Who wants to offroad Sept 24 & 25?

Recommended Posts

My brother will be in town, and I WILL finish the D-90 in time.  Does anybody want to hit the trails for the weekend?  Open to suggestions for trails.  Maybe anything off of hwy 88 or hwy 4.  Can stage at the winery Friday night if needed.

Hi Stefano,

I am interested but can't promise. My friends will be in town that weekend and we are (group of guys) also planning to go out camping in wild and may be hit some decent trails(nothing to test the rover like but scenic trails with moderate difficulty).

I will follow this topic and will update you next week.

I'm also interested but after coming back from the Sierra trip the week prior to Sept 24th and still having to do some stuff for OktRoverFest, I probably have to politely decline...  Thanks for posting it though!

I'm pretty much right there with Jared. Heading out this weekend, then next weekend I need to prep for OktRoverFest, then the next IS ORF. And sometime in there I have to actually work.

Work is over rated.

Here is the changing plan so far.  Wheeling off of Hwy 4.  Deer valley (open section, up to the creek and back) on Saturday morning.  Camp at Deer creek trailhead or near Slick Rock.  Run Slick Rock and Sour Grass on Sunday.  Can meet people in Murphy's or camp Friday night at Avio Vineyards in Sutter Creek.  Have 2 trucks going right now and anticipate a small group.

"Hey, mom, as a special Birthday treat I've arranged a really fun off-road trip for you.  Starts at a Vineyard."   Sounds perfect Enrique.  She'll be thrilled ....

Regards,

Graeme

You know, I think my Mom would go for that!  Well, minus the vineyard part.  She's not much of a drinker, but she has ridden her motorcycle cross country.

I found out that an off-road club will be camping up in Deer Valley Fri and Sat night.  So as not to run into them on the trail; we changed the schedule.  Sat morning, leave Avio at 8am.  Can meet at Murphy's Village Mart (138 CA-4, Murphys, CA 95247) at 9am.  Run Slick Rock at 10am.  Then option to do Sour Grass depending on time.  Camp end of Sour Grass trail or at Slick Rock.  Run Deer creek on Sunday, and then head back.  Possible stop in Murphys on the way back to grab some beers and pizza at that place I like. :D

I may try and make part of this trip. At the earliest, I would come up Saturday night or possibly Sunday morning. The only issue would be a ton of driving Sunday if we drove out, then hit the trails and then drive home. Kids have soccer on Sat until 3:30 and then it is a 2.5 hr trip to Sour Grass day use area or 3 hrs to slick rock depending on where u guys decide to camp. Keep me posted.

It is raining there today. Hope it doesn't mess up the trails too bad.

That camping spot at the end of Sourgrass is one of the best I've seen with the rapids/waterfall dumping into the swimming hole.

Weather looks perfect up there for the weekend.  The recent snow and light rain maybe knocked down some of the dust.  I heard that the end of Sour Grass was a great place to camp.  I was there a few years ago and remember the rope hanging off the granite wall next to the swimming hole.

Changing meeting place for Saturday morning.  Will meet at Nicks' cabin at 9:30 am.  Not sure if he is offering coffee or donuts, but he is close to the trailhead.  2206 Shoshone Drive, Camp Connell, 95223.  Will still stop by Murphys Village Mart on the way up around 9am to pick up some fuel.

If Nick has the time, I'd GLADLY chip in for some coffee and donuts!

Sounds good. I am planning on staying at Nick's Saturday night as we will probably not get to Arnold until 7pm. We can meet up for the trail run Sunday morning, which sounds like Deer Creek. Too bad we can't make it all the way to Blue Lakes and head home from there.

Fun crazy day. Kinda disappointed with forward progress as I bent my steering arm to about 60 degrees. Deer Valley is one of the toughest trails I have been on. My sliders got abused!

After taco'ing my steering arm, Graham busted out a torch and heated it to red hot and we were able to bend it back close to straight. I was amaxed and won't leave home without a torch!
