I think the trip to the Mojave in May is going to be rescheduled (if I am reading Brenton's post re: lack of interest).

If the trip to the Mojave is still on, we can still do this (drive is short enough from the Bay Area) on alt weekend in May so doesn't conflict with the Mojave trip.

With that said, wanted to know if anyone would be interested in a wknd trip to Pismo Beach, CA in May (date to be determined)

Might not want a repeat (lol) of the Flying Land Rovers in 2006 (due to broken motor motors, etc..) or may be you do (scared?); Certainly beach camping, camp fire, cook-off, and wheeling in the sand are in order. And maybe even do some surf casting.

Like to also try the setup of Maxtrax https://www.maxtrax.com.au on the sand; used them during the Shaver Lake Snow Run this year and proved to be useful.

Be great to line up the Chef or wanna be Chef like me to do a cook-off!

Certainly, my portable fridge can keep fresh meat/fish frozen till we do the cook-off on Saturday.

You might see a Flying Camel (Oscar's vid):

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OdYIrie4uk&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OdYIrie4uk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Or see a flying LR3 for that same thrilling reason (Oscar's vid):

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgdSwv31eL8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgdSwv31eL8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Don't be scared; let's do it; post if you are interested, what wknd in May would be good, how many people are you thinking of bringing and would you be intersted in a cook off either being a cook or doing the eating (lol).

Like to get a beverage, food/restaurant sponsor and if succesful this - we can make it do again next year or make it an annual event similar to the Annual Shaver Lake Snow Run seems to be a popular annual event now.

Ok, I just went to the Reserve America site and booked 2 days stay May 21-23 @ Pismo Oceano Dunes; I suggest you do the same:

http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/Oceano_Dunes_Svra/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=CA&parkId=120065&topTabIndex=CampingSpot

$10 per day x 2 + 8 reservation fee; my confirm # is "2-11309205"

I will put together a trip sheet shortly; so far we have the following:

- Will

- Antonio

- Collin

- Jantiz - depending on work scheduile

- Robb

- Enrique aka Discochef

- Lutz

Anyone else?

Important info re: "Oceano Dunes SVRA":

- the campsites are on the beach in the OHV area.

- Four wheel drive vehicles are recommended.

- Each vehicle entering the park under it's own power must have an individual reservation number. Vehicles on trailers do not need a reservation.

- Due to the popularity and nature of this park, there is no space available for parking additional cars.

- Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle per reservation. Four wheel drive vehicles are recommended.

- Vehicles on trailers do not need a reservation.

- Reservations available Year Round through ReserveAmerica.

- Reservations can be made up to 2 days prior to any arrival date.

- No overnight extra vehicle parking available outside of Oceano campground.

- Due to tide and beach conditions, check-in is as tides allow on your arrival date. CHECK-OUT TIME IS 6:00 P.M.

Let the planning begin! Who wants to have a cook off?

Perhaps we can get 2-3 folks who wants to show off their cooking skills.

Perhaps interested "folks" who wants to sample the food and cast their vote can ea chip in e.g $10-20 (tell us if this makes sense Enrique and other chefs) for the ingridient cost. Ea participating Chef div up the funds. We can have a themed food e.g. Paella. Let me know what you guys think of the idea?

General Agenda:

Friday Check-in

BYO Dinner

Bring firewood

Saturday

BYO B-Fast

Wheeling on the Sand (or optional inland wheeling "Garcia Ridge" lead by Lutz)

BYO Lunch

Wheeling on the Sand

Chef Dinner Cook Off (TBD)

Sunday

BYO B-fast

Lunch/Check-out

Saturday BYO breakfast

Ok, looks like I'll be off that day barring last minute emergencies. Reservations made for 21-23. I'm bringing a friend with me from work who recently bought a P38, but we're planning to have him drive one of our Militray Hummers to scout the place and plan on how we can use the park to offer deep sand driving classes later on to the rest of our soldiers.

It looks like all the stars are aligning just right where I and the whole family can attend this outing. Just paid for my reservation for the 2 nights. Looking forward to hanging out for a weekend. Susan has also volunteered to pitch in with the cooking duties. I guess all we need now is a list of what to bring and how much. Definitely bringing the HD camera on this trip.

That would be sweet, Lutz. Brake modulation is an acquired skill when driving the Mil spec hummer. The guys will be more than happy to see another Hummer with an experienced driver to tour the park with!

First step - who can be there early Friday (noon or after) to pick a spot for our large group? A good spot I remember was up the dunes where we camped last, and near the restrooms.

I won't be checking in till later afternoon (after work) reason I am asking if someone can pick the spot for our group. Be great to have our spot picked out before night fall.

Reminders:

Did you all make your reservation? Pls do so otherwise you can get ticketed w/o a reservation on the Dunes.

Also familiarize yourself to Oceano Dunes (Pismo) OHV rules: http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1215 absolutely no drinking and driving. If you do, going ask you to leave and if any resistance, not afraid to call Park Law Enforcements.

I am not saying a "dry" trip (I enjoy a cold beer as much as the next guy to me); let's do the alcohol drinking when our vehicles are parked, keys put away, and settled in camp.

Besides, this is NCLR sanctioned trip and drinking and driving is not condonned club rules.

And speaking of rules, this was just approved Jan this year "The regulation now requires a whip and flag for all vehicles in the dunes". In past, it was optional now it's required: http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=25980

Now that I got the rules out, and important that we all understand them, let's continue the planning, and let's have fun! :beerchug:
