  1. No worries man, as one of the three planners (and de facto pre-runner), this was not taken as criticism, just good feedback. I’m sure we’ll give as much heads up as possible. I gave my group a 6 months heads up and then got date suggestions and it worked perfect. We’ll strive to make it happen for as many as possible. Family trips are the best trips. 2. Where in Auburn? Maybe I’ll come hang for a ceremonial send-off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. We found plenty of wood at camp or along the route. Burn local wood is the best way to go about it. We didn’t have any fire restrictions. At Paisley there was one but then we were out of that jurisdiction. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. There's definitely several opportunities for recovery gear. Your load out should work great. Recovery boards are good too. If you have the rechargeable Baofeng batteries, you can get their USB-A charger, that's what I use. They do have a 12V charger, but the USB one works well too.
  5. Oriental is a homerun of a camp ground. 12 miles from the main road. There was no one there when we went this same time last year.
  6. Haha, correct, no chains required. Just chatted with Miles a bit about my route notes, but expect a slow pace over chunky terrain the last several miles before Hwy 40/Gap Ranch, and a section of Christmas Valley for several miles before the dunes. I was on LT275/65-18 KO2’s with zero issues, and not aired down. It was just slow going. Expect some mud on the route, but nothing my 8600lb LR4 couldn’t handle. Only got stuck once in a “dry” lake with about 3” of water then 3” of mud. It was just too slick for my KO2’s at full pressure and at my heavy weight. A quick winch over to Nick’s 110 and Maxtrax got me to firm ground. I was the only one out of the 5 trucks that didn’t make it through without stopping. Got a great foot mud bath for free [emoji41]. I’m sending Miles my actual track so there’ll be no route surprises between Seneca and Paisley. I’m even throwing in two awesome camp spots that we loved. Ask me any questions! 7. Oh man, I am insanely jealous you guys are about to head out on this!!! I just got back yesterday evening from completing the second half of the OR BDR (NE corner to south SE corner at the 395). We did nearly 400 miles from Seneca, OR working our way SW to Hwy 140, heading S/SW through Christmas Valley to Hwy 31 where we hit the mountains again till Paisley, OR. We finished the rest of the section down to the 395 a couple days ago. And so sad it's over. Please ask me any questions, and I'll put up a few photos. Oregon is my new overlanding mecca, and I've hardly scratched the surface. There is zero snow along the route unless you're in the northern sections of the cascades, or in the Dismal Swamp to the SE near the California border, and even that is pretty much melted. Expect fun water crossings, some light mud, beautiful forests, etc. It is such a change of scenery to what we're used to here in the California desserts.
  8. Youuuuuuu shhaaaaaallllll nnnoooooottttt Baaaaaaaiiiiilllll Seriously, I'll be back in the bay on the 19th, maybe I can squeeze in a tech day to make sure you make this trip.

  11. Usually getting back to a main road isn’t too hard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Yes they are!! Going to a good Rover. And if I sell the 2016, I’ll put the Adventure AT’s back in and keep the KO2’s for my wife 2013 LR4 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. My work schedule is pretty much clear right now, so I am really hoping I can make this. I will literally becoming off the second half of Section 5 of the ORBDR (June 10-18), the part we didn't have time to do last year. Taking a different pace on the same route and learning the history and sights of the region would be a whole new experience. And BTW, my LR4 now has KO2's hahaha (my LR3 has had them forever and they've been great performers; my spare is still brand new after more than 2.5 years and 55K miles).
  14. This route will be about the same as I did with a group of friends/family in late June 2022, and we absolutely loved it. The track is about 300 miles, and getting to the start is nearly 700 miles from Sacramento. This nice thing is that at the end. It’s just a day drive home. I voted I think but my vote has changed because I started a new position in San Jose. I’m good with whichever dates are chosen, but I’m almost wondering if because of this year’s snowfall, if the second half of June wouldn’t be better. But I thought that last year and it turned out fine. The WA BDR was another story though. Really pumped for this!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  18. I’ll do site 78 with my family! [emoji1316] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I can maybe head straight to Lost Lakes and secure camping spots if you want. Weekends see more activity there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Such a bummer about the coil, I wish I would've known and still been with the group, I had an LR3 coil with me...
  21. Finally just checking this thread! What a fun trip, even though we busted out WAY early for something so dumb. After we left the group for pavement, we spent nearly the entire two hours to Baker then Vegas, on the phone. We called about 50 tire shops in the region, and no one had the specific tire we needed. In fact, 19" wheels suck. I did have the option to get an entirely new set of AT's in Wild Peaks, but they would have been in the 30" tire size and cost $1600. In the end, we waited in Vegas two nights until we got a tire in from LR Henderson. They were super helpful, and way more helpful than LR Las Vegas. Still, we didn't get back on to the trip until Friday early afternoon. We ended up driving back to Lake Havasu to visit Tiina's dad again, and then Saturday morning left for Death Valley to catch up to Ted and his daughter. We ended up rendezvousing at Bad Water Basin, and then high tailed it to Warm Springs for the night before it got dark. Honestly, being able to spend one more night remote camping was a perfect way to end the trip. We explored the spring and the talc mine, and then started our long journey home. He finally arrived home last night just after 11 pm, hearts full. Thanks again to the Group 2 gang for putting up with truck's shenanigans. Was truly embarrassing to slow the entire group down. A huge thanks to Will and Johann for changing both my tires in quick fashion, and to Johann for letting me borrow his spare till we got to an easy section of dirt. In the end, I never lost air in the tire repair I made to the first puncture. It is still holding perfect air and is still on the truck. The new tire is in the spare position...for now, lol. Ordering 18" wheels and 32" KO2's ASAP! I'll upload drone footage and photos to the drive...I hope there's lot's of GB's of storage haha.
  22. It’s pretty easy to swap out. Make sure you get a new relay with it just in case it’s the relay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. On our way!! We’ll be spending the next two nights in Lake Havasu visiting family, and will see you all Sunday AM![emoji1316] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I believe we are leaving Friday morning from Sac. May visit family in Lake Havasu on Saturday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
