February MORG

Recommended Posts

OK home safe... FIRST SUCCESSFUL TRIP LONGER THAN 30 min SINCE I

BOUGHT IT!! Nothing broke, nothing leaked (abnormally), nothing shorted, burned, smoked, or otherwise was bad. Kept 60-65 the whole way, never got hot, sound and heat insulation worked amazingly, no hot right foot. Now to fine tune a few things and keep getting the miles in her before DV.

David I was there for the entire night buddy. There is a saying... "Better late then never".. I tend to go by that rule. But that's just me.

Here is how my day started. Off to MORG Feb 2013. Leave my house and get on the road. I see a Camel trophy nearing doing about 55 in the slow lane. I know exactly who I'm going to run into. Chris and his father. So we ride together in the slow lane... LOL. I don't mind.

We arrive at the ranger station with the crew waiting.

This was a good turn out of people. We meet the new members Tarique and his son with a black LR3, Allen with his silver D2, and a local to Holister Dean with his white D2. Sorry for spelling. On with the show. So we hit some new trails... YES NEW!!!

All but one of the three new members took to 5 fingers like a champ.

We left 5 fingers and head to our favorite hunting spot for pictures and laughs. Of course we find the Jeep thing that all of us don't understand we still don't understand.

If the first Jeep didn't make it maybe the next guy can help him get his fellow JEEPER friends out from this shame.....

So pretty much everyone left after this mess and I was here to lend a hand since I have all my tools. I only felt like I could help after doing some minor work with Chuck on his battery. I had my tools out and they guy with the broken drive shaft needed a hand since he was kinda nervous. I jumped into it with him and he drove out later. http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/ss353/PedramB33/Hollister%20Hills/IMG_20130202_151756_zps1e0d54e8.jpg

By this time everyone is gone and I'm out on my own. I run into a friend from the Toyota group with his newish 4Runner all pimped out. Sorry no more pictures after this. I was running low on battery life and I had no way to charge it. My life line is my phone and I'm preserving it.

I was going to head to some trails after but I had someone come up to me about tools once again and I had to lend a hand. Apparently a girl with a Toyota(newbie) drove her truck into a lake near Truck Hill and killed her motor. And I was thinking water near Truck Hill??? I thought about it for a while and only remember the only water near truck hill is one no one thinks about touching since it's really a bad idea. So I asked if it was the one on the left coming from the 2nd obstacle course to Truck hill. And it was.

I run through it all. I first ask why they did that.... No real good explanation. I told them to test a depth of any unknown mud or water hole should be tested with a stick on foot. Not your lead foot. We first pull the spark plugs and turn the motor over for water to evacuate out of the block. Then clean all the plugs and check everything. Cap and wires. Found the plugs were loose and wires were barley hanging on and this truck was really abused. More than my old one.

After finding mud in the ECU and some more loose connections and some cans of cleaner we got it running. It's getting dark and my LED's are being used to light the way. Again. I have my tools ready to pack it up and another guy asking for help.... Now I'm thinking this is the last one...

It's this truck from before. http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/ss353/PedramB33/Hollister%20Hills/IMG_20130202_134457_zpsefab7f70.jpghttp://i591.photobucket.com/albums/ss353/PedramB33/Hollister%20Hills/IMG_20130202_134507_zpsb1a35aa3.jpg

The Chevy. The owner, yes another girl, was doing something stupid from what I was told (donuts) and broke a front CV. It's dark I have my tools out and I just realized my wife might start wondering if I broke my truck again. So I text her that I'm okay and I will be home in a few hours. It's now 6 ish and I'm hungry. Get my torch and hot dogs and get some food in me. I am ready to leave. Been ready. But I can't since I have my bottle jack under the chevy and my tools out. And I'm the only source of light. Everyone left the park and I'm in it now. I'm going to chill and watch the truck get fixed. They get the shaft out and drive out.

We head out. I get to the gate and I run into a group of crazy drunk white people. I have no idea what they were doing but the girl had soaked her shirt in some kinda water and the drunk boy friend was talking like he was in a bar fight.... The driver had to come out and grab the two fools and get them back into the truck. This night was long and I'm done. Lets just say I was glad we have Shaver Lake with sane people next FRIDAY!!!

Yeah why aren't you going Antonio? Did I scare you out of it? I think you are going to miss out this year. We had fun in 2011. A shame my friend. I will miss you there. What were you doing this Saturday?

Looks like Pedram had quite a day! Great set of photos, btw.

Well finally made it to my first MORG! It was really great meeting you all. My son Suhail and I had a great time :) My 11 y.o. daughter was upset that I didn't take her along! Good reason to go to the next MORG I guess. It's been a long, long time since I've been to Hollister Hills. I've had the LR3 for a couple of years now, and this is the first time that I've really taken it off road. I was very surprised with it's capability, although, with the drive by wire and electronic features kicking in with the different terrain options, it takes some of the challenge out of navigating the terrain (and some getting used to). I guess it is doing exactly what it's supposed to. Have to say though, there's nothing like riding trails in comfort! I had been looking at adding a RRSS to the stable, for some on/off road fun, but maybe I'll look into something older that I can mod more. Hmm...we'll see. Looking forward to meeting you all again sometime soon. Thanks for making it such a great outing!

The day was a TOTAL success! Glad to meet all the new people, and no offense to all the great people and their wonderful rigs, but Chris' Camel Trophy 110 was the highlight of my day! I would have done 5 Fingers but my daughter was nervous about it, so I deffered. She'll get used to it all and nothing will stop us!

Pedram, those girls were driving like idiots all day, so I'm not surprised that 1. They got into trouble 2. The truck was a compelte POS 3. Drunken trailer trash activities.

Oh well!

I attached my camera to the front of my rack, and have some EPIC video, but they need uploading and editing.

Some pics and video:

I do a 63 jag MK2 3.8 that needs a tune up if anyone is interested in helping :) 4 speed w OD no less.

Mmmm, been a long while since I balanced triple SU HS8s .... I think I'd prefer to do more engine mounts on a D2 (and that is the worst job I've had to do on the D2).

Regards,

Graeme
