Ok so I might be a little excited for this trip. Today I packed most of the truck (and then realized that I need to unpack it so that I can drive it around and get some miles on her.. Doh). I want send a huge thanks to Barron (aka Bear) who is letting me borrow his fridge for the trip. Picked it up today and made sure everything fits, ala why my truck is packed.

I did have some help finishing up the roof rack flooring from my little man

who also supervised some under the hood work

When I was packing I decided to remove the rear seats as it will just be my dad and I no dog and then I built a shelf to help maximize my space (Being manic helps to get things done 😜)

And for Tom: Solis 0 PL259 1 I burned the adaptor trying to remove the previous attempts remains, so I ordered 2 just in case

I wanted to let everyone know there will be a DRIVERS MEETING (virtual) which we will have on March 17th, to introduce everyone who is going on the Death Valley trip and to talk about logistics, the routes, and any questions people have about Death Valley and/or the trip. An agenda and supporting materials will be sent out in advance.

To join the call, please dial my conference call number 1-800-602-4006 and enter the passcode 3257522. We will start promptly at 1pm on Sunday, March 17th.

Here is the latest list of participants. Please advise if you are not able to make it, or if I have any incorrect information. Also, some of you haven't communicated back via the thread what you are bringing :

I may be leaving in the afternoon on Friday now. Depends on workload which I wont know until Thursday. I am hoping to get some miles in but will probably get a motel somewhere in Nevada. Then into Gold Point sometime in the morning. Its 430 miles or about 7 hours from Sacramento. All depends on what time we get out of here. I just dont want to get to Gold Point at midnight and have to set up camp.

Traffic can be bad on 80 on a Friday afternoon. If you are in the East bay, I would take 4 to 12 to 5 or farther south then take 580 to 5.

Uh oh. Don't think this is going to work. Those frequencies are not available (or legal) for HAM's to use. We are restricted to 144 - 148 MHZ in the 2 Meter Band.

So we will need to come up with another plan for you to stay in touch with us. Either a handheld -- or we need to mess with Beavers repeater idea -- but I think you might be talking on illegal frequencies.

I just posted a link for tours of Scotties castle in a separate thread. Please make your reservations if you plan on a tour, since space may be limited. I want us to book any tour that starts at 3pm or later. I booked the Mobraten's on a 3.15 tour of the Underground part of the Castle. Unfortunately, you'll need to choose one of the two available tours and not the combo package. We will be done with all the tours by 5, and hopefully in camp by 6:30...so it may be a bit of a late Easter Buffet....

Yes, we are going here...]

Also the place the nurse and her 6 year old went and got lost.

Maybe we will end up rescuing someone!

Yeah don't get me started on that. let's say this is why I don't leave home without a few things. Most important the lumpy thing between my ears.

So many ignorant people in this world, immune to reality...

Sorry I missed the conference call yesterday. Any updates or changes?

Right now, my Friday schedule will not be confirmed until Thursday night, but I may be able to leave Sac until the late afternoon. If we can get out by 3pm, then I may try and make it all the way to Gold Point (440 miles or 7 hours driving). Otherwise, I will drive a good distance and get a motel for the night and arrive in the morning on Saturday. Its kinda tough setting up camp really late with a 6 yo, but she is a trooper...

Where are the campsites at Gold Point? We stayed in a cabin last year within walking distance to the main bar. We plan to camp this year if the weather cooperates. Hopefully, no snow!

No worries. We will be hitting the trails around 9am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Saturday, we will be in the general area -- and could probably rally up near "Hard Luck Castle" around one of the tours if you are running late. Just get into town, set up camp, and talk to the Sherrif about directions there. Anyone who comes in on Sunday -- our goal is to make Scotty's castle by 3pm for tours, leave Gold Point around 9am.

There is a thread over on Expedition Portal -- there will be two other groups of offroaders -- one Expedition Portal and one the PCRC (Pacific Coast Rovers Club) down in Death Valley the same time we are. PCRC has a 110 with them too -- but not Camel Trophy. There is also a group of about 200 adventure motorcycle riders based out of Panamint Springs. Luckily, our routes will have us avoid most of the madness!

The frequencies we should program into our HAM's to monitor radio traffic are:

145.555

146.520

147.550

plus our own that is 146.460.

Chuck, if we hit camp by 6:30pm, it could be a pretty late buffet especially if some are using dutch ovens.
