NCLR Club donation

Recommended Posts

Greetings all,

Your board of directors have concluded their latest meeting with a question for the group. After all our bills are paid, we have a cash reserve of a few dollars that we think should go to a deserving organization. We believe it should be some how connected to our love of Land Rovers, off road activities or local community. We need your help.

List up here the organization you think best deserves to benefit from our groups donation. After a few weeks, we will create a poll with the top possible candidates and the winner of that poll will receive the yet to be determined amount.

Invite everyone you know to add their suggestions too. We appreciate your participation.

Oh!! How about "Avon Walk for the Cure," for breast cancer. I plan on doing the walk early July 2012. Each participant needs to raise a minimum of $1300 (I think). I think we should have whoever from our club, walk this with me! It's in San Francisco. The URL is http://www.Avonwalk.org. I would love to do Susan G Komen 3-Day walk, but I may not be here. Who's down?! SAVE THE TA-TAS!

I've always wanted to see NCLR members get "free" admission to HH. By "free", I mean through an annual Club donation to the park. Members would be provided with a card, and need to show it at the entrance.

My hubby's power soccer team in San Jose is always needing help. I organize a fundraiser BBQ (Blue Rock BBQ-yum!) every spring, and I raise just enough to send 2 team members to the Power Soccer Nationals. My hubby is the only one on the team who has a job, but the rest of the kids are so severely disabled, they live on state aid (though one is a college student- Paul is mentoring him, hoping he can have a successful career in the valley, too). It costs approximately 2k to send one player to Nationals, mostly due to the fact that they need to bring a parent or their attendant with. Also, flying with a wheelchair means you travel all day and need recovery time, so their hotel stay is at least 4-5 days, instead of just the two for the tournament.

Here is their website, though it's pretty sparse. http://steamrollers.uspsateams.org/

I know if we donated even a small amount, they would all put our stickers on their chairs :)

So it looks like this thread hit a dead end. During our last board meeting it was thought to be too large a decision for the board to take on alone. Since opening this up to the group, we had only 7 replies (many repeats of the boards suggestions). I am going to close this thread in 1 week and create a poll for members to vote on. This is your chance to have a say in how we run the club.

If you know of a worthy group that you feel the NCLR Club should donate our excess cash to and make a difference? Make your suggestions soon.

All seem to be good suggestions. One other I would add would be a donation to Going Overland (http://www.goingoverland.com/) to support their trip.

I've also wondered if there opportunities to expose youth to the outdoors...those that wouldn't normally get a chance to go camping, etc...or support organizations that do provide opportunities.

I ditto re: Going Overland. They actually stopped by @ Mexxis, and shared their stories to a few NCLR members last year before embarking to S. America.

Kevin, have you checked lately their whereabouts? Africa next I think!

Would like to see NCLR provide Paul and his wife some funding if we have excess.

Cheers!

Here's the poll for our club donations. The BOD allotted $500.00 of our excess funds to be donated to a group of the members choosing. I have made a poll of the suggestions that were complete and thoughtful enough to include web links.

Here's how it will work out. The top 3 finishers will each receive $150.00 in donations, The 4th place finisher will get $50.00.

I will leave this poll open for 2 weeks. You may make more than one selection.

HH already gets our money thru MORGs and annual gathering when we pay by paying our day visits and reserving Area 5.

My vote goes to Going Overland.

Here's a blog March 15, 2011 when we invited Paul and his wife from Going Overland to join us for dinner @ Mexxis: http://www.goingoverland.com/tag/mexican/

They are now in Peru according to their FB page. They also just posted some info on how to get donations to them.
