LandRonB
Had a blast last year - and like wise previous years. Here are random comments and pictures from our 2009 NCLR Rubicon trip: http://www.spotadventures.com/trip/view?trip_id=178167 And last year's 2011 trip: http://www.spotadventures.com/trip/view?trip_id=279012 Also last year, we avoided the Jeep and Jeepers Jamboree in July/August, but didn't realize Marlin Crawlers (Toyotas) were celebrating their 10th anniv same wknd we were on Rubicon Trail Sept 15-18th. As the result, it was traffic on the trail like Hwy 580 thru Livermore during commute hours (smile). Well not quite - I'll take traffic on any trail vs having to commute for work. To avoid the crowd on the trail, we are planning a Wed to Fri trip to the Rubicon this year. Meet @ the staging area (Loon Lake side) on Tuesday afternoon, camping that night (or meet up early Wednesday morning) and hit the start of the trail Wed morning and finish by Friday (on the Tahoe side). This trail is not for stock Land Rovers; however, with the help of experienced folks here who have been on the Rubicon and/or familiar with required mods, we welcome all club members to inquire and join this challenging yet rewarding famous Rubicon Trail - the Crown Jewel of Four Wheeling. We also need spotters (partner up w/drivers open seats). Who wants in? Quick Summary of the Trip: Trail is the world famous Rubicon: http://www.rubicon-trail.com/Rubicon/index.htmlTrail Rating: 10Lenght: 22 miles Trail Leader: OpenTrip Gunner/Planner: Me (RRC) Attendees pending to confirm (update as of 03/06):: Ron/RRC (confirmed), Nigel/D1 (confirmed), Colin/RRC (confirmed), Lutz/DII (TBD).... Anyone else? Looking for max qualified LR trucks 6-7. Dates: Sept 12-14 (Wed to Friday) (Optional camping Sept 11 Tuesday Night) Agenda/Itinerary: Meet at the Staging Area (Loon Lake side) on Wednesday morning 8am (or camping Tuesday night before). Early Wednesday morning "Ru-Beacon" (catchy - lol) breakfast aka beacon and eggs as time permit. Go thru the Gatekeeper (what's left of it today), play around @ Granite Bowl, thru Wentworth Springs, Little Sluice. Depending on far we get that day, we may camp near Spider Lake or Buck Island Lake. Thursday Sept 13 - wrap up Big Sluice, drive on the Rubicon Bridge (poser kodak momemt -lol), and camp @ Rubicon Springs. Big dinner planned; hopefully we can have a cook-out, enjoy the water, and some high altitude steak fajitas. Friday Sept 14 - want to be in the position early Sunday morning to get everyone thru Cadillac Hill (one of the most diff part of the trail). Want to be in the Staging Area on the Hwy 89/Tahoma side by lunch time, to air-up, have lunch, and prepare for our return home. Refuiling in the Lake Tahoe area or I80. Quick List of vehicle mod req (and given your vehicle is in mechanical tip-top shape): 1) Solid recovery points both front and back, 2) Enough lift to run 33s/aggressive tires, 3) Sliders and Diff Guards, 4) And atleast 1 rear locker is req but having rear and front lockers will make it less harder on your vehicle. If you are running lockers, should upgrade to HD axles otherwise carry spares. 5) Upgrade rear trailer arms (D90s/D1/RRC) if applicable 6) HD front bumper (want something solid that can take a beating, and don't go bumper less and make your radiator take the beating) 7) Winch. We maybe able to do away w/non-winch bumper as long as we have equal non-winch and winch vehicle. Need recovery strap for sure. 8) CB; Ham operator a plus. 9) 1 spare fuel can w/fuel (re-fueling is avail before your turn-off to the Ice House Rd on Thursday, and re-fueling station on Lake Tahoe side on the return trip but bring one spare just in case) Other rules: - No drinking alcohol and driving on the trail (save it for camp/when keys put away), need to read and abide by Rubicon Trail ordances: http://www.rubicon-trail.com/50-ft-trail-easement.html - Pack it in/pack it out (Wag Bags a must, and BYOB - bring your own bucket - he! he!) Other Considerations: - keep your CG as low as possible - I dont' recommend an RTT setup on the trail - tent it or tent cot. - Will be a lot of rock stacking, hiking, altitude above 5000 ft..., physical work demanding. - Let me know if you have any special health conditions. We have GPS coords for the trail, more details to follow.... if any interested post or PM me; this will be a fun trip! Also planning to have a vehicle wrenching day schedules perhaps this summer in prep for this Sept trip, and shake-down/test your mods the weekend (Aug MORG) @ Hollister SVRA. LandRonB
You got it. Dusy - are you going w/Nathan? Have fun. I had enough of the Dusy for now. Might go back this summer and camp @ the first campground we stayed on our last trip to the Dusy; I think it was Voyager Camp (?).

astateofmike
I am at the point where I would like to go, but have other commitments for my time off and don't want to overload the requests in this economy. Wish it was not a mid week trip. Will keep an eye out.
LandRonB
Hope you can make it Mike. Main reason for the mid-week trip is to avoid as much traffic (well Rubicon trail traffic) as poss on the trail; Friday to Sunday seems to be the worse time to go. C yah. What other Wed-Fri in Sept works for you? Let's see and check with the others. Hope you can make it Nigel. Cheers!

astateofmike
I mean the BIG ones, in both the classic Series Round or the Special Vehicles Shield. You have seen them, they are like 8" across, huge. Carlos has some and it is time they get sold and onto trailers/doors/fridges/skidplates/windows. You may see them out at our Sponsors or on the back a parts truck on the road....get yours! Cost: $5 each. If you want to pick them up. $5.50 and I can send them USPS. We will take checks, cash (before shipping) and then maybe I can figure out a way to do Paypal. I am helping Carlos find new homes for these stickers and will help get them out. Can you help find a place to display them?

Guest Pedram
Maybe you can send some my way as well. Can you display pictures of them maybe mounted on a truck so we have an idea what they look like? I might have one at home but soon I will put them all over my Rover. I have some places to put more.
