Mr.BlueSky
Unfortunately due to the fires up North we will be relocating to this month's MORG to Frank Raines. NEW PLAN - FRANK RAINES When: 10AM Saturday November 2nd Cost: Entrance Fee is $5 per vehicle Where: 17802 Del Puerto Canyon Rd, Patterson, CA Frequency: For those that have HAM radios, we will be using 146.460 More details: Once we get gas, snacks etc, we will head the last leg into the park and start hitting a few trails. Make sure to pack a lunch! Also, there is no cell service once you turn off of I-5 so make sure you know where you are going. If anyone from the South Bay wants to drive up together let me know and we can get a meetup location set. We will need to keep an eye on the weather to ensure that the OHV Park stays open as the park may close given wet conditions. In the event South Cow is closed, we can bump around lower Mendocino National Forest for the day (or weekend if some want to make a camping trip out of it.) When: 10:00AM Saturday November 2nd Where: 13600 Mountain House Rd, Hopland, CA 95449 (Hopland Food and Gas) Frequency: For those that have HAM radios, we will be using 146.460 More details: Once we get gas, snacks etc, we will head the last leg into the park and start hitting a few trails. RobertDingli
Is there a contingency to the contingency for this trip? There’s still an active fire between SF and South Cow OHV. I also noted that when I ventured north of SF yesterday, there were large power outages and people were driving into SF to refuel. I certainly will need to refuel for this journey and am hesitant about driving into the unknown. Mr.BlueSky

I've left a message with the Ukiah BLM office (today and yesterday ), if I do not recieve a call back confirming conditions by end of day today, we will be moving the MORG to Frank Raines. Andrew Wood
I just called the hopeland gas station ( 707-704-1298) and they said that the electricity's back on and they have gasoline.
Mr.BlueSky
Alright, I did not receive a call back from South Cow Mountain unfortunately. I did speak to someone from Clear Lake by chance and they mentioned it was veeery smokey smoggy etc. So I say we err on the side of caution, stay out of everyone's way up North and head East to Frank Raines. Mr.BlueSky
The November MoRG was successfully held at Frank Raines. We had in our midst: - 1x P38 looking minty fresh- 2x '97 NAS D90s looking similar but different- 1x Discovery 2 all prepped and ready to go- 1x Snowflake powered by the best land rover engine ever handed down by the rover gods... the unbeatable 3.9L We all arrived together except for John in the P38, he straggled in as we were letting air out at the entrance. Once we were all gathered up we headed into the park crossing the stream (currently dry) to explore the East side of the park. We passed the dried up mud-pits (Snowflake briefly flashed a check engine light warning me to play nice today) so no temptations there. Then we swung down and around into Oak Flats where we drove through another (dry) mud pit and played on the tire pile. Much flexing was done on the tires as we all looked to see where (if anything rubbed). Both Robert and I found various rubbing spots that we need to attend to. His in the rear, while I am one fingernail away from rubbing in the front. After Oak Flats we headed up the hill climbs until we hit the Northernmost fence. The hill climbs were uneventfully steep, though halfway up on the negative battery cable popped off Snowflake.... Soon it was realised that the terminal could no longer clamp down on the stud, the fix was to flip the terminal upside down, spread it, and bite down.... Seeing as it was almost noon, we headed back down to the entrance. There was a bit of a scur-fluffle, but that is a story for another time, so we settled down for lunch. After lunch we explored some of the western parts of the park and climbed some more hills, they look daunting, but when dry are rather anti-climactic. we also found a few water crossings to play in. (And no one swamped a truck this time) As the day neared the end, Gustav, Cris, Theresa, and I took Mines Road back to Livermore. It was very scenic. John and Robert went back to the Bay by heading east back via I-5.
Andrew Wood
Very nice write-up Miles. I do look forward to one day visiting South Cow Mountain. I am definitely looking forward to hearing about the scur-fluffl. RobertDingli and Mr.BlueSky
Mr.BlueSky
Sadly we didn't make it to South Cow... we had to re-locate to Frank Raines due to the fires up North. I am definitely looking forward to hearing about the scur-fluffl.By ‘scur-fuffl’, I guess Miles was referring to the tragic demise of Disco Stu. While heading back from the trails for a lunch break we were passing some other road users on a non technical trail when I misjudged an embankment and toppled over sideways. Stu took a trail nap. Disco Stu is a write off but I promise to build another. Look out for Stu2 as soon as I can find a good donor vehicle. Andrew Wood
How could a flop be the demise of your D2? Surely a little duck tape and a hammer can fix your Landy. I know lots of people that flopped there Landy (including me) and are still running the trails.
RobertDingli
Good question. When you look closely, the roof is crumpled and the structure bent over slightly. It would require some significant realignment and new roof, fender and doors. All of the expensive bits I added are fine.

Using Don's D1 as a reference, why don't you chop the top off and build a roll bar and have a canvas top installed? You could do most of the work yourself and it would be fun to build. It would have a very low center of gravity and you could flop it over all you want.
