  1. Sounds like it was a nice and relaxing trip. If anyone would like to come recap the trip on the podcast, let me know. This is a new trip destination for the club as far as I know, so it would be cool to get a good, detailed run down of how it went.
  2. We may be a bunch of rock crawlers and overlanders, but we car people at the heart of it. Car people like to drive. So we are going to have some fun driving! We are going to have a 2 round go karting competition! The friendly competition will be a 2 round event with the first round being split up between the Bay Area and Sacramento. On March 25th we will be meeting up at K1 Speed in Santa Clara and Sacramento. The exact parameters of the competition will depend on how many people we have who can commit to participating and whether that is enough for us to schedule a private party. “Winners” will have the opportunity to compete in the Final at the K1 Speed in Fairfield in April. Winners of the Final will receive some yet to be determined prizes. Please let us know if you are interested in participating. We haven’t set a time of day because that may be dependent on whether we have a private party or not. So it’s important for us to get a relatively accurate number of participants. Please post on this thread if you plan to come.
  3. Shaver Snow Run Recap podcast is now out. Come listen to our recap of the stuckfest, sendfest, and winch destruction that made up the Shaver trip this year. And please, rate and review us on whatever platform you are listening to us on. We are never going to overtake Rogan without it!
  4. I would guess they would use a standard axle. Looks like a driver side drop Dana axle from the pics.
  5. This is looking like it’ll be a snowpocalypse kind of trip. Tons of snow in the forecast!
  6. Anybody from the trip want to do the podcast and help recap the trip? Podcasts are done in San Jose
  7. As with most snow runs, the front group and rear group both have stories and experiences completely separate from eachother. It ended up being a stuckfest for most the afternoon. Hopefully I can get some people to come do a recap of the trip for the pod. Calling on Don, Robert… anybody. Let me know
  8. Can I get a head count for the trip? If you’re coming, post it up here.
  9. I’d suggest some rain-x to let the rain drops fly right off, but I’m not sure the 88 goes fast enough for that 😂
  10. We don’t need a permit since we will be inside the campgrounds. But as Miles directed, might as well grab one for the year online
  11. Forecasts this far out aren’t the most accurate, but it’s promising to see some snow potential. Btw, I use Huntington Lake instead of Shaver for weather on Bald Mountain because it’s closer in elevation and in the same general area
  12. Ok, but I don’t see the Army Truck being able to run the actual trail. It will be way too big for us to recover and the trail will be too narrow. You’d probably have to cut new tire tracks the whole way. Getting that stuck could clog the trail in a way that would be irresponsible for the club.
  13. Anybody who hasn’t gotten a spot, but wants to come and camp, post up your request for a shared spot in this thread. Should have several spaces that people can fit you in. My spot was $80 for 2 nights, I imagine most were, so expect the split to be $40 at 2 vehicles per spot.
  14. Spotted this D2 in the trailer for the movie Knock at the Cabin. There are also some interior shots in the trailer so it must be featured several times in the movie. Even looks to have an ARB bumper. It’s an M. Night Shamalan movie coming out in February
  15. I would suggest people reserve their own spots while they are available since they are very limited at this point. Probably only a handful left. Once they gone, then we can start sharing and splitting fees. It would be unfortunate to not have enough space for everyone if they sell out.
  16. Link to Camp Edison: https://www.camplife.com/314/reservation/step1
  17. I have reserved spot #224 at Camp Edison. I suggest everyone reserve theirs as soon as possible as there are only 9 additional spots left. If you’re coming, reserve your spot and then we can figure out sharing if needed, but it would be best if we could grab up all the remaining vacant spots now.
  18. It’s time to break out your winter camping and wheeling gear. The Annual Shaver Lake Snow Run is coming up in a month. This is one of my favorite trips of the year. It’s always fun and always unique. This year should be a good one. We will have plenty of snow even if it doesn’t snow an inch from today until the trip. Maybe we will get lucky and have some fresh stuff to play with. Either way, it’s trip I suggest you don’t miss. The trip will take place over Presidents Day weekend (feb 18-20). We will be running the trail Sunday which will be the Bald Mountain Trail we do at this every year and we also have done at the last couple Annuals in October. Most people will be coming up Saturday and camping Saturday and Sunday nights, then heading home Monday. Day trippers are welcome as well. You will just have to meet us Sunday morning at either Camp Edison or near the trail on Rock Creek Rd. The plan will be to leave camp at 9am Sunday, so plan accordingly. We will be camping at Camp Edison on highway 168 just past the town of Shaver Lake. Campers will need to reserve their own spot. Most spots can accommodate a couple vehicles, so sharing is encouraged. Camp Edison is about as comfortable as you can get for winter camping. They have power hookups incase you want to bring a space heater or an electric blanket. They have heated bathrooms as well and even cable tv hookups for the rvs. It’s as close to glamping as we get for this club, so if you have a spouse or child who is nervous about camping in the snow, this will be as user friendly as it will get, so break them in on this trip. The trail itself varies greatly year to year. Some years the snow is so deep that we only get a few hundred yards all day. Some years there’s barely any and we just cruise up to the top of the mountain in a few hours. Most years it’s somewhere in between. This is trip is open to all vehicles, but the deeper the snow gets the tougher it is for the closer to stock vehicles. Keep your vehicle light, your tires aired down, and you will give yourself and your vehicle the best chance of success. Here are some links of some videos montages of previous Annual Shaver Lake Snow Runs to give you a taste of what to expect. Please let me know what you think about the dates and any other questions or concerns you might have.
  19. Episode 14 is up. Don and Greg come and hang out. We drink beer, we drink whisky, we talk rovers. Like, subscribe, rate, review, etc Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Pleas come down! Not only will I give you a Koozie, but I will provide you dinner and a place to sleep. As one of my favorite folks in the club, I am willing to bribe your ass to get you to come down and visit
  21. As the Rovicon Swag Master (title I just made up) and host of the pod, I figured I needed to get something going. So here we have koozies for Tall Cans since our beer sponsor (East Brother Beer Co) only cans in tall. Guests of the pod will leave with a koozie or two and also anybody who I run into that wants one can have one.
