  1. Sounds like another wonderful trip! Google photo album here for those that wish to upload: https://photos.app.goo.gl/xA5RMpHWReNkBGPJ9
  2. Last week Friday spotted Erin and Capt. Jack headed down the 17. Then on Saturday on the way back from Point Reyes spotted another enthusiast.
  3. We are out for this one due to family in town. Have fun everyone!
  4. Hey folks, been collecting some timing on T-shirt runs and patches, since we will need a bit longer to get these processed (in addition to managing the signups) we are going to close the poll on Wednesday April 5th at midnight and begin opening enrollment. So get your votes on!
  5. I'll post the gpx tracks we ran in the library and tag them here in the writeup - we lost power (again) so it will be a day or two before I can sit down long enough to get the weekend typed up.
  6. Well the trip was a success! We had a great time... more on that later, but all work and no play has made Johnny a dull boy. In the meantime, here is the club photos link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/SMFpaH9X23tRmecMA Let the uploads begin!
  7. 101 northbound near Samaria road is flooded and they have the Caltrans flood plows out
  8. Yeah the goal is to do a real fire, hopefully tonight, but for sure tomorrow as the weather looks like it will clear up. Thanks for the note on the road closure, will take 101 --> 41 --> La Panza. Unfortunately got left later than we hoped, had some electrical issues with snowflake on the auxiliary power side. Haven't figured out yet why B4 fuse is blowing, but managed to get the locker, phone chargers etc re-routed. Guess we won't have instrument background illumination on this trip :(. See everyone down there.
  9. Yep looks to be a bit drizzly. Should be absolutely gorgeous! Looks like Saturday and Sunday are the tail end of it, with only 40% chance of rain Saturday.
  10. Yeah, I tried to book this, but they did not have any openings this weekend. They did for next weekend! There are other times of the year where you can do a self-led tour with a permit.
  11. There is an old runway at the Goodwin Ranch... just divert the flight for an important pickup : )
  12. Carrizo Plains Trip Itinerary - A Rough Plan The goal of this trip is to setup a base camp Friday night at Selby Campground. Selby has vault toilets, firepits, and picnic tables. (No water or trash services - Pack it in, pack it out) Saturday and Sunday we can leave our camps setup and bop around the plains at our leisure. Departures Two Groups will leave from the Bay Area, an early afternoon and a late afternoon. Feel free to setup rendezvous points if necessary (I will add one for Group 1 folks if we gain more peeps), post up if you want to head down in a group. Group 1: 2:00PM Departure Miles, Theresa, Henry - Snowflake, RRC Group 2: 6:00PM? Departure Sasha? Robert? Itinerary Friday, March 10th - Home to Selby Campground Basecamp Approximately 4-4.5 hours from the South Bay Area Address: Selby Road, New Cuyama, CA 93254 Coordinates: 35.12792907702096, -119.84167814396167 Plan A - Camp at Selby Campground Plan B - Camp at KCL Campground Plan C - Dispersed Camping near KCL. Dispersed camping is not allowed on the plains, we will be headed up West a bit into the Hills if this happens. In all plans, I will have my cell and radio on. Reach out and we will find you. Or send a pigeon. Cell: 402.741.0231 Radio: 146.460 MHz . Saturday, March 11th - The Carrizo Plains Clockwise Tour! (Assuming we are at Selby Camp) 09:00 Camp Roll-out 09:20-10:30 Head up to the Goodwin Ranch Education Center (This is an excellent point to meet anyone coming down early Saturday morning) I've got a few questions of historical nature and to get the latest road conditions 10:30-11:30 Drive over and check out Saucito Ranch 11:30 -13:00 Lunch at Soda Lake and Viewing Area - 13:00-13:30 Wallace Creek Site and short trail... It's not my fault, but we gotta shake it up with a short walk. 14:30 - End - We will attempt to take the drive up Temblor Ridge Road, this is a primitive road so should be fun after all the rains, if this fails we will tour down along the maintained Elkhorn Road. Sunday, March 12th - Light Touring / Head Back For folks that wish to, we can swing over and check out the following: KCL Campground and Ranch Site (Kern County Land Co.) Van Matre Ranch - Wheat Harvests primarily Travers Ranch - A large collection of old implements Around noon or so, I expect folks will begin to trickle back up North on the roughly 4 hour drive. And bonus... if we can find Mary Wynne Nance Morris while we are out there... she has alluded me both times I've been down in the Monument. More on this if we find her. The above is just an outline, if we dawdle because we like something, or get ahead because it just didn't take so long, great! That is all part of the journey - it is your trip ; ).
