i will be there

Awesome -- this will be a first for me at Frank Raines -- Pedram will be our veteran (and hopefully Mike as well - hint hint)... ::bigsmile::

My mom is in town, so not sure if I can make it. I'll know better as we get closer to the date. I'm always hoping! :)

::series2::Keep hope alive David...and in the meantime, I'll put a question out to Pedram et al. about something kind of important.

In the past, how well has Frank Raines OHV been maintained or cleared of brush? Thinking about the newer LR3/LR4/RRS vehicles that attend, is it a dense trail or pretty clear? From the video you shared it looks pretty open.

Surprisingly it's not bad. But I feel like it's never been maintained. In the years I've been there, maybe a total of 6 times, I have seen one park ranger there. And I have never paid to enter. Well maybe once. I can't figure out their park. I think you have a self serve booth. It's really vague. Never had issues. Even with a large group ( about 14 trucks).

In my video there is a water crossing. That's really the main entrance into the park 4x4 area. It's shared with dirt bikes and ATV's. So we have to make sure we are aware of others. Use radio communications. Other than that the terrain is great. Big park and many options there.

Sounds good. By the way, did the bay area folks all want to meet up at the base of Mt. Hamilton in SJ?

There is a large shoulder on the LH side of Alum Rock Ave. where we can stage.

I'm figuring that if we meet at 8:15 AM, that gives us enough time to reach the peak at Lick Observatory, maybe take a photo or two and then trek down the backside to Frank Raines.

Let me know if that works!

Eyes in the prize baby. Your focus should be on the road and not the Cliffside. No search and rescue service here. Just keep driving like you never saw anything.

What?!? No, I never saw that white Disco with a big Land Rover decal go flying off the side... don't know WHAT you're talking about... ::blink::

...nor did I see it followed by a storm grey LR3... ::cheesy::

I'm not missing this trip because I'll be driving some newish LR4 with some serious toys.

Anyways, Rupert, what are you worried about. You live north of this area and going this route would make no sense for you. Same to Don. For Jared and I this is okay. East bay and south bay. North bay can take 580 to 5 south.
