 days before arrival date.
From https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/reservations.htm: "Additional reservations are available seven days before the arrival date (e.g., make a reservation for an arrival date of October 27 on October 20) at 8 am Pacific time on Recreation.gov. Reservations available one week in advance are a combination of reservations valid for full days or reservations valid for arrival only in the afternoon on the first day."

there is nothing inside yosemite that's avail for Thurs night. The Yosemite entry ticket is required between 5am - 4pm. So, plan your Yosemite arrival early/late enough so you can drive (a little under 2hrs) from one end the park to the other and camp just outside yosemite.
I'll try to leave SJ around noon on Thursday to avoid the entry ticket and camp just south of Lee Vining before dark.

NCLR member Paul D. (me) and former/erstwhile/satellite member Matthew J., along with a Toyota friend, made the climb up from Navajo Flat to the awesome camp site at the top of Forest Route 30S14 (AKA Pine Mountain Road/Trail) on June 19th -- 20th. Went up there 2 years ago when it became a night run after doing a little winching. No winching this time but lockers were engaged on a couple of sections. The fun part is only 3 miles, but it takes about 2 hours to run it.
Fabulous weather... Great camp fire conversation. Maybe going again in the Fall. Camp site can fit maybe 5 trucks.
    Cheers,
    Paul

Well, made it back home - ready to see the hand surgeon on Friday.

What an adventure - great people, great location, great heat - temperature and food.

Thanks again.  100% going next year.

Unfortunately, I'm out for this trip. It would have been a fun trip and will be for those attending. For sure. I just have to many things going on.

Well my latest PET scan and numbers came back and my little trespasser has unfortunately grown and spread so they are putting me back on the gnarly chemo starting next Tuesday (have been on a maintenance regimen which was not so debilitating), that basically wipes me out for at least a week, so I am going to have to bail.
Difficult to find the words to describe how bummed I am to miss this.
    Sorry mates.

So sorry to hear Jeff . Wishing for a speedy recovery.

So I do have a tour now on Saturday 11th in the afternoon so we'll be making a late night to get to camp. Also found out my nephew will be running in state championship for high school on Friday the 17th. So we'll have to cut my trip a little short and exit out on the 15th. So I can get my mom to the airport so she can go watch him run. Finally good news though I picked up a new Rover and can't wait to try it out off-road.

I was chatting with Jared, Chris and Paul and others about a potential Baja Mexico trip in April 2024 during the DRIP @ East Brothers Brewing today. There’s an interest to do an over-landing trip to Baja Mexico in 2025.
Leave the Bay Area Saturday, camp on the US border side for the night, drive across the border to Mexico Sunday, and spend the next 5 days in Baja, drive back Sat and make our way to the US border Sunday.
You will need a US Passport to get back, and a spirit of adventure during the trip.  What do you think?  Interested? Any questions!
