Hollister to King City the FUN Way

Recommended Posts

So after the 2014 NCLR Annual, Lutzi and I decided to go the back way home on a repeat trip that some of us did last year after the 2013 Annual.

We Went over toward Hollister, turned right, and went down to Tres Pinos to top up. Then after another 8 miles south, we turned left at Pacines and headed toward the I-5:

After the left turn at Pacines, there was some clown tail-gaiting me:

After an hour or so, climbing through some nice paved ups & downs, we found ourselves on the flats:

We stopped at the Panoche Valley Inn to chill, and saw a glider port running gliders across the valley.

After that, the road became a mixture of horrible patches:

But then the fun began.. we climbed up toward the West, and stopped at New Idria, the old Murcury (Quicksilver) mine that employed hundreds of peeps during WWI and after:

The rigs were getting hot, and my auxiliary fan was running most of the next few hours. We climbed steeply west on a rutted dirt road where my ETC kicked-in a few times.... Here's a view from about 2/3 the way up:

Spooky Tom... There were signs everywhere telling us to leave!

More report to follow -- I crashed my upload last night and will try to do it while on business tomorrow.

Sorry everyone,

I should have posted this thread in the General Trips forum. I'm going to continue it over there.

Wow, great photos... I love finding stuff like that. Looks like a lot more fun than driving down I-5 or 101 to get home...

Also moved this thread to the same forum as the other half of your trip report & provided a link below.
