Out of the loop for a while

Safe arrival home about 1630 after a long day driving and some shopping. Thanks Will and Leigh for the great trip. You guys are awesome trail companions. Nancy and I had a great time! And thanks to all who were glued to our SPOT and APRS web pages and following our progress.

Over the next few days I'll be removing the 1/16 inch of dust from the inside of the truck and the 1/8 inch of mud from the outside of the truck, writing a trip report and posting some pictures. A short summary:

Long drive,

ate well,

conquered Dismal Swamp,

moved trees,

drove a variety of easy to moderate trails,

got lost a few times,

stopped by more trees than we could move (again),

found spectacular views,

ate ice cream,

discovered new and interesting places to explore,

long drive home.

:D:D

Safe at home but not without a detour

Left Shady Cove 8:00AM with noice in front end. On the way home, I had to make an unscheduled stop at Cerrones for Shrek. (3:30PM) Actually I limped in and just made it. Front drive shaft siezed.... Frank made a quick swap with a DII shaft, noise instantly gone. However I decided to leave Shrek for a few days to tune up for the CON..... Fortunately Frank was finishing up with my LR3, so I swapped out my camping gear and headed home in luxury and comfort... Made it home around 6:30PM. Just finished showing family slide show of trip. I plan on posting lots of pics in the next couple of days. My son can't wait for me to take him camping. ;) He kept wanting to see pictures of Dericks Cave.........

Nice photos, Leigh. Glad you got a picture of the bear.

Prize if anyone (other than Brian and Will) can tell me what the 4th and 5th pictures are.

I think the only other main witness to these locations doesn't check the forum anymore. Maybe Ron, Dan or Carlos can come through. (Enough hints, already!)

Brian called out over the Radio, Bear to the right. I slowed down opened the window and grabbed the camera all the while trying to see if I could find the bear. To my surprise I saw him looking at me.

Fantastic! Wild life in action.

I know I have been away WAY TOO long. Funny how life get's in the way...

I really wish I could have been part of this year's trip, looks like fun (albeit a bit less challenging without the snow!)

So Leigh, looks like the little tree we had to cut down didn't grow back :(

My new job has me on the road a lot (Phoenix, Seattle, Dallas, Minn, Detroit) but it should calm down soon. I hope to be able to make at least one trip this summer and Oregon next year.

I am really thankful to Brian for taking the lead and keeping the tradition going.

I will do my best to stop by here more often (couldn't be less - right!)
