AA Journey
Hi there, Here is a short update on the Overland expo and Mojave road trip. I will let Brenton or someone else write the trip report if one needs to be written. The overland expo was great but i probably won't do it again anytime soon. Hanging out at the Camel Trophy skill area was the best thing. We got to do one on one training with some of the guys who participated in the Camel Trophy competition. Great guys. I also got to drive a 2014 RR through the obstacle course. Here are some of the pictures i took during the event. http://antonioanguiano.smugmug.com/photos/swfpopup.mg?AlbumID=41003156&AlbumKey=j6JR5S The Mojave Road trip was awesome. If you never been there, this is a must. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to do this trip with. Great company and food. We had a few car issues during the trip but we came together and got them figured out and completed the trip. Brento's alternator went out the first day of the trip, so we made a trip to the Las Vegas LR dealership and got a replacement. The last day of the trip, one of my shocks blew up. I was able to drive the remainder of the trip without a shock and drove home as well. Anyway, enough said, here are some of the pictures I took during the trip. http://antonioanguiano.smugmug.com/photos/swfpopup.mg?AlbumID=41003632&AlbumKey=JxFrck Enjoy! DHappel
I'd tend to agree with you about OE. It was pretty cool and we'll likely go again but not right away. Wish I could have joined you guys on the Mojave Road but work....Heck, you actually beat Michele back home as she had to fly directly to Seattle from the show. How was your trip out? I'm trying to arrange a trip out to Sedona and the north rim for July this weekend.
LATEAPEX
Elizabeth and I both thought overland expo was cool, but not go back next year cool.. We were both pretty disappointed with the lack of organization and professionalism that you would expect from a event that has been around this long, with the list of world traveling attendees, and the price that the "experience/free for all " package fetches. What made the trip worth it was the company of the club, CT skillz, and the Mojave Road Trail. Here are some pics with hopefully more to add soon http://seanwheeler.smugmug.com/Mojave-Road-2014/
Desertcrawler
Did you see the little critter garden near the flag? Great photos. Teds
I have always wanted to attend, but maybe I will just attend a west coast event. Too bad it seemed unorganized and not live up to expectations. Been dying to do Mojave Road for years!
ndamico
Now i'm looking on CL for a LR3. most of them don't say what packages they come with- SE, HSE, LUX, and the HD. is there a way to obtain that info based on the VIN or perhaps a specific feature on the vehicle that is only present on a given package? i'm trying to make it easier to rule out certain vehicles. thanks! DHappel
There are VIN decoders I believe but I can't really help you much there. Some dealers are helpful if you call them with the VIN. SE or HSE will be obvious - first of all it will have a logo on the tailgate saying one or the other. You'll also find 18" wheels on the SE and 19" on the HSE, though of course those are easy enough to change so no guarantee. LUX is given away by the refrigerated center console. HD is a tough one - most people don't know what it is anyway. Since it included a full size spare, you can check that as a starter. No full size spare and it shouldn't be an HD, but having one doesn't automatically make it the HD as you could get. I can't remember if the little pad-lock icon is present on the 4x4 info screen on non HD models; it could be there but just never show locking. I don't have any photos (probably find one on google) but you can see the electronic control modual on the side of the rear dif it's an HD - that's the only way to be 100%, but it means crawling under the truck and knowing what you're looking for. I'll see if I can find a pic for you.
Guest Pedram
I was going to add the black trim package but I think that's only an option for the LR4. I'm excited to see what you find. This club has connections. They might find you your ideal truck.
ndamico
That would be great. I hope so. We are a very outdoorsy family and think the LR would be a great fit. We love to hike and bike and camp.
GraemeWare
SE or HSE will be obvious - first of all it will have a logo on the tailgate saying one or the other. Careful, badges are about $20. Regards, Graeme
DHappel
Are you suggesting that ally those AMG Mercedes I see with the bling-boy wheels and single exhaust might not actually be AMGs? I'm shocked and offended!
RedRover
Are you suggesting that ally those AMG Mercedes I see with the bling-boy wheels and single exhaust might not actually be AMGs? I'm shocked and offended! You sound like you're describing those guys who take the early-year L322 Range Rovers and pimp them out with the ridiculous 22-inch wheels and rubber bands for tires. http://www.1070maryann.com/images/blue_ugly_l322.jpg http://www.1070maryann.com/images/837.gif -Jared
