Disco2Guy
The date is set for Feb. 8-10, 2013 for the 6th Annual Shaver Lake Snow Run! The current sign up list is at the bottom of this post. __________________________________________________________________ Description:Shaver Lake is located at the 5,500 ft. elevation, one hour northeast of Fresno in central California. The area is known for abundant outdoor activities: snow skiing, snowmobiling, water skiing, fishing, and backpacking, horseback riding, 4-wheeling and camping. Camp Edison has heated bathrooms with shower facilities (tokens can be purchased with quarters on the way in), and electrical outlets for each campsite. The breakers can trip easily, so please talk to your camp mates about any heaters or equipment with high power needs you may be using. Ruts, whoops, drifts, ice, are all common ways to crunch a panel. If you stop forward movement, do not spin your wheels. The friction melts the snow and then freezes into ice, reducing the quality of the trail surface. Vehicle Requirements: Chains- Chains may be required on the way to Camp Edison. If you have street tires and plan to hit the trail, you will need two sets of chains. If you have not installed chains before, please test fit them before the trip. Check for clearance issues around brake or ABS lines as well as tire wells during articulation. Stock vehicles (without chains) should remain at Camp Edison and find someone to ride shot-gun with on Bald Mountain.Tires- All vehicles should be fitted with All Terrain or Mud Terrain tires and have a full sized spare. A tire repair kit is recommended.Recovery Points- Strong recovery points front and rear are a must. Expect to pull someone (or yourself) from either end of your truck multiple times. Required Safety & Recovery Equipment:Fire extinguisher, CB (channel 7) or FRS (channel 7), or HAM radio for communicationHi-Lift and/or X-Jack (at least one vehicle carry one), winch (every other vehicle is optimal), recovery strap (each vehicle should have their own)Metal shovel (shovel snow), first aid kit, repair tools and spares to suit your vehicle, tire gauge and tire pumpEmergency overnight pack of food, water, blanket Clothing Suggestions:Snow/winter clothing- layer with base clothing that wicks sweat, polar fleece, wind/water repellant shell jacket or winter jacket; winter gloves, hat or beanie, and snow boots. SFDiscoII
Is it too late to join the fun? Seems like forever or maybe a little longer since I joined a NCLR trip. I would be camping, do I need to call and reserve my own spot or do you guys have a bunch of sites reserved? Thanks, Leigh

Disco2Guy
Hey Leigh! Yes there is room to join the trip. So far we have 1 confirmed camping spot by Lutz (#229). Myself (#227) and Colin (#231G) have requests in, and are waiting for confirmation from Camp Edison. Would you plan to travel with the caravan? We need people who are getting there in the afternoon to make reservations, so they can pick up the camp permits before the office closes at 4 or 5pm. We could use one more campsite, so feel free to fax or mail your request. They don't take phone or online reservations. If you have questions about the campsite process, let me know. GriffSC
Leigh! Would love to see your beautiful visage again. I'm sure time has only improved what nature so graciously bestowed upon you. I'm there with the 110 and tent cot (just picked one up used). Will be my third year and third sleeping configuration. Should be heading down Friday with the caravan. SFDiscoII
Brenton, I would be joining the group after work. If I am lucky I might be able to leave after lunch but cannot get out any earlier than that.
Disco2Guy
Ok no worries. I think Graeme and Jen will also be arriving after the caravan. Maybe you can organize a 2nd caravan to Camp Edison.
Disco2Guy
I've faxed my campsite request last Fri. (1/4) and have not heard from Camp Edison yet. I called hoping to reach a person but only got recordings. It seems mailing my requests in previous years yielded faster results. I will post up when I hear back from them. As of now, we have 1 confirmed campsite in Lutz's name. I will contact some other people about their status too.
Desertcrawler
I am in for sure, and require a CABIN this year. How much do they cost, and is there a link to see what is included (ie do they have a stove or do we still bring one?). We will have a total of 5 people in our group -- 2 adults and 3 kids. Disco2Guy
Chuck I will look for some cabin info for you tonight. They do not have cabins as part of Camp Edison. Actually if you look in some of the Gauging Interest threads from previous years, there is cabin info. I didn't include any this time since there have only been 1 or 2 people that have stayed in a cabin in my 5 years of attending this trip. Go figure! Who is planning to be part of the caravan on Friday? Either meeting at the Shell in Gilroy, or Valero in Madera? We may need one more person to make a campsite reservation, and they need to be there before the office closes at 4pm to get the camp permits for their site. Desertcrawler
Never mind on the cabin. Will need a site for my disco and 2 tents. Thought Edison had campsites. I won't be able to make it until late on Friday.
LandRonB
Camp Edison has tent sites. Even has power (2x 110 AC outlefts) on ea site. Good to run electric blankets w/extension cords (smile). Bathrooms are heated w/hot showers and standard flushing toilets. Really nice even during the winter. drafdog
Whooohoo. Plans changed and we are able to go! It will be me Oliver and maybe another kid. (If not too cold). It will be a late Friday arrival as we have a new au pair starting that day.
Guest Pedram
Okay I'm now informed on this link, but I still need to know what site to reserve. What camp site should I get? I'm thinking 226?? Or 236? I want one that isn't so small. According to the map at Edison 228 might be small since it doesn't allow for a pop out. 228 Paved $36 View Site Dogwood 54x9 NO Pop out. Moderately wooded. Accommodates 3 large and 1 med tent. Next to the restrooms. SH/EB. 226 Paved $36 View Site Dogwood 53x12 Pop out ok. Sparsely wooded. Accommodates 4 large tents. Good with #225or #227. Camping area spacious. Across from dumpster. SH/EB. 236 Lake Side $43 View Site Dogwood 50x11 Pop out ok. Moderately wooded. Accommodates 3 large tents. Next to the group site. Hose bib. Trail to cove. SH/EB.
Guest Pedram
I want to get the ball rolling soon. Do I still need to fax the out dated camp still? And wait for a mailed ticket?
Disco2Guy
Yes, please send in your request asap. The office is taking longer to get back to me after faxing my request than mailing it in years past. If you're taking your trailer grab one of the other group sites. Colin requested 231G, there is 230G and 233G. Once they receive your faxed request, they will call you to confirm and get payment info at that time. Desertcrawler
Do I need to reserve a site, or can we all crowd in like last year?
Disco2Guy
Campsites are limited to 8 people, but the one who reserves it needs to be there when the caravan arrives. Otherwise the office will be closed to late arrivals and you can't get your permits. Since you'll have 5 people, I'd suggest finding someone in the caravan with 1 or 2 people and have them make the reservation. That way they will have the permits in hand when you arrive later that evening and camp with them. Or you could make the reservation and find a solo traveler in the caravan to get your permit. I'd suggest campsite 226.
Disco2Guy
I just sent a friendly fax reminder to Camp Edison, and they called me back 15 minutes later. Site #227 is officially reserved. I mentioned another 3-4 reservation requests will be coming in, so I hope they get back to everyone faster than they did with me. Desertcrawler
This sounds confusing. I'll reserve 226 with a fax -- what can they do if I arrive late -- throw me out?
Disco2Guy
Tell me about it. The campsite reservation process is hands down the worst part about organizing this trip every year. It would be easier if the camp host had the permits instead of at the office. When I'm at the office this year, I'm going to ask what's the easiest way to make multiple reservations for next year. I keep hoping for them to be part of Reserve America or something along those lines.
JamesF
Hey Brenton, unfortunately, it looks like some family obligations are going to take precedence and I won't be able to make this trip. Had a blast last year and I'll be looking forward to next year.
