Gauging Interest: NCLR Return to Ellis Peak

Recommended Posts

Howdie Folks,

One of my new favorite trips to plan: Ellis Peak.

Last year's October recce to Ellis Peak and sneak peak of the Rubicon Trail (easy part) seems to be a success.

Time to take the details and experience from that recce trip into an actual NCLR run this year. :)

Camping Friday and Saturday nite (or cabin/hotel options in the S. Lake Tahoe area); Expect October to be cold so certainly cabin/hotel is ideal if you or your family members don't want to deal with the cold weather camping.

Ellis Peak trail run on Saturday a.m., and optional sneak peak of Rubicon again (this time go further) in the p.m. and camping on the Rubicon trail. Folks who don't want to run the Rubicon in the afternoon Sat can head back home or their hotel/cabins. Folks staying need to plan for camping and expect delays on the Rubicon Trail. Return home Sunday.

I will be driving the classic; Ellis Peak is considered easy to med difficult depending on the amount of rain/snow we have to deal in October, but the optional sneak peak of Rubicon will be extreme. Need sliders and skid plates.

With this said, I am looking at mid to late October. Our Annual NCLR event is on Oct 2nd-4th.

Here's last year's recce trip report; read the vehicle req and trip details: http://nclrclub.org/forum/showthread.php?t=494

Let's have fun!

Mike's D1 climbing the top of Ellis Peak (which we don't recommend after the experience - very steep and potential roll-over)

And sneak peak of the Rubicon

Expect damage or damages.

Ideal size 6 but limiting group size to 8 trucks.

Post your questions and if you are interested, let me know. After which, I will submit the trip request and post the official trip details/sheet once I get enough interest.

Cheers!

I'd like to go. I need a confirmed date so I can run it by work......

Good to hear Steve; from snow wheeling this past wknd to Rock Crawling! Cool! Will put your name on the interest list; will come up with the dates soon!

I think 2 weeks after the Event would be perfect. That would make it mid October which seems just right.

Sounds good to me! Oct 17-18th wknd. Gives us time to recover from the Annual Event!

We're in! Only if you keep PETA from driving on more squirrel heads

Alright we have the Gentleman's Jack Crew, and enough interest to justify a trip request; shooting for the wknd of Oct 17-18; so far:

- Ron

- Gary

- Mike

- Dave

- Steve

I am going to work on the trip request and sheet soon; let me know who'd be interested in camping, and hotel/cabin all wknd or part.

Twice I've checked out Ellis Peak, I'd stayed at our timeshare in S. Lake Tahoe (too cold for my wife and kids). Might do Friday night stay in the timeshare. And perhaps camping on the trail Saturday; head home Sunday.

Ok, more details to come. Anyone else interested...

Cheers!
