I had the opportunity to take a bunch of parts off a D1 and recycle the rest.  I pulled the sunroof cassettes out both front and back.  The appeared to work just fine.  My D1 has no sunroofs.  Free to anyone who wants them.  If no one claims them they are going in the bin.

Wow, what sort of vehicle are those parking spaces designed for?  Did he park in motor cycle parking?  No idea who it is but looks like he's ready for the alpaca-lips.  Hatchet to get the work done, maxtrax to bridge between the piles of the undead and a shower to wash off all the zombie squeezings when you're done.

I've seen people bring them before as well as inflatables but I never have brought one.  Considering the size of the group on this trip and the pace, I'm not sure you're going to have much opportunity to use it.  Personally by the time we make it to camp I'm more interested in setting up camp and opening a cold one and relaxing with friends.  But it stays light late these days and a nice paddle around after dinner would be fun.  In the morning you're going to want to be moving early to avoid the traffic so probably not much time there.  If it's short you probably wouldn't notice it but I wouldn't bring an overly long one.  if paddling is your thing then bring it.

Doesn't anyone use a paper map anymore?  Is using one a lost art?  Perhaps we could have  a class on orienteering and map reading at one of our MORGs or around the campfire.  Wish I could join on this one but we are already committed that weekend.  Bummer b/c this is always a good time.

    A what, paper map?

I like the orienteering idea.  In the U.K. we called them "treasure hunts" and were a combination of timed events, clues, map reading, and other surprises.  They usually involved one or more pubs ...

I'll try to set one up for later in the year and let you know when I have it together.  Planning takes days if done correctly.

Being alone is the reason I go out on trails like this.  Some people want the "Con" experience with all the rowdy, loud excitement.  To me it spoils the beauty of the place.  I would encourage you to head out early and find a spot near the lake and take in the scenery, have a brew and a lunch while you wait for the rest of the wagon train to catch up.  You wont regret it.  Loon has some nice browns in it if you're so inclined.

I did the Highlanders rubicon poker run, scheduled for fathers day, in 2011.  It was a big snow year,  not unlike this year.  The slabs were clear but here is the road into Loon Lake.  They actually re routed the poker run that year due to the snow. We still had fun with some deeper water crossings.

The Rubicon is always fun.  I would like to join this trip but if I do I will have to catch up with you guys at some point as a 3 day trip isn't something I'm thinking I'll get a hall pass for at this point.  I wouldn't be surprised if you come across plenty of snow in June.  Yesterday Squaw and Alpine announced they will be open until July 7th!!  I know there is a significant elevation difference but...   And don't forget, sierra's before August = mosquitoes.  Love me some rubicon though

I know it's early in the year yet but we need to get this on the calendar soon so you all can make your plans.

Thanks to the huge snowfall we've had so far this year I'm going to assume the trail won't be open until well into the summer.  With that in mind we're targeting the last week of June.

    The plan:

June 27, Thursday.  Arrive this evening at Loon Lake north shore campground
June 28, Friday.  Early AM start on the trail, arriving at Buck Island Lake that afternoon
June 29, Saturday.  Early start again, arriving at Rubicon Springs that afternoon
June 30, Sunday. Early start, leaving through Tahoe that afternoon

The idea here is to have 3 easy days with plenty of time in camp or time on the trail for new members if they want to take it easy.  We're starting on Thursday to try to avoid some of the crowds typically found on the weekend but you should still expect plenty of traffic Fri and Sat.  Hopefully by doing this the weekend prior to the 4th some of the yahoos will skip this date and instead come up then.

We currently have something like 20 trucks in the club capable of doing this trip.  We won't have any limits on numbers, but if we have a big group we'll break into 2 or more smaller groups while on the trail to avoid clogging things up.

First timers are welcome - nay - encouraged to join!  This is THE epic 4wd trail not just in California, but in all the country.  If you live this close and don't run it, how will you be able to live with yourself when in the future your grandchildren hear you telling stories about owning a Land Rover and they ask 'Did you run the Rubicon?'  and you're forced to hang your head and shamefully mutter under your breath 'no'....

For those who don't have a truck up to the challenge, we'll try to arrange passenger seats.

As we get closer I'll post more details - but mark your calendar now!

So dawned on me I have worthless buttons since the air suspension is gone.

Then I looked and said, I think the switches for the lockers might fit there!!

Turns out they do! Just requires some minor modifications to make the opening longer, so on my way to finishing this up...then I'll get the fun of rerouting the wires into the dash.

But will prevent the switches from bouncing and it's difficult to get to them behind the transfer case selector.

I added a tire lubricator. They've been getting warm and I don't want them to overheat. Typical land rover problems...

    Sweet,

I still think you should have some drop down sides made for it.  Make it look like a series with the rope tighteners.
