sasquatch
Beaver's GPS points look like he's on the wrong side of the river. I think he set up camp in the official campground area. We will be on the EAST side of the Stanislaus River. I'll have to confirm once we get there and find him.
sasquatch
From what I can tell, our proper trailhead gps point should be - 38.321564,-120.215821

MichaelBeaver
Just got back to Elk Grove. Trip was a blast will update more after sleep... just a few thoughts... Sasquatch has no sense of distance..... 1/4 mile my arse... Carlos is an AMAZING chef!!! omfg... The trail was a blast. Good time had by all was great to meet some new people and spouses/S.O.s.... We did end up camping in the "improved camping site" due to fire danger issues and our late arrival.
astateofmike
It was a great day for us as well. We rolled into home at 11pm Sat. With our side steps and TC out (due to sensor) we would have been an issue for Sunday in the white truck.... So no one suffered the LWB being slow, nor my snoring.... So, this club is all about people and seeing old friends and making new this was an incredible trip, even if for the day. Michael, thank you for the cigar. It has been a while since I have indulged, and it was wonderful.Carlos, as always, incredible. If you have are an NCLR member and have not made a trip where Carlos is cooking (or Enrique) you are missing out on an experience.Time in the water, time with the kids.....what a wonderful trip. The campgrounds are on the list for "do again" but this time with a Friday night arrival, wheel Sat, dinnder Sat night and relax/drive home Sunday! Oh, and Michael....yeah, Sasquatch really has no distance guage. But I knew that already..... Friends, thank you all for a wonderful time. Rob and Michael, the idea of logon's for the ladies was heard. PM me the "log on id" they want, I will make that happen. It is a great point and idea! sasquatch
Thanks for a great weekend! I definitely could have used an additional day to decompress with more Pacifico's. Where do I start? Merced burns down, a new location is picked within 24hrs, Beaver shoots out the SPOT co-ord's and the rest is history! We really had a blast. Saturday was spent setting up camp then we wandered down to the river to cool off. Plenty of flat rocks to lay on after hopping in the river (fffahfahfreezing). We actually found a "hot tub" made out of a ring of rocks which prevented the main flow of river water from rushing in. It was only 2 feet deep and quite a bit "warmer" than the river. We must have sat in there for 2hrs. It was awesome. We walk back to camp and what do we find??? A catered Land Rover Event with the White Tent, Linens and incredible appetizers! It was impossible to walk around without good food in one hand, a cold beer in the other and a smile on your face! Thank you Carlos for the great meal! We met a lot of new people and enjoyed the company of all. I've been camping in this area for 30+ years and NEVER even thought about pulling into this campground. I certainly will again - and soon. Sorry for the "short" trail run on Sunday. I'm used to traveling alone on the 4wd section and it always felt like 20 minutes in / 20 minutes out?? At least we were able to rename a section "Perez Hill". Nice. Great teamwork, good spotting and a little bit of cable got us through the trail. Great work Boys! We took our time leaving the campground on Sunday. Relaxed a bit after the trail. Watched all the rude "vultures" in their RV's squeeze into our campsite. Very rude people. One lady actually asked Carlos if he was leaving soon and STOOD right next to his rig while he finished packing! Wow. I was hoping that they'd ask me the same question - I would have unpacked the bbq and thrown on some food! We even took a refreshing shower before hitting the road. Ahhhhhhh. On our way through Angels Camp, I caught out of the corner of my eye an old cemetery. We stopped and had a contest who could find the oldest marker. They dated back well into the mid 1800's. Pretty neat! We also tried to coax a porcupine out of one of the bushes. It made a growling rodent type noise so I bailed!!! I didn't even have shoes on! http://s697.photobucket.com/albums/vv334/d3rover/Sour%20Grass%20Campground%202011/
LandRonB
Hope everyone made it home safely. After our trip yesterday, my wife and I were in a rush to get back home for a 6pm birthday dinner party (my mother-in-law's birthday); needless to say, we pulled in 1 min to spare 5:59pm (who was looking at the clock other than my MIL - lol). Anyways, dusted off the dirt, and we were sitted for dinner just in time. Sweet. And ditto as folks said - great times yesterday! Folks pulled together last min to come up w/alt location from the original location Merced River Trail now fire stricken areas. Turns out to be a good alt choice Wakalu Hep Campground (thanks Beaver for reserving our spots) and challenging 4wheeling on National Forest Road 5N02 (thanks Dave). Appetizers (shrimp ceviche and smoked salmon), pork or chicken dinner wrapped in banana leaves, and banana flambe topped w/vanilla ice cream were over to top. Thanks Chef Carlos. And my wife and I were pleased to see many kids, and folks brought their spouse and/or guest; my two boys Max and Jake enjoyed playing with the others; kept them busy while the grown-ups enjoyed our beverage around the camp fire. After dinner and beverage, enjoyed my sleep Sat night while near-by water stream rushing down from the mountain as the background noise, And next day, to top the great wknd, a surprisingly challenging trail including the new named "Perez" hill. Everyone pulled in together. Again, thanks. My wife Roz, two boys Max and I are ready for the next adventure if we have more wknd like this! Here's a link to our photos, and random shots attached from this wknd festivities: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2222773962070.126360.1029356688&l=fb073f97db&type=

robg
Absolutely brilliant weekend that both my good lady wife and children really enjoyed – A little petrol and a Scotch-Brite brought the kids back to a clean shine however, the Rangie will need some more elbow grease to be sure.<O:p</O:p<O:p</O:pIt was a pleasure spending time with and getting to know Mike, Carlos, Sasquatch, Ron, Mark, Mark and all the families.
