  1. Ha! Thanks man. It was great running with the group and my 7 yo had a ton of fun. Dad duty kept me from the campfire but another time. Sad to say I'm out of town for Bowman otherwise I'd be there charging hard out of those holes! Cheers.
  2. Once our nerves eased, yeah, we had a blast! Hi all. Chris here back in Napa with stories to tell my family. As everyone knows by now, this was my first trip with the club and honestly my first legitimate wheeling with the LR4. I know I thanked most of you, but for posterity, I want to really say a huge thanks to the guys and gal in the "first group". You all really went out of your way to share knowledge and were patient with me and my son as we doubted what we were capable of. Needless to say it was an eye-opening, and eye-popping day on the trail. I'm grateful. I know Eric should have some great vids of our 5! Should be entertaining. Gotta run. Need to go buy some armor! Cheers
  3. From a prior post it looks like Plan is to leave camp at 9:00 and get to staging around 9:45.
  4. Thanks buddy. My 7 yo took one look at the RTT and said he’s in for the weekend. Should be good!
  5. Nice! Curios is there any way to see sort of a roster of who’s in? Just wondering the rig count and whether I should even be mentioning to my non-club amigos.
  6. So I stumbled into a deal on a Scout trailer. I’m considering hauling it for the 1st Annual if I have family joining so I’m going to bring it this weekend for a sort of shakedown run and get to know it BUT I think it’s still just me and obviously have room to share! Welcome Are there any kids coming on this trip? Are kids allowed? I’ve got a 5 and 7 yo but they are undecided on snow camping.
  7. I think I know the answer, but good ol fashioned wood fires are allowed up there currently?
  8. I’ll be tent camping in my site, probably with one other person so should have room to share if you need a spot hit me up!
  9. Yeah I’m still curious about it. Still seems relatively under the radar.
  10. That's a well-developed itinerary. Thanks for developing this! Out of curiosity, which days provide for opportunity for water refill. Stated another way, how many "days" of water should we plan on carrying? Is registration opening on the 10th still?
  11. Is there likely to be a Bay Area caravan for the rigs headed up on Friday? There's zero precipitation currently for all February so whatever snow was up there from December will be it.
  12. Yeah buddy! Hamstudy FTW. Scored 35/35 today. And within two hours had my call sign KN6SNX. Guess I need to learn how to actually use a radio now lol
  13. Nice. I’m working through the hamstudy.org flashcards now and hope to have a Kenwood or Baofeng in time for Shaver. It’s definitely an overwhelming amount of technical stuff to learn.
  14. Anyone here know more about this event or participated? I just discovered it and don’t see much on their website about things like oh I don’t know, what do I get for $850?!? I mean, I assume it includes something more than just the 3 days of geocaching right? Anyone have intel? https://www.nevadatrophy.com
  15. Ok full noob question, and I never go full noob. From what I can tell this is mainly a HAM based club. Assuming I can make whichever dates are selected, are all participants expected to be HAM licensed for comms? I currently have no radio system so happy to pursue whichever system is mainly used on these adventures. Cheers, Chris
  16. Thanks for this info. I'm new to my LR4 on 265/65/18s and couldn't imagine going that low, especially with the load ratings etc.
  17. Woah this sounds amazing! Hoping the week works out. When do you all anticipate closing the survey and setting the dates?
  18. I was originally interested in the snow fest but I'm a D4 with 265/65/18s so not sure my tire size even qualified for their category of runs. Plus in reading the fine print on the fair grounds, it did indicate no car camping or tents, but trailers only. Not sure if that's the actual scenario at the fairgrounds or not, but that's they put online so that didn't work for me. Did others notice this or have some other experience with camping there?
  19. Such an outstanding write-up. I'd love to take my boys on their spring break this year if anyone is looking to organize a trip! 4/9-4/16
  20. Another Noob question having not been on an outing with this group. Snow camping. Do y'all camp in your rigs, RTTs, trailers, ground tents? All of the above? Just curious. I come from a ground tent camping background so figure KISS. Just curious how you are all set up.
  21. I checked out last years thread. So this trip is “ok” for the new guys with less off-road experience in their LR4s, aka me?
