New LR4

Hello everyone,

I just picked up my 2013 LR4. As some of you know, I had a 2011 LR4 that I had leased because it was my return to Land Rover after a long hiatus. I loved the vehicle, but it was a great deal off the lot, so I went ahead and ordered a 2013 a few months back with exactly the packages I want (heavy duty being top on my list of course). I posted my 2011 on here a few months ago in hopes for a private sale, but it worked out great to trade it into the dealership because they paid off the lease (over a year early) and gave me an awesome trade in - well above the pay off.

The new one is an HSE Lux, fuji white, black design package, arabica/almond interior, and heavy duty package. I did not want the vision assist or any of that, as I want to keep the gadgets and bling to a minimum since I will plan to keep this one long term - or at least until they bring over the turbodiesel. I am slowing installing my accessories and will be heading to the Yosemite area next weekend to get a bunch of things installed at Urban Offroad. My Cooper tires will be installed the following week. I have other big plans! :)

Here are a few photos:

Congrats on the purchase! Very nice looking truck!

Thanks, Nigel!

I went back and forth if I should buy out my lease or not, but in the end, glad I went with the packages I ordered. I struggled a lot with color, as I would love an army green color (sort of like Tom's Discovery), but the only green offered is the very dark Aintree green. I know white is fairly common among Land Rovers, but it resists the weather, and most importantly, doesn't show scratches that well. I like the contrast between the Fuji white and the black trim.

Keep us posted if your LR4 sells!!! Have you posted on Craigslist? I know I did and got a lot of crazies, but a few folks who were legitimately interested.

Regards, David

I never noticed that the LR4 has the rails in the front until now. Love it David cant wait to see it when you get back from Urban Offroad. It looks like somthing a storm trooper would drive.

Thanks, BEAR!

The short- and full-length roof rails have always been an option on the LR4 (silver or black), but never standard. Starting in 2013, the full-length black roof rails are now standard only when you get the black design package option. Otherwise, it's still an additional accessory. I will definitely take some photos next weekend once I get back from Yosemite. I am getting this roof rack (along with the OEM ladder):

I got these sill guards with steps. I thought about rock sliders a lot and almost went with the Tactical4x4 ones because they offer more underbody protection and, importantly, cover the air compressor unit. However, on the 2013 model you need to have them fit a bracket to lift the unit so the sliders can fit. They have done a great job for a friend of mine in Southern CA, but it's still kind of prototype. Instead, I am likely going to get the Asfir air tank guard and then have another friend of mine fabricate some sort of metal cover for the air compressor unit. Either way, I take it easy on the trails so it should be fine.

Here are the sill guards with 45/45 outriggers (they are powder coated black - the picture is just before that process):

until they bring over the turbodiesel.

Very nice David. Good choice expedition white, I heard rumors that the new LR (badged LR5) will be lighter (by 900 lbs) and perhaps w/a turbo diesel power plant in 2016. Have you heard also?

There are so many rumors it's crazy. There is talk of a TD (likely with hybrid) for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, but it's only speculation for the Discovery. Most of the reputable rumors are that in 2015/2016 they will go with the aluminum frame (like the new RR and RRS) and use the supercharged V6 engine that they are using for the 2014 RRS. I am on an LR4 forum and the rumors are flying! :-)

I opted to just go with the 2013 because I wanted the V8 engine, though the only thing that would sway me away is the TD!!!! :-) I just don't think they are going to bring over the TD anytime soon, unless it's some sort of hybrid. Shaving weight off will happen, but who knows if the Discovery will take on the bloated Evoque look that Land Rover seems to really like these days.

Love it! :-) Awesome photo.

Thanks, Griff.... Hey, my apologies, I actually just noticed your PM from a couple months ago and responded. Sorry for the delay, but better late than never.