  13. 1. April MORG is now Bowm 2. I don't know, the club-led trip will be Bowman. Eric, trip leader for Oceano, mentioned that the campsites there were already booked up. 3. Yes, dates will stay the same. I will be updating the calendar and post a April MORG event thread early next week at the latest.
  14. So that is the initial plan - I will work out a tentative route by Wednesday. Can I get a headcount of folks planning on attending and if they hope to head down Friday afternoon or Saturday morning?
  15. THE MARCH MORG HAS BEEN RE-ROUTED TO CARRIZO PLAINS DUE TO FORECASTED INCOMING SNOWSTORMS AFFECTING THE SIERRAS. DETAILS FOR RE-ROUTE CAN BE FOUND HERE:
  16. Due to the forecasted snowfall, we will be re-routing the March MORG down from the Sierras and onto the Plains - The Carrizo Plains. Where: Carrizo Plains National Monument https://goo.gl/maps/pP9Sw2n4YSJDSzAAA See attachments for some overview maps and information packets. When: Friday (optional), Saturday and Sunday March 10th - 12th What: A light overland-esque type weekend outing. Main activities and highlights will be: Cruising the neon green hillsides California wildflowers should be coming into bloom Short stops to historic sites, ranches, and if lucky possibly a docent led tour to Painted Rock to view Expect mud, some rain, and cooler temperatures. Vehicle Requirements: All stock land rovers are acceptable for this trip. Please ensure vehicles are maintained and ready, as best they can be. Ideally, bring extra fuel, fuel stops will be limited. Radios will be set to 146.460 MHz Weather: https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?textField1=35.094580000000&textField2=-119.640020000000#.ZAa2JXbMJaQ Expect some mild rain/drizzles and lower temperatures. Dress and pack accordingly. Road Conditions: Expect mud, puddles, and possible snow dusting at higher elevations. Soda and Panorama Roads may be closed in some places due to the rains, but we can mosey around the other ridge roads, we will obey all road signs. 17. Well folks, after some watching the weather and discussion with others - we are going to move some things around. 1. Weather forecast is expected to dump a ton of snow in the Bowman Area - we don't want/need to be in the way of the Washington residents and those in the area - they will be busy digging out by the weekend. 2. Oceano Dunes campsites are booked up for April (this was scheduled for April MoRG) So the new plan is this: This weekend (10th/11th/12th) we will head to down to the Carrizo Plains Check out some wild flowers, see the neon hillsides of California We can do some light overlanding and have a good time hanging out at camp - I am considering leaving Friday. Distance is almost equal from the Bay Area to get down there. Then for the April MORG we will head out to Bowman Lake for a slightly more mild snow run. I will update the calendar and get the plan for Carrizo Plains Trip posted shortly.
  18. You just need to join the 3/4 ton crew. That big deezol lyfe.
  19. Axle is supposedly 4:1 according to a couple reports from treadmagazine and a few other articles - I don't think they have published the full spec list with gear ratios at the axles. Transfer case is 2.5:1. Yes, manually locking. Fronts are electronically actuated, transfer case is still tied to a mechanical linkage in cab. The nice thing, at least appears as such, is that they have protected many points on the frame for skids etc. There are numerous threaded and bolt points to choose from. Steering gear is also chunky, makes jeep currie gear look like twigs.
