Gauging Interest: 4th Annual Shaver Lake Snow Run Feb. 18-20, 2011

Recommended Posts

Yes it's time to start thinking about 2011 already. Next year will mark the 4th year of the Shaver Lake Snow Run. Ron has asked for someone to take over this trip and I have decided it's high time I lead one. I have attended this trip for the past two years and have a good grasp of what to expect for this run. Colin (ColinB, or Ciwhamc on LRRForums) has also offered to help coordinate planning and trail lead. I would like to open this trip up to our friends in SoCal, so I'm not sure if this run will be an "official" NCLR trip.

4th Annual NCLR Shaver Lake - Bald Mountain Snow Run Feb 18-20, 2011

Ok, this is the gauging interest thread for our upcoming 4th Annual Shaver Lake - Bald Mountain Snow Run February 18-20, 2011. If you are attending please be familiar with all of the information contained below. We want to have a fun and safe trip while being prepared as possible. If you are attending this trip, please post your answers to the following questions. I will PM my cell to everyone before the trip, and will need yours as well.

1. Your name (and any guests)?

2. Vehicle and recovery gear you are taking (include if you’re equipped with/without a winch)?

3. Emergency contact info?

4. Your eta arrival to Camp Edison (if you’re 2-3 hrs after your ETA, we can call emergency contact)?

5. Are you tent camping or staying in a cabin/hotel room?

6. Interested in Saturday pot luck dinner? What do you want to bring?

7. Any other questions?

Trip Details:

Trip Leader: Brenton Corns (Disco2Guy)

Trail Leader: Brenton Corns (Disco2Guy), Colin Brown (ColinB, Ciwhamc)

Location: Shaver Lake, CA.

Date/Time: February 18-20, 2011 (Fri-Sun)

Description:

Shaver Lake is located at the 5,500 ft. elevation, one hour northeast of Fresno in central California. The area is known for abundant outdoor activities: snow skiing, snowmobiling, water skiing, fishing, and backpacking, horseback riding, 4-wheeling and camping.

Camp Edison has heated bathrooms with shower facilities (tokens can be purchased with quarters on the way in), and electrical outlets for each campsite. The breakers can trip easily, so please talk to your camp mates about any heaters or equipment with high power needs you may be using.

Each campsite can hold four trucks, or two with trailers. One person per site needs to make the reservation in their name, pay the deposit ($50) and site fee. Other people who stay at the site can pay their share of the site fee, and the person who made the reservation will get their deposit back after the trip. I’ll ask for site #237 (same we’ve used in the past) and the next three people going can put their names in the available slots. When it’s full the next person reserves a site (#236, #233, #239) and continues until everyone has a space.

If you are not interested in snow camping there are rooms and cabins available at the Shaver Lake Village Hotel.

Thanks for the interest so far everyone! I've updated the original post with the names of people who have replied and are interested in the trip. Towards the end of December I'll move this thread and make it for official signup, and we can start adding names to the campsite list. After Thanksgiving I'll be sending in the request for the first reservation of site #237.

Depending on snow conditions we may not even get to bald mountain trail. Last year I did not make it to the trail head. I got stuck quite a bit. If we do I am sure there will be a seat open. I will have one open but there may be someone with a open shotgun. In heavy rovers the snow is enough of a challenge.

At last! I can finally post again! Thanks, Gary and Brenton!

Yes, the Rover Gods willing, of course I'll be attending. Come hell or high water I haven't missed one yet and I sure don't plan to miss this one.

If you are attending this trip, please post your answers to the following questions. I will PM my cell to everyone before the trip, and will need yours as well. This is exactly why I created the Members Contact List thread in the Members Only forum. All needed contact info is already in there:

http://nclrclub.org/forum/showthread.php?959-NCLR-Members-Contact-List

1. Your name (and any guests)? Dan Harris. Possibly one guest, uncertain at this time.

2. Vehicle and recovery gear you are taking (include if you're equipped with/without a winch)? 1991 RRC w/winch and some basic recovery gear.

3. Emergency contact info? Will be made available at the appropriate time by private means.

4. Your eta arrival to Camp Edison (if you're 2-3 hrs after your ETA, we can call emergency contact)? At this time, my ETA is planned for Friday mid-afternoon but will be made firm as the date gets closer and I know what I'm up against (I.E. dropping in a new engine or something at the last minute!)

5. Are you tent camping or staying in a cabin/hotel room? I'll be bringing my camp trailer, which is so light that I can wheel it by hand onto packed snow and therefore not take up any valuable asphalt real estate better used for parking Land Rovers.:D

6. Interested in Saturday pot luck dinner? What do you want to bring? Yes, and I'll bring a marinated Tri-tip for grilling.

7. Any other questions? Nope...not yet!

1. Stephen and one guest.

2. You know the truck.

3. Della Neighbors(mother) 408-426-6033

4. I'd like to do the usual caravan. I didn't read the whole thread, I'm supposed to be doing homework.

7. None.

*edit* No first responder trips, so I'm definitely in!!!

Brenton,

Add a 60% certainty for myself, Lucas, and Ann. Ann freezes and is miserable in the cold, so that worries me (I didn't dare mention cabins!).

This place has outlets, you can plug in heaters.

Brenton. Site 233 shows up as a group site but I don't remember it being one. Should I just try and make the reservation anyway and see what happens?

Yeah, it may have been mostly covered with snow. I'm getting ready to send off the reservation request for #237 Monday or Tuesday.

Hey Guys,

When do we have to reserve a site or is someone reserving all the sites and we pick one.

Josh the reservation works like this. One person can only reserve one site under the same name. I'm going to send in my request and credit card info to reserve site #237. That site will hold 4 trucks w/out trailers. I'll be in slot 1, esteban is in slot 2, and I'll hold #3 for Sasquatch (unless he does the cabin). So you can jump in the 4th spot, or take the next campsite and reserve #236 on your own and let three other people sign up for a slot. Full details can be found from the Camp Edison Reservation Guidelines link in the first post.
