Return to the Rubicon 2011

Recommended Posts

Anyone interested? The group last year has some members still needing to conquer it...

Tim, the guide, was asking if there is enough interest to hire him again. I know a lot of people asked "why would we need to pay a guide" but I think the people on that trip would say it was worth every dollar....

So, this is something I may be interested in doing, but can't go alone..anyone interested?

33" tires, at the very least a rear locker (front as well preferred), HD axles, 3" lift, sliders, front and rear bumpers, diff guards, HD steering components and winch is nice. A complete check on all fluids, belts, and know issues resolved. Trail spares specific to your vehicle. Run the Rubicon Rocks at Hollister (to the left of the Stair Steps) to test out everything. The Rubicon can and will find ANY weakness with your rig.

Also, remember that a bunch of us are doing the Jeeper's Jamboree in July on the Rubicon...I'm sure Tony as trip leader will be posting up details...so if you can't make this one there is an alternative! Different type of experience though.

Some sclr members did the Rubicon in lr3's. Look up the post on sclr forums.

If it's the same trip I read, they stopped and turned around @ Buck Island; didn't complete the entire trail... more hard obstacles to come after Buck Island e.g. Rock Squeeze, and Cadillac Hill. Still brave and got to give them credit for taking LR3s out there. Now to see an LR3 on the Dusy Ershim is another story (smile).

Have fun chuck; no Jeep Jamboree for me. Like to have LR only Jamborree. Lol.

Paid (with Scully as the guide) or non-paid.

Perhaps we can have two groups.

Will and Nathan aka Slohybrid are excellent spotters, and have a lot respect for them. They don't need guides. Been on the Dusy with both and they are the best!

I will help organize but not trail lead - I'd go with the Scully/paid group.

I'd certainly go...me an' the Rubi, we gots us a score to settle...and this time, ah'm a-comin' loaded fer bear!

As much as I like Tim and would gladly wheel with him anytime, anyplace, I have to consider my hard-earned and meager dollars, and if the group is split in to guided/fee and non-guided/free, I'd probably go with the latter purely for economic reasons.

Looks like we have enough interest for a trip to the Rubicon this year "Return to the Rubicon"

We have the following interested:

-Colin

-Nigel

-Gary

-Ron

-Dave aka Sasquatch (passenger)

-Enrique (passenger)

-Antonio

-Chuck

-JFlores

-Lutz

-Nathan

-TigerDan

-Steven (passenger)

We need to split the group anways, so we can and might as well have Group 1 (Tim), and Group 2 (Need a Volunteer Trail Leader?)

Great to also see experienced wheelers as passengers e.g. Dave, Enrique... - Driver need to lock their eyes on the "one" spotte,r but the extra help from passengers by stacking rocks when needed will come in handy.

Ham radio is a must in ea group (1 and 2 can communicate) and within the group.

First aide kit

Now need to find out when would folks be able to make it

- After the Jeep Jamboree in June/July would be good I think (Aug or Sept). We went September back in 2009; weather was nice; not too cold and most important now crowded.

- We have our NCLR annual event Sept 30th - Oct 2nd, and some of us are planning a Baja Mexico Trip mid October

Post up if interested in Aug or Sept or suggest a date, and if you prefer group 1 (Tim), or Group 2. Group 2 will be non-paid and need a volunteer trail leader. Need to confirm this with Tim but $250-$300 per vehicle is the typicaly cost to give you an idea.
