Beyond Baja Mexico

Hola Amigos/Amigas,

Let's send our well wishes to the folks going to Baja Mexico this month of October.

I wanted to go, but having just traveled to Chiapas Mexico, and with my busy work load this month, it wasn't possible for me this time!  Hopefully next time!

I do however want to share my amazing trip to the state of Chiapas Mexico and wish to come back maybe next year or sooner.  Perhaps some of you adventurers here maybe interested in going.

Chiapas is located in the southeast of Mexico.  It borders on the east Guatemala, and it is about 5 hours via non-stop flight from San Francisco to Mexico City, and then another two hours non-stop flight from Mexico City to Tuxtla Gutiérrez.  Total of about 7 hours on the air. Or a 14 hour drive from Mexico City if you want to rent a vehicle and explore including scenic green drive all the way to the beach town of Puerto Arista on the Pacific Ocean side.

Besides Tuxtla Gutiérrez (Enrique aka Discochef's home town), there are other major cities and interesting small towns in Chiapas including the famous tourist destination w/a European like feel of San Cristóbal De Las Casas, and the small township with its own rules of San Juan Chamula (so surreal and the experience was like reading from the National Geographic magazine except you are in it), and future planned trips to Palenque (check out the Mayan ruins next time)... among many other cities and attractions.

The adventure started after I accepted an invite from Enrique to travel to his hometown of Tuxtla Gutierrez, and then to celebrate his mother's 90th birthday in a beach town called Puerto Arista.  Good food, good company, beach in Mexico and an invite from Enrique "guaranteed to eat and drink well (lol)", how can I not refuse!

I booked my flight via Aeromexico from San Francisco to Mexico City, and then from Mexico  City to Tuxtla for about $550 r/t.

There's a free comfortable bed waiting for me in Tuxtla when I got there, but I prefer to sleep in a hammock.

To make my long story short, the hospitality was amazing, food including local dishes, coffee, chocolate, etc.. were great and it was an experience of a life time for me!

Ok more details later!  Here are some pictures in the meantime!

I did retire from banking for a short while, and was going to take it easy & change industries completely away from banking.

But I got bored and missed my line of work (not the company I retired from) and found another bank that I really like (work/life balance).
